Zambia has moved three places up on the December FIFA rankings.
According to the latest rankings released by FIFA on Thursday, Zambia has moved up from 72nd to 69th place in the World.
Zambia’s third place finish at the 2013 CECAFA Cup in Kenya has helped them rise on the rankings.
Meanwhile, Zambia remains 15th on the African rankings
Had that cup headed home, things could have even been much much attractive than this! All the same better than nasingn!
Let’s be serious so is this newsworthy given that we are no where near the position we were 14 months ago.
Zambia is not going ANYWHERE so long as we still have corrupt administrators and an equally ignorant buffoon for a Sports minister. Zambia is the only football nation where its FA president resides abroad.
Zambia nabakalipa under Patrice, but we want that Chinese Physical trainer back to be Beamulle’s assistant.
This is good news. It’s a pointer to how we can rise…get busy! It also tells you the main reason the U-20 (and the national team in RSA) were disgraced this time around…dormancy. Oh, how time was wasted when we were Kings of Africa; no friendlies, no tournament, no thing, just wasted time. We could have used that Kingship as leverage to play BIG name friendlies all over the world. What’s more? Our talk right now would have been “how are we going to make it out of World Cup group stage?”
Kalusha can still be effective living abroad, not that I support that set up, if he could start district and provincial under age leagues, women leagues, find scholarships into countries like Canada, Australia, Switzerland, and US for talented girls; and play the world not just Southern…
Are CECAFA games FIFA sanctioned games. I wonder because I know the (SADC) games are not. Any one to advise please?
Its CECAFA and not SADC
yes my friend and it does alot in terms of rankings
ITS COSAFA MWEBANTU!
Sad indeed when you think of the fact that we were once ranked second on the continent.
The U-17 girls will soon be playing at a world stage. The question is: does it look like that on the ground? The answer is: a big NO! No camping, no promotions or campaigns for every game to be televised nationwide, no nationwide hyping of school children. Hyping the entire nation and using such promo to sell FAZ regalia could be a great FAZ financial and school girls recruiting windfall. But once again, DORMANCY and wasted opportunities!
Space does not allow me to list the numerous undertakings that needed to be happening on the ground, right now.
Soon we will be hosting U-20 Africa Championship? With huge WC qualification…? Once again, the question is: does it look like that on the ground? The answer is a foregone conclusion.
Lost opportunities and dormancy creep’n in,…
Spot on. ..you are asking too much of them….why would the empty suits at FAZ even exercise their brain cells when they have a blank cheque from ministry of sport.
I dont think this young girls will play to their potential because bakala bacita before the game.
It’s a small positive though, lets hope we continue gaining ground.
Football is about preparation and long term planning certainly not about merely sitting on your hands and hoping.
Wake up! !
The CECAFA tournament is FIFA recognised unlike the COSAFA. However its not what could have caused Zambias rise. This may have been due to other teams dropping. Zambia only won one game at this tournament and it was against a lower ranked Burundian team meaning the opposition strength multiplier was very low. Even the post match penalty wins were against lower ranked teams so we earned very few points
