What is a donation?
It’s a gift, grant or contribution made to a person, organisation or country for charitable purposes. I have been prompted to clear the air on the misuse of this word by the people of Zambia especially the government.
People donate for various reasons, to help the less privileged, as a way of sharing with others or as a gesture to show some appreciation for a good deed. In all these circumstances the people that donate use their own resources. If one uses part of his or her own income to get what they intend to donate then that justifies the word donation. I have lived in the western world for years I have never heard of people in ministerial positions or there relations making donations publicly.
I am tired of hearing about government officials making donations publicly. This is not what one would call a donation unless I am missing something. How does one donate to the public using public funds?
These articles on donations should state clearly where the money comes from. Someone going to donate using a government vehicle, filled with fuel bought with money from the government account and the item being donated was bought using public funds, honestly can one call that a donation? The answer is NO, it is actually giving back to the people of Zambia. But the people making these fake donations are either too clever to make people see them as angels or too dumb to realise that what they are doing is wrong.
It is also taking advantage of the Zambian people who are in so much need that every time these people tell them they are donating all they want is to receive. They will praise these people and keep hoping for more fake donations. Lets live by the truth and share with Zambian people what belongs to them. I can’t wait for a government that will live as per its manifesto. A concrete one that will not derail citizens minds with its lies and fake hopes.

Its nothing but criminal behaviour. Only in Zambia can government officials use taxpayers money to dish out gifts to their constituents and call it a donation.
When an opposition member donates using his own resources during an election the PF government cries foul. But when it is them donating then they are performing the duties of government. PF is full of double standard.
Absolutely right. How does one donate what they don’t have? Manipulation at it’s best.
Good question!
This is what i was question yesterday “section something amburance donated by hon Kambwili from CDF funds” My foot these guys want to make capital from everything due to igonarace of people.
Chib what in the world is amburance…is it a sea creature or something but how ironic that would be for kambwili to donate amburance when we are land locked…
Those doctors, bena mwenechanya should be in hospital. what are they doing there while UTH is crying that it has no doctors and yet you have such doctors being used as sniff dogs
This all because of poor jounarlism.
Spot on. Our journalists are just, I don’t know.
Thats how they call it in Zambia. Donation means GRZ officials using GRZ money to donate blankets bought with GRZ money. Zambia the real Africa.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
time for them pay is coming 2016 is not very far
PF cadres all over Lusaka cbd. Ati Kabimba must go.
Short and precise article, which gets straight to the point unlike some densely written ones which take forever to understand. The author has a valid point which is worth reflecting upon.
Walasa!
From the pictures, the MP is donating cheap looking blankets while the First Lady is donating mealie meal and cooking oil. These are small items which i feel both the MP and First lady can afford from their own pockets. The writer has clearly failed to give us examples of the so called GOVERNMENT DONATIONS to substantiate his claim. Next Please!!!
If you are not stupid then you lack understanding .
‘ Government donation to its Citizens is like a father donating bread for breakfast to his children’ this can only be resolved if all who donate pay some form of tax which they can claim later. Through tax, information of donors can be collected and advance payment to strength government funds could be available and refunded later.
Did Kaseba use her personal transport to go where ever she went to “donate” mealie meal. What about the K1.5b Parliament illegally allocated to her office? Is this not GRZ money which in turn is public money and not Kaseba’s personal money. This is what Chalabesa is talking about.
Even the slash funds were called donations. Money which was meant to go to government ministries was put in Zamtroop Account and used as donations by the president. No one seems to care in Zambia, everything goes.
It is actually theft to use gorverment funds to make donation. A donation should from own pocket and it’s tax deductible . Chiluba started this theft and PF are continuing with this punishable offence
The media must stand up and refuse to misuse words to please the ruling class and continue to misinform our people.
Sure, but it’s misuse of the word “promise” that is even more alarming.
they are just returning to the rightful owners..stop misusing the word..
Am just told by Winter that Sata is very generous, he has even donated more money in civil servants pockets from the euro bond.
