Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda has says Government is still screening the various cases of nurses who were fired for participating in an illegal strike.

Mr Shamenda said Government was still screening the cases of the nurses that had been fired to ensure that the process was not unfair to anyone.

He said in an interview in Ndola on Saturday evening that Government was also screening the cases of some of the nurses that had since re-applied for their positions after been sacked.

“We are still conducting a screening process to ensure that the exercise does not mistreat innocent people that could have been implicated in the illegal strike.

“And yes, a number of nurses have since re-applied for their jobs and even those cases are undergoing screening,” Mr Shamenda said.

He said it was normal procedure to screen the cases because while Government had fired nurses for their involvement in something illegal, it was just as important that Government did not break any law as it was dealing with the matter.

Earlier, Mr Shamenda said when he officiated at the Chifubu Secondary School former students fundraising dinner dance at the school, that the Patriotic Front (PF) Government attached importance to dialogue.

He said there was no need for workers such as nurses and teachers to resort to unlawful behaviour like illegal work stoppage in order to air their grievances.

Mr Shamenda said his office was open to dialogue and to listen to grievances and workers should take advantage of that and not go on strike..

He commended teachers for not engaging in any form of work stoppage from the time the PF came into power.

He said teachers should therefore continue with the same behaviour and raise their grievances through other channels.

Mr Shamenda implored all citizens to be messengers of dialogue and sincerity in the way grievances were raised.

  1. ba shamenda, after ukounala pension yabo pa ma h.u.l.e, last resort yali ni PF for survival. he doesnt shave umwemfu not because its ka stylo olo something, balisabelela ukushibeya kaili nempiya ya tuleza yalisa ya amba ukushupako. What can you expect from such.

  2. This govt should stop issuing contradictory statements! It’s difficult to know where they really stand. In parliament govt said no fired nurse will be considered, govt will only employ 800 graduates. Today same govt says it’s screening the cases. I am not against the nurses being re-instated, but the haphazard way of issuing personal uncoordinated statements and attributing them to “govt”. This is a very poor way of governing! It’s alarming!

  3. Kalya Unga at it again!
So you have managed to intimidate the poor ladies into accepting a meager 4% adjustment?

Remember the anger boiling inside the nurses’ hearts will explode on you soon!
