Zambia set for Burundi reunion at Cecafa

Share

Zambia has booked a second 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup date with Burundi.

The two sides will meet again in a space of one week when they clash in Sunday’s quarterfinals in Mombasa at the ongoing tournament in Kenya.

Burundi booked their quarterfinal date after finishing as one of the best two third placed sides in the 12 team, three group competition.

Burundi beat Rwanda as the best runner-up to draw Zambia in the last eight.

Meanwhile, Zambia beat Burundi 1-0 in the two sides first meeting in last Sunday’s penultimate Group B game in Nakuru thanks to a 65th minute goal from Festus Mbewe.

A win on Sunday will see Zambia advance to the Cecafa Cup semifinal for the first time since 2006 under ex-coach Patrick Phiri on their way to winning the title.

  1. What a surprise result, Burundi beating Rwanda? Zambia must be careful because both teams use Congolese-born stars and pay them more to play for these two little teams. Do not underrate ’em.

  2. What a sorry place to hold this championship.Kenya has awful pitches,no proper stadiums and no football skills or tradition.Just leave this very tribalist country to do what it does best …..athletics

  3. What a bad place to hold this tourney.Kenya has awful pitches, antique stadiums,no soccer skills and no soccer tradition.Just leave them to their athletics.

    • Kanshi what quarrel do you have with the Kenyans? They have always been Zambia’s warmweather friends but it looks like you are intent on splitting us

    • @Enka, your comments are misplaced. Kenyans are actually nice people generally. If they are tribalists as you put it, that is non of you business. At least they were brave enough to host the tournament despite the pitches. May the best man win.

      Solola Bye!

  4. Iwe Umwina Zed @3.1 …..i’m not sure you know what “warm weather friends” are. You’re saying kenyans are opportunists? If so then i see no harm in splitting ourselves.

  5. Why do you love to despise other people? Please stop the fulishiness. This is unZambian. If you don’t have anything positive to contribute go do cleaning up of … the best job you know how.

  6. very few People from here resident over seas do junk jobs. That is why they can not invest here, back home. when you write just enter what is postive. Europe will not employ you at the expense of their Citzens. so leaning up is the job for most of you. Chipolopolo do not underate the Burundies.. just hammer them, play like you are meeting Nigeria.

  7. Chipolopolo should not underrate Burundu after beating them in the first meeting , they have beaten us before and they will want to prove it.
