TP Mazembe coach Patrice Carteron has hailed the character of Zambian players at the DR Congo side.
Carteron said he values the mentality of the Zambian players.
The Frenchman took over Mazembe in July after resigning as Mali coach.
Carteron singled out defender Stopilla Sunzu and midfielder Rainford Kalaba as best performers at the Lubumbashi side.
“Sunzu Stopilla is the best African defender, he has everything,” Carteron told BBC.
“And Rainford Kalaba reminds me of French footballer Eric Carriere, who was maybe one of the best French players. Rainford is clever, intelligent; everything he does is pure, beautiful football.
“I appreciate the mentality of the Zambian players. Most of them have great spirit.”
And Carteron expects some of TP Mazembe’s top players to leave for European clubs after the Confederation Cup.
“Most of the players have been here for a lot of years now and I’m sure some of them might leave to go to Europe, maybe after the Confederations Cup,” said Carteron.
Mazembe are in the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup where they will face Stade Malien, of Mali, in October.

sunzu is indeed a great player. even in ghana ghanians were praising him that he gave hell to their galaxy of star strikers. but why does he fail to make it to europe

Zambians are not appreciated in their own country but everywhere they are, have been or are they earn a lot of respect. Teachers in Botswana, engineers in South Africa and Europe etc

Do you know how many footbla players around the world with language deficiency and have made it as great soccer players….? Research bwana….you will find out. English is not a barrier in case of Sunzu, he’s just not lucky enough to have a good and aggressive FIFA agent to market him abroad. As for RK we all know what he’s made of….one day I hope, things will happen for these boys. For me, they are an excellent talent to see it go to waste.
Sinkala as well coach, the boy is tough and has the endurance, we need to get rid of Herve and get a better coach who has a better understanding of football. The Mali coach now with TP has showed just that and I wouldnt mind having him pa Zed…

They fail in Europe because they fear whitemen like ghosts. Nice that we’ll play Brazil in china, it’s a way of getting then ‘acclimatized’ to bazungu type. Kalu is a genius.
