Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has charged that Zambia was badly represented at the funeral of late South African icon Nelson Mandela.

Over 100 Heads of States and Governments including US President Barack Obama attended the memorial service for Mr Mandela while Zambia was represented by Vice President Guy Scott.

Mr Hichilema claimed that South Africa completely ignored the role that Zambia played in the liberation struggle because of the bad relationship existing between Pretoria and Lusaka.

He said Zambia lost its place in history and its role in the apartheid struggle has been rewritten.

The UPND leader was speaking in Lusaka Thursday morning when he featured on a live Joy FM radio programme.

“What happened in South Africa was embarrassing. I was there myself and it was sad to see Zambia’s contribution to the struggle completely ignored. You cannot blame South Africa, this is the result of President Sata’s bad diplomatic decisions,” Mr Hichilema said.

He added, “This is diplomacy, diplomacy is about reciprocity. You cannot expect South Africa to continue respecting you when you are not respecting them, diplomacy doesn’t work like that.”

He said Vice President Guy Scott is on record having issued disparaging remarks against South Africa and its people while President Sata embarrassing questioned why bald men were allowed inside the conference room at an AU summit in Addis Ababa when President Jacob Zuma was in the room.

“You send a Vice President to a country he called backward when world leaders are there?

He said, “President Sata embarrassing himself when he made those comments about bald men in the presence of President Zuma.”

He added, “Tanzania took its place in history very well. Their President Jakaya Kikwete represented his people and its history very well. For us history has been rewritten, the world has forgotten about all the bombings of the Magoye Bridge and Chikumbi bombings from the Smith regime because somebody elected to underplay the significance of the Mandela funeral and decided to host pupils from Chinsali at State House.”

Mr Hichilema said Zambia played a major role in South Africa’s fight to end apartheid.

“President Thabo Mbeki lived here and many other ANC leaders. The MK people (Umkhonto We Sizwe) lived with us here in Chilenje and Hellen Kaunda and in farms in Chisamba, they went to school with us at UNZA, I had classmates from South Africa and Zambia gave them free education. Zambia played such a wonderful and sacrificial role and our own progress was slowed down because we wanted the whole region to be free.”

“Now because of poor leadership and bad representation of President Sata, Zambia has to now pay the price of bad relations with our key neighbour South Africa.

Mr Hichilema said under the UPND administration, Zambia would like to rekindle the lost relationship with South Africa.

He also advised that to learn the Mandela way of forgiveness and forgive the dismissed nurses.

  1. Better to be badly under represented than for Zambia to be highly embarrassed before a global audience by our socially maladjusted village clown.

    • HH well said. Sata is a chief of confusion and he causes confusion even with such friendly and good neighbouring nations as South Africa. The serpent lacks diplomacy; This Sata has a spirit of a snake, and do you expect Sata to treat other people/countries well?

    • its a shame that we have a republican president who behaves as though state house will grow legs if he left it for a day. even going to kasama he still got to comeback to state house before sunset. bwanga bwashani bapanda aba kanshi? this is a mystery president kwena

    • This boy HH has now proven that he his no political clout and being a provincial representative is in fact way too big for him. sometimes its best to keep quiet than publicly spew your hot stinky gas from where the sun doesn’t shine.

Zambia was well and ably represented by the vice-president and KK.

Super Ken spoke well and made a significant presence of Zambia given the fact that Joyce Banda, president of Malawi spoke on behalf of SADCC.

I am happy you are not and will never be president of Zambia as there is a possibility that you would be everywhere like one Zambian president used to (no names) even when he was not invited or the meetings were just at ministerial level but would show up regardless

    • I almost congratulated HH for having said nothing abt this madiba funeral but here he comes with very disappointing comments. You think SA can ignore Zambia bcoz of sata’s comment? after all that we did for them? I am very disappointed with your reasoning mr HH….

    • True. If Sata had travelled and “tried” to make a speech on our behalf, we would have come out embarrassed even worse than his absence. The gap is better than the person himself.

    • Whoever is ill about HH then try other fora or blogs to share your anger.
HH has well articulated, he’s uprooted all facts everyone knows.
Personally was disappointed when we had national mourning for madiba, meanwhile he was entertaining children from his chiefdom. HH is the man, he’s got all facts.

