An elderly man of Chief Chinyaku’s area of Chipata District has died after issuing disparaging remarks against the Head of State.
Engine Ngoma of Lufu village died last Thursday after hanging himself on a mango tree for alleged insulting the President.
Makangila Ward Councilor Daniel Mwanza confirmed the death yesterday and said the deceased was found hanging in his field.
Mr Mwanza said upon being searched, he was found with a letter in which he indicated that he decided to terminate his life following the insults on the Head of State.
The councilor said the body of the decease had since been buried.
“This man was insulting the President and he decided to commit suicide,”he said.
When reached for a comment Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila said she had not yet received the report on the matter but Mr Mwanza said it was the police who picked up the body.
Wonders shall never cease to happen. Surely was it necessary. You insult somebody who didnt even hear you insulting him and then you take your life. Or was it just foul play here?
There will be more and more deaths, just like in the days of Nebuchadnezzar, many people decided to terminate their lives. So many ghosts will haunt Sata and Kabimba.

These are matters that need further investigations than making simple conclusion from a simple letter found with the deceased. The man could have been killed then hanged.

The bottom line is that noone should insult the head of state. The president is the symbol of nationhood. A democratically elected leader must be given due respect. But the action taken by Engine Ngoma to terminate his life after insulting the president is inhuman. If his reason for killing himself was to escape the law, he hasn’t solved anything.
He has done well such names deserve such deaths due malfunction of pistons in his head.

Strange things happen. It would not be surprising if futher investigations revealed that the man had financial, health or family-related issues.

The story is not complete and leaves a lot of question marks. What insulting words did the man utter? What some people may take as insults may not be as such in real sense. How can one be covinced that the deceased commited suicide just because he was ‘found’ hanging. He could have been attacked and hanged by some assailants.
In cases like this you need investigative reporters who establish some truth based on what they have been able to gather. When you are not sure of what exactly happened you should have said a man has allegedly commited suicide after allegedly insulting the president. The word allegedly makes a big difference.
