Renard guides Sochaux to Ligue Cup last 8

Share

Herve Renard on Wednesday sent Sochaux to the last 8 round of the French Ligue Cup.

Sochaux beat 2011/2012 French Ligue 1 champions Montpellier 3-2 after extra time to book their place in the last eight.

Sochaux took the lead in the Sanjin Prcic in the 38th minute before Jonas Martin equalised for Montpellier in the 50th minute to force the match into extra time.

However, Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka remained sidelined for the Cup tie due to injury.

Meanwhile, struggling second from bottom Sochaux have a big Ligue 1 date at home on Saturday when they face legendary French 10-time French champions Saint Etienne who are currently seven on the log.

“ I hope this qualification will give us some confidence,” the ex-Zambia coach told L’Equipe.

“ We’ll have to recover well and analyze this game to bring the best possible out of the team against Saint-Etienne in the league.”

  1. because of renard, we are now reading and knowing sochaux.
good luck to him though he and his team are no factors to zambia,
or is it because of mayuka?

  2. Sochaux poor run of results continues in Ligue 1 and Renard will be jobless come Christmas. He will remember the days in Zambia, that he would get six draws from six fixtures in a 12 months calendar year without being poked into his nose because he was well cushioned by FAZ. In his homeland, he has no luxury to get draws or let alone loose before the club will be relegated from Ligue 1 as expected. But to save the brand of Sochaux, he will be asked to leave before winter break and mark my words.

    • Yes’ it does, and you forever remember them. For that one particular moment in time; the entire planet stopped and said, “Zambia”. We were united, proud and free.

I do not think it is over, do you?
Zambian football and Renard I presume.

    • @ Kampopo,
I know :-), i doubt its over never say never, we cant tell the future besides a football coach’s life span is longer than a players, so i can say our paths may one day cross again.

    • ba jayjay naimwe!
So we shud follow useles english premier league with nothing to show internationaly. Come brazil 2014, the perennial escortee england ll fool the like of jayjay into believing they ll win the world cup, when the games start they ll tell the whole world they cant win coz paul gascogni is injured…my foot the guy stopped playing centuries ago.

Common jayjay put aside yo petty hatred for HR, only 1 or 2 coaches in the EPL can match him.

  3. Just amazing how many people continue to write ‘loose’ when they mean ‘lose’ like Collins above. I ‘m not trying to be a grammar or spelling cop but this gets very annoying that people cannot make a distinction between these simple words.

  4. Renard and the usual draws, the man has kept the draw syndrome even at Sochaux. He can’t win out rightly other than force a draw or lose. That’s your home let’s see if you can do it in your country.

  5. I hate to nit-pick but in the context you have used your sentence Mr. IP Router ‘loss’ would have been more appropriate and not ‘lose’. Chizungu nichovuta maningi!

  6. DCT, are you the only Jew i Jerusalem who doesn’t know that Mayuka is playing for Sochaux? Southampton released him on loan to the French side and destiny has it that HR was hired to revive a club that is struggling in the French league. Mayuka stands to benefit provided he (HR) manages to rescue a sinking ship. I wish ’em both success.

  7. Herve renard did his part when he guided chipolopolo to win the afcon trophy, for the first time in zambia `s football history that is an achievment that cannot be easily be brushed away.

  8. Renard has learnt a lot in Zambia and is generally expected to do well in France. It is good for him and also for Zambia in a way – he could have wonderful links for our players during the next window opener

  9. Ba Chitalu if you are related to the late coach, Ucar Chitalu I must confess merely reading this name brings goose bumps on my skin. I watched Ucar in action a few times and quite frankly he is one of the best footballers to have come out of Zambia. To this day Africans who watched him who are now living in the diaspora still remark about how incredible his dribbling skills were. That Gabonese disaster still stings to this day because the cream of Zambian players died at such tender ages. Ucar and Alex (computer) knew which players to select and they will be remembered as heroes. Personally I do not shed tears for strangers but when those players perished I cried like a baby. And away we go: Chabala, Changwe, Soko, Watyakeni, Yellowman, Derby Makinka, Chikwalakwala, Wiz, & Mwiitwa.

    • iwe eiwe waisshiba ukulanda ifya mano not ba jayjay, same old story about HR the best coach in the world. England has never produced a coach as good as renard.

  10. good for you renard show them you can do it, it was not by chance to have won africa cup with might zambia, all the best my man.

  11. George Bush I like yr analysis of the English national team. They only play their game in the press: the sun, mirror etc. There is so much propaganda about their national team and they are under the illusion that just because they exported soccer to their colonies they should be the best. Ala you made me laugh regarding your comment about the excuse over Gascoine! I lived in England for 4 yrs and your words are spot on. I just hate people who worship the EPL (brainwashed kind of) when we have our own teams like Power Dynamos, Kabwe Warriors etc that we should support. We have too many armchair critics (those who cannot provide alternatives) who hated Renard and yet have never attended a local game. What Renard did is commendable and let us thank him for enabling us achieve glory.