    • Many bloggers on this forum would not like to be analytical. Personally I wouldn’t fall to the majority of the opinions that think off-guard of the main topics. Facts have been mentioned, I will be surprise why one wouldn’t just accept. The Zambia we have known a few years ago is slowly having its picture eroded away. Leadership style is the main contributing factor to all confusions and unhappiness of its citizens. This is the reason why most SADC countries and The AU is losing confidence in this country. Infact why cant SA govt do that. Look KK was the last man to speak, coming impromptu without even a prepared speech. That left something fishy to that…..

    • ***** HH who cares about all that rubbish we sent the Veep and KK what more do you want, the whole cabinet? This guy is really petty, we got so much serious stuff to attend to than this. Everyone knows the funeral didn’t go without glitches, their disorganization was there for all to see, they even had a mad person for an interpreter. Just give up man, it won’t happen.

    • But zambians mwaliba sana pet so what if ba Sata didn’t go to South Africa. Ba Mandela yes he did well in his life but should the all world come to a stand still just because he died. Please people Ba Mandela was not God but a human being. So please politicians don’t make something out of nothing. note: am not a politician and i don’t support any political party in Zambian

    • There is no better representative for Zambia than KK and the white VP. KK helped Mandela and his colleagues to fight the ‘boer party’. Scott represents non-racial democracy in Zambia and Africa. HH shut up

    • @Enka My very thoughts.. While its true, as I v noticed from some south African medium and the comments people are passing on KK’S speech, our reputation has slightly gone down hill due to our own doing. We forget or pay little attention to history. In our country we underestimate ourselves, we have spat on KK’s positive decisions and sacrifices during the liberation era, and instead concentrated solely on the Man’s faults and mistakes…as result people begin to disrespect and doubt us as African men and women. On the other hand KK did a good representation and Mr Sata skipping the whole affair or not choosing a better gov representative than the Rhodesian Guy Scott that we sent there, is the lesser part of two evils. One day we shall resurrect the glory of Zambia..the land of Zambezi.

    • It is disappointing to hear HH talk about representation than real issues. He is not a serous man.SA knows that whelther they like it or not break diplomatic ties or not Zambia liberated them period. What they want to do hostory has it that we managed to bring there freedom today

    • HH in 2011 you were called under 5, but now its 2 years later, and you are still not thinking. I thing you are now under 3. Surely can you rule the country such thinking? Even George Mpombo thinks than you.

    • Good words but have come too late. Rather move on than start attacking each other. Kaunda was given the chance at least South Africa clearly stated that even though they were running out of time? There was no way; Zambian founding President would not speak considering the role Zambia played. Thanks to KK otherwise it was going to be disaster. SAT has really messed up our relations with most countries. The man should go come 2016. He is either too old, has lost it with wrong advisors. what a shame.

  2. Ah please mr hakainde that issue has passed. talk about more sensible things. picking on anything trivial to make noise about. be on MUTE sometimes

  3. Symbolism and ceremony are ugly step-sisters… It is time we went on with our lives, tending to those things that are adding value and productivity to our lives. This concentration on all things intangible is not useful in a country that has such a struggling mass of people just trying to get by.

    • Guess, how we got here! This is not a small issue, my friends. This spills over into losses in trade (economy), security of a country (region), potential bilateral opportunities, support in matters of importance to our nation at big international gatherings and election of Zambian personnel at such bodies. With our people suffering, as you accurately state, you can’t afford to so recklessly lose potential voters and allies. The public office, more so that of the of president, is so important that you are not at liberty to be rash. Anytime you open your mouth to speak, you must represent well. The electorate put you there to ably represent them. Unfortunately, this lesson, Sata hasn’t learned yet. Will he ever?… Time is running out.

  4. Ba HH a lot of people are suffering and you r busy politicizing on trivial issues twebeni ifyo mu katutaka we r not going to eat diplomacy. This is the time to sale yo manifestle

  5. There’s no need to keep on talking about Mandela’s funeral. Would it have grown our economy if Sata and Co. attended the funeral, Bo HH???? Let ‘s move on with our lives and stop wasting on things we can’t change!!!!!!

    • Well spoken Czar, sad we have leaders who still lives in the dark like HH! Talk real issues not the past Madiba funeral. May the soul of this great African son rest in PEACE.

