The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has commended President Michael Sata for heeding to calls to fire Labour deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela and his Agriculture counterpart Rogers Mwewa for their allegedly fraudulent involvement in the purchase of secondhand ambulances for their constituencies using constituency development funds.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza told Qfm News that this is the kind of political will and action is needed if the country is to meaningfully fight corruption and abuse of authority.

Mr. Mwanza also recommended the need to enact legislation that will guarantee the absolute independence and autonomy of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Judiciary to effectively enhance the fight against corruption.

He added that there is also need to enact legislation that will give the Auditor General’s Report the force of law to bind the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to act on the Reports without delay.

Mr. Mwanza stressed that the FDD is concerned that little or no action is taken to bring the culprits named in the Auditor General’s Report to account.

The FDD Spokesperson has further called for increased budgetary allocation to the office of the Auditor General for training, capacity building and decentralization of its operations.

Mr. Mwanza has also urged Zambians to make the fight against corruption their personal fight and not leave it to government alone.

  1. Much as i applaud the president for this move, his fight against corruption still leaves much to desire. This is selective,so if the big fish like GBM and Kibimba are accused of corruption, they go scot free and small fish like these two guys end up facing the wrath.I think if he really needs praise, his fight must be comprehensive.

  2. But why does Zambia Police FORCE still use the gestapo system of battering suspects even when they offfer zero resistance? What difference is there with apartheid South Africa Police who murdered Steve Biko through beatings? There is none except that the South African Police was backed by law while Zambia Police is acting outside the law. Mr Ngoma should be compensated by us tax payers adequately…..while Ms Libongani and the Doctor should be petitioned to resign (Ohhh..No.. does not happen in Zambia). Mr President, please remove those two jokers at the top of the Police Command. They are making you very unpopular.

I can tell you that had the President agreed to ban machetes many innocent farmers would be subjected to the same treatment as Mr Ngoma.