  6. If u are not a critical thinker as many of HH’s supporters are u may think he has spoken some gospel truth. There are many questions that i may ask u Hichilema. However,u must know if those were the reasons for SA’s downplaying Zambia’s role,Jehovah

    • iwe nokoh chinyoh, nishinga bamipela ukulanda ifyabupa pakuti naifwe tujoine? pantu mwalipama mwe mba mwe.you see things upside down lo teti mulechitefyo mahala.

    • Iwe Chloroquin bitterness, stop spewing garbage here. Each and every person who blogs here is entitled. You are not the only one with a head, brain, eyes and hands to type your views. From which part of your mother were you given life? if the same as all of us you have just described your own mother, have some respect for parents you cursed lumpen!
And truly attending Mandelas’ funeral by Sata rather than KK would have been totally improper!

  7. God shall reward Zambia nd we don’t need their recognition at such occassions dat re mostly characterised with human hypocrise.lt is the SA that will have a troubled conscience for whatever they did.l don’t think kk’s leadership did what …

  8. You PF cadres, are you sure there is no connection between diplomacy and bread and butter issues? Your dullness is appalling! So everything that HH says is trivial to you. We know Wynter gives you 50 ZMK for every post pro-PF but sometimes take leave from nonsensical PF line of reasoning. Good neighbourliness is important for economic survival. Zambia cut diplomatic ties with Southern Rhodesia, South-west Africa an South Africa and we had spend billions to build a rail line and oil pipeline to Dar port. Zambia cut ties with Israel and they abandoned the UNZA construction project. Think PF cadres, THINK!

    • Zambia was represented – full stop.

Remember a month ago Jacob Zuma classified South Africa as not being Africa – he made disparaging remarks against Malawi and claimed south Africa is better off than Africa.

Guy Scott spoke his mind – in reference to what Zuma said – what is your take?

We are a sovereign nation and we make decisions through out leaders. So far so good. Zambia is rising and rising very fast. Poverty is there, but that is just life. It will take a long time to eradicate it but we are doing our best as a country under our leaders to do something about it.

It is Sata’s time – 2016 maybe HH’s time – but know that HH will not eradicate poverty – with his capitalist mentality, he will even make it worse.

    • You are right, to date the Zambian government has failed to complete some of the structures at UNZA. Diplomacy and good neighbourliness are very important. As a head of state you cannot always delegate representation. Presidents like Obama with seriously busy schedules do leave their countries once in a while to attend international gatherings. In the process stronger bonds are created with other countries. The advisors of our current president are doing a very bad job. Or is it that the man does not listen to advice?

  9. I think politics have now gone to dogs or vice versa. Sure ba HH can you sure make political fortune out of the funeral of the late icon Tata Madiba? Surely the funeral will not make you popular politically. And this idea of saying me when I was at UNZA no my class mates is typical of a villager. Sure ba boss you are not the first Zambian to go Unza. We have professors, Doctors mention them they do not talk like you do. You are the people we call educated illiterate. You can have all the degrees on this earth that’s your life. Stop embarrassing your self with no me when I was unza bla bla bla we are tired and sick of this nonsense. This is the more reason why you are not a presidential material.

  10. they did in order to seek praises from Zuma or indeed any human being but becoz it was a right thing to do for humanity.Actually if they did what u say they did then they displayed the opposite of what Mandela stood for.lf u are good natured u can

  11. HH never passes an opportunity to make political mileage at any event regardless.is political relevance seems to diminish at each attempt.

  12. u don’t look at trivial matters. The role Zambia played suppasers anything Sata or his vice might have done wrongly. The amaturish from hh is dat he speaks,”mulomomulomo”U re de 1 and yo minions like RB who’ve wanted turnish Zed’s name abroad.

    • Osmore, you are right. I have just remembered this f00l, Nevers & RB wrote to have Zambia suspended from the commonwealth and today he is blaming the president for missing the Madiba funeral. What could be more negative diplomatic behaviour than lobbying for your own country to be suspended from a global body?
MCS is human and may have had an ailment during the Madiba funeral and hence what happened. With the likes of HH to contend with MCS’s handlers must have thought releasing information that the president is unwell will have HH et al in fits of excitement and daydreaming of Sata being dead.
Let’s discuss progress and not regressing everytime.

  13. Surely we all know that the man in state house has no presidential qualities, he cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow Head of state. Period. And that is why he shuns such occasion. How do you establish rapour with colleages if you stay away from such gathering. Next time do not elect a moron who cannot think if you want to be served from embarrassment- period. shame on Sata for his abnormal behavior. Even the people supporting him should have their heads determined. is it normal to fire nurses when you have shortages- there are no other ways of disciplining such actions. It takes intelligence, diplomacy and humility to be president . All lacking in this Chi-sata. Just because you easily access health services at our expense you can fire nurses at will. Mark my words God is seeing

    • MAn Sata rocks, come 2016 he has my vote…. as long as you keep insulting us who voted sata into office instead of selling your manifesto we will vote for him again and again.. thereafter we will vote for kambwili until you learn to respect humanity and sell your manifestos without insulting our decisions. its as simple as that.

    • @jeff
you 1diot speak for yourself do not generalise. I voted for pf but not in 2016, any other normal person wouldn’t either, including the fired nurses only imbeciles would put back sata. if you are illiterate you want everybody else to accept illiterate kambwili ney.

    • @matipa thanx for the correction, i will vote for sata again and again, thats what illiterates do, you know….. maybe you should follow your advice and speak for yourself too. the difference between illiterates and you the most learnt is that we focus on issue and not insults.

    • Actually from where I am, Matipa sounds more of an illiterate than geff. Zambia is really politically sensitive. I recall before the last elections opposers of Sata calling each and every supporter of Sata a Kaponya. I once got very personal with 1 and described myself in detail and agreed that yes I am a graduate Kaponya who will vote for Sata just to teach some of you pompous arses a lesson.
I still don’t regret voting for him as he is reasonably doing well and with more effort l will vote for him again come 2016.

    • @Jameson Kaliza Chachine Ubushilu too much ba ma ka ka firing nurses, in large numbers in a country with such huge health needs is a crisis, creating a crisis equivalent to something like a war…unnecessary pressure. That’s madness.

  14. “Mr Hichilema claimed that South Africa completely ignored the role that Zambia played in the liberation struggle because of the bad relationship existing between Pretoria and Lusaka.

He said Zambia lost its place in history and its role in the apartheid struggle has been rewritten.” … Your president ba UPND is a million times more intelligent when he keeps quiet than the usual dull one we know him to be when he yap…yaps.

What was there to fight for … if they recognized us or not; so what? Why should we start wasting our resources fighting to be recognized over something that is straight forward? Iwe HH, you mean to say, if you went there on the GRZ ticket …. your mission would have been to claim we had a role in their independence? I thought it would have been to mourn!

  15. Knowing Madiba,he was going 2 be the happiest 2 c our beloved President host children rather dan being at such fora where u display only hypocricy of the highest order.l persive HH is dat type dat goes 2 funerals 2 be seen that,’bamalila malilo’.

  16. HH please am sure there are more pertinent issues for example: The climate is changing, the earth is warming up, and there is now overwhelming scientific consensus that it is happening, and human-induced. With global warming on the increase and species and their habitats on the decrease, chances for ecosystems to adapt naturally are diminishing.
Many agree that climate change may be one of the greatest threats facing the planet. Recent years show increasing temperatures in various regions, and/or increasing extremities in weather patterns. What measures will you put in place to sustain Zambia’s environment and how will you balance it with economic development?

  17. We paid heavily for them to be what they are today.lt is time to be ourselves. lt is not time to seek praises from anyone on the expense of what is best for mother Zambia.

    • My brother you are very right. They chewed our 7billion dollars and never helped us to pay back.More over we respected them so much that we sent super Ken our great founding Father, what more can one demand!
      Thanks

  18. Hahahahahahahaha ati HH well said my foot! This simply shows how petty HH is. How about several other countries that had no high level representation at all. Uli ikalafye MR wannabe.

  19. HH, u are the one after recognition u would’ve told Zuma to do so to u.2016 is just in the corner and u will be tought another unforgottable lesson.

  20. HH, dont you think you are bringing confusion in this country? what do you think south africans will take us for? Don’t be childish….. Sha!!!!!!!!!

  21. Guess, how we got here!

  22. any reasonable Zambian has see that Zambian economy, political, has changed from good to bad just imagine a 25kg mealie meal trading at k85.00 about 16 us dollars. reasonable Zambians vote wisely come 2016.

  23. ahm am still thinking about HH comments. But I thought we were well represented. Please ba HH go to history books smith was prime minister for Southern Rhodesia now Zimbabwe. The bombings were for the Zim freedom fighters. we never hosted a camp for MK. they were all in Tanzania. its was a strategic decision because Zambia was to close to a similar regime in Zim and Namibia was under SA apartheid govt. I think we did well as a nation.

  24. I THINK ZAMBIA WAS REPRESENTED WELL BY THE PRESENT OFF KK,VP AND ZAMBIA DECLARED 7 DAY OF MOURNING.MAY I ASK,DID HH ATTEND? i SAW CHANGARAYE,HH SHOULD STOP CHEAP POLITICS.
LET NOT HH FOR GET WHAT HE SAID ON CAMPAIN ABOUT THE AGE OF THE PRESIDENT. CALCULATE YOUR AGE PLUS 10YRS SATA WILL RULE. IAM JUST REMIND HIM

  25. Though am not a fan of HH, the point he has advanced makes sense and needs to be supported by well meaning Zambians. Zambia sacrificied a lot to the liberation of SA and other states but she was totally ignored because of the percieved diplomatic rile between the two nations. If USA can be represented by all the living present and past President who are we not to be represented by our Sata and KK, Mandela was really a world figure. Tanzania’s president stole the limelight by highlighting some of their contributions to Mandela and apatheid struggle and made history but I don’t think they can surpass Zambia’s contribution to Mandela and his pipo KK can attest to this fact. That’s why we needed Sata to be there as head of state of Zambia like was the case with other heads of states.

  26. Zambia’s history has been rewritten! Who has the mandate to write the History of Zambia anyway? Cuba played a big role in helping the South Africans during the apartheid, yet they are not mentioned anywhere. It is not the duty of the South African people or Michael Sata to document your history into their history. The utterances by HH are misplaced and ill conceived. The Man will always try to find some fault in everything. Why do we need to make a big fuss about Sata not attending the funeral. KK and Guy Scott represented Zambia and you HH of course so stop complaining!

  27. Indeed Zambia was poorly organised and represented. Tanzania stole the show. Scot is mad and so is KK. Sata is also going insane. And the three are currently ruling the country. Can you imagine? This country is indeed degenerating. Reading the postings condeming HH from one or two cadres pretending to be several, one can just sense desperation of these mad men( Sata. KK and Scot)

    • CHI outside indeed! You are such a cursed young man or woman! Stop dimining respectful elderly people. KK is very sane, health and strong at 89 years old and you with that filthy mind will never reach his age. KK had a personal relationship with Madiba, which he respected and never exploited even when Chiluba harrased him. Whatever evil you plan against KK, Guy and Sata will only cause you a heart attack and no harm to them.

  28. Zambia is better off without any president, minister or MP.
They are all crooks and selfish buggers.
Waffling *****s with no balls and concern for constituents.

  29. This is inferiority complex. Why are people fighting to be friends with SA? Is SA heaven? Zambia, Tanzania etc wants to be recognized! What type of people are we? Are South Africans more superior than the rest such that people have fight to be recognized by SA? Where is God’s place? Are people in interested in SA just because there infrastructure is superior and everyone wants to associate with them? I am happy because me as a human being is much more advanced than a thousand sky scrapers. Even if they don’t recognize Zambia, it doesn’t matter. Offcourse we know that Zambia played the biggest role and that is why Mandela came to Zambia first after being released. Even if I live in a ramshackle as long as I have peace and happiness, that is fine. That is what is important to me,…

  30. Only foolish brainless bloggers can’t see sense in what HH said. These are facts and will come to haunt us sooner or later.
Let’s see what happens when sata gets too sick – fly him to mill park hospital????

  31. I don’t support most of HH’s opinions, nor do i support HH politically. Not any single bit! But i surely and sincerely agree and support his statement on this issue. You are spot on UPND President. I equally thought Zambia deserved recognition and commendation for all she did during the Apartheid Era. Because of our sour relations like you have put it, everyone world over now thinks that its actually Tanzania that did all the support and all the sacrifice. It was disheartening to hear that Tanzania had to halt some of its development in order to help and render support because that’s exactly what my beloved country Zambia did. Its sad especially after all the efforts from my country.

  32. Even if they don’t recognize Zambia, it is not a big deal. Why is that every country wants to be associated with SA? Is SA heaven on earth? So what if they don’t recognize us? Are they gods? Is it because they have superior infrastructure such that everyone wants to associate themselves with SA where there is good standard of living? We all know what Kaunda did for them. That is why Mandela came to Zambia first and not Tanzania, Zim , Malawi or any other country. But why this recognition nonsense? I believe in happiness and joy. God should recognize one and not a fellow human being. God has a way of rewarding people. So if SA doesn’t recognize ZED, it is there own indaba. One day God will raise us up.

    • SA is miles ahead of zambia, yes makes it look like heaven on earth. Imagine if we reach a point in our industry were we sell services to other country do u think our poor image will sell? Our we going to trade with SA if we have sour tiesl? Maybe u think image is not important but no man is an island. It applies to countries too. As a society the more relevant we are to each the better. It applies in international trade, and a good image can only help us. Its wishful thinking that our economy will grow on imports. SA to me is part of Europe and we shouldn’t condemn for doing so well, we should learn from them. And what is this stupid reliance on God??? How long having been that? Am sure God is not interested in helping a helpless mindset.

    • @cnp very dull! have you read my comments correctly, i didn’t say that Zambia is an island. Everyone depends on the other. But I hate when countries fight to be recognised by SA. If they don’t recognise us so what? Why should countries have that inferiority complex to SA just because they have superior infrustructures thereby competing to be favoured by SA? And the issue of God? What i meant is that God ultimately is the rewarder of everything we do directly or indirectly. So if SA doesn’t recognize ZED, God one day will reward us. I personally don’t look to man for favours. If you do CNP that is your own cup of tea. SA took many years to develop before our country ZED was born. So go and beg to be recognized. We will do trade with them, but begging to be recognised: forget

    • Let me try to put this in simple terms to you. Zambia is doing itself any favours by presenting an image that is at odds with SA It won’t help to pick fight with SA or pretend we are bigger coz we r not. We are trying to work with who exactly? when the state has an insult for every pres in the region? I will wait for God to build our image but right now I hear the.best salesman is unshaven, dirty and arrogant. It took a long time to build SA??? We hav had 50 years, and you demonstrate what we are, arrogant at the moment

    • Ian Smith was prime minister of Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). His government and the apartheid regime had common interests (minority rule) and threatened countries like Zambia which stood for the liberation of the entire region. Zambia harboured both Zimbabwean and South African freedom fighters aplenty and the attacks were systematically carried out by both regimes. This is what HH is referring to.

  33. I do not find anything wrong about what HH said. It is factual! Sata is giving this country a bad name. Even foreign journalists are shock as to how we Zambians ended up with ‘such’ (leadership)!!
I voted for Sata in 2011 because I had high hopes in him but he has let me down. I will note waste my vote again!

  34. I do not find anything wrong with what HH said. It is factual! Sata is giving this country a bad name. Even foreign journalists are shocked as to how we Zambians ended up with ‘such’ (leadership)!!
I voted for Sata in 2011 because I had high hopes in him but he has let me down. I will not waste my vote again!

    • Jack.
We are the only few that have accepted HH’s sentiments to be true. Look most of the bloggers on this page are full-time hypocrites. They go to wherever the majorities opinions are falling, but look, people need to be analytical in this. Ya KK was there, but he was only allowed to speak at the end of the ceremony. He came impromptu without a prepared speech…..i believe Zambian mission in RSA pleaded with them (Disorganisation)

  35. Personally, I would rather send money to buy a coffin or mealie meal or even contribution for logistical/ transport support rather than merely travelling to attend a funeral and coming back without any contribution at all.
It is appaling how many Zambians what to just attend and offer zero material support at funerals. In most cases, people travel to attend a funeral and inflict more burden and pain to the bereaved family by asking for transport to travel back home or overstaying and depleting the mealiemeal storage. This is the mentality of an average Zambian household and no surprise it is been exhibited here, with no evidence of remorse or shame.

Only change management shall deliver our beloved Zambia from our socio-economical woes. Change for everyone will deliver Zambia

  36. I am sure underfive Hichilema has been shown how truly unpopular he is in Zambia through this unbiased site. Most of these anti-HH comments cant survive on Watchdog, they will immediately be deleted. I thank you LT for affording us this open forum where everybody can comment without the fear of having their comments deleted. Keep it up

  37. Trouble of lacking experience in politics. SA’s ungrateful behavior did not start with MCS and PF. If you know your country you should have known that SA started showing strange colours years while still under Kaunda. HH has never been in government therefore understands very little about diplomacy and international politics. Has he heard SA complain, no because they fully understand the circumstances.
Zambians need to be careful, even in shops, restaurants, hotels, banks employers look for people with some years of experience to employ. This man without any experience can surely not manage a country. Even in America or Europe, they do not pick people in the street to become their leaders. HH will just die complaining as people now know he knows absolutely nothing about politics.

  38. PF cadres here never seize to amaze me, is this honestly what summer kabimba pays you 50pins to go to internet cafes and write about?…….what kind of substance has cycle mata intoxicated or brainwashed you wilt? its simple and straight forward that Zambia’s relationship with south Africa is on the brink and as soon as KK dies, you will start applying for visas before you jump on that plan, anyway majority of you dont even know the importance of diplomatic relations just as your cycle mata

  39. I agree with HH. We were indeed poorly represented. In such matters bloggers should look at what someone is saying and not who is saying it.

  40. HH SHOULD NOT FORGET THAT IN AFRICAN TRAD,YOU CAN NOT GO TO THE FUNERAL HOUSE AND STARTED SAYING ,THIS PERSON WHO IS DEAD,I KEPT HIM,GAVE HIM FOOD AND TRANSPORT. WHAT DOES IT MEAN ? TOO CHILDISH.
IF KK HAD TO SAY EVERYTHING,TABO IS WITNESS.DID HH WENT NATIONAL SERVICE,I WONDER!
    STRATAGE,TACTICS

  41. I have never necessarily been a fan of HH, however I do have to commend him on this issue, for he is very right. Zambias diplomatic ties with South africa are not great and as HH rightfully states, Satas comments as well as those of Dr Guy Scott have caused a rift between the two governments ans yes Zambia was sidlined at the mandela funeral, if it was not for KKs closeness with the ANC, Zambia would have hardly recieved any mention.

As stated above, Zambia just keeps slipping and slipping with each President that comes into office……………….God help us

  42. You fuss over trivia HH. America was badly represented. Obama was busy taking “selfies” and flirting with that lady (Danish PM) in the presence of his wife.
It was a funeral, and what you care about is representation? Really? Why should Zambia take ownership of Mandela’s funeral?

  43. YOUNG MAN, PLEASE PLAY POLITICS FOR THE BENEFIT OF YOUR GENERAL CONSTITUENTS RATHER THAN PLAYING TO THE GALARY BY EXPRESSING YOUR PERSONAL SENTIMENTS NGA BWAIMA FYE.

EACH DELEGATION WAS THERE FOR A PURPOSE LIKE CUBA FOR THE ROLE THEY PLAYED AND TO MEET OBAMA. MALAWI TO SPEAK FOR SADC. TANZANIA’S PRESENCE WAS GOING TO BE MORE APPRECIATED IF NYERERE WAS ALIVE BECAUSE OF HIS ATTACHMENT TO MANDELA DURING THE STRUGGLE.

APART FROM ZAMBIA MALAWI AND TANZANIA, THERE WAS NO OTHER COUNTRY IN THE REGION WHOSE PRESENCE WAS EVEN MENTIONED.

  44. HH Zambia was ably represented by VP and KK. The Mandela Funeral was blown out of proportion, how many freedom fighters have died, most of the countries represented have their own interest to protect ie Bratain has its citizens ( white farmers) to protect and USA has equally its citizens and business ( Angro- America co-operation) to protect, didnt you see them playing at the memorial service. Before we start making a mountain out of a mole hill ask KK why he refered to BOER PARTY and then ask Mugabe what the same western countries have done to Zimbabwe. Mandela was inside looking outside (27yrs) when freedom for both himself and his country was being fought by his comrades. plse note that these selfless comrades were fighting not to make a name for themselves, some of our own pipo died

  45. WE WERE NOT POORLY REPRESENTED. KK WAS THE ONE WHO WAS GIVEN A CHANCE TO SPEAK AT LAST I.E BEFORE THE ONE FOR VOTE OF THANKS (THE GENERAL). REMEMBER THE FUNERAL WAS NOT ONLY FOR ZAMBIA AND WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO HELPED SOUTH AFRICA. WE WERE INVITED AND WE SENT KK AND GUY SCOTT (WHITE VICE PRESIDENT) TO SHOW THEM THAT WE STILL DO NOT TOLERATE RACISM.

  46. If We as nation think we are great, we should seriously look at where we are as an economy and a society. There is a sense of “we are better,in alot of aspects”. I

  47. Just because HH has said something now it’s time for kolwestans to vent out their tribalistic anger. Zambia is really full of retards, majority are kolwestans who mostly think with their tribe and ever hungry stomachs.

  48. He could not himself attend due to his fetish belief on bald heads. His face always like that of a tormented brutal sick ill mannered *****

  49. I think u bullz are now getting mad with yo ka under 3 cod HH,sure what more did u want the president to do?he declared a seven days national morning, he sent guru KK,veep and u ka HH, were u not enough to represent us? Shame on Hakabwamba Hakatombe whether u like it o not come 2016 we wil ambalase u as we did in 2011 man of action wil b in plot 1 again we are going 2 vote for him as long as u don’t grow up politically and go and start from the ward.

  50. I think u bullz are now getting mad with yo ka under 3 cod HH,sure what more did u want the president to do?he declared a seven days national mourning, he sent guru KK,veep and u ka HH, were u not enough to represent us? Shame on Hakabwamba Hakatombe whether u like it o not come 2016 we wil ambalase u as we did in 2011 man of action wil b in plot 1 again we are going 2 vote for him as long as u don’t grow up politically and go and start from the ward.

  51. “When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares it is his duty” – George Bernard Shaw

In this case HH thinks it is ‘his duty’ to rekindle the ‘lost relationship’ with South Africa. What an absolute clown who knows nothing and just likes being in the headlines!

  52. I totally agree with HH. The government decided to send Guy Scott who not very long ago stated that he hated South Africans and that the were backwards. This was an insult to Mandela and all South Africans, it would have been better to send even a ka mini bus driver than the white boer who insulted this country. Good job Sata didn’t go he would have insisted on making a campaign speech and distribute insults, especially to the bald men. He seems to be afraid of bald me, why not KK? Makes you wonder.

  53. History can not be re-written because because of the absence of one head of state at a funeral. The ANC was headquartered in Lusaka Zambia and nothing will change that. Zambia as country paid heavily by loss of human lives and economic disadvantage for the freedom of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia and SA. If these countries choose to have selective memory lapses where this history is concerned, should not be a matter for us to start begging them to jog their memory. When the time came to offer hand to aid our neighbors, KK and country can not be faulted. For HH to fault the country for not sending higher representation to attend a funeral is as petty as is misplaced.

  54. VIVA HH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only short sighted minds cannot understand this mature reasoning from HH. I was in Luapula/NP last week. The illiteracy and laziness there is unmatched. That’s why HEMS’s type of rantings appreciated in that area. Please GOD save us

    • Typical ZWD blogger! You are not even aware that Luapula achieved the best Grade 7 results in Zambia! If you are going to be that dull, then be prepared to die a bitter person.

  55. True HH is stupid not wth his Party No !
What he should bear in mind is that Not everyone in Zambia is a “Mason”…He wants us to start worshiping them when they pass on ! For what !
After All they do (as masons) & he do things to suit themselvs..
Usless Mason WAPWA ABANTU MU ZAMBIA

  56. The President should have been there period. High offices come with a lot of responsibility. Let the president say so if he himself feels the VP is more capable so that we know who actually shoulders the responsibility the office.

  57. Good afternoon

These are “One-Way” arguments from the opposition.

KK was a good representative for Zambia at Mandela’s funeral. The man himself is a living testimony of Zambia’s role in South Africa’s liberation struggle and this cannot be denied by any reasonable thinking person. I personally think his vote of thanks was enough as he did not fear to grab the bull by it’s horns and told the story exactly the way it was.

It is absurd for HH to claim that “Zambia has lost its place in history and its role in the apartheid struggle has been rewritten” just because the diplomatic relationship between Lusaka and Pretoria is not so rosy. After the NSA scandal, Berlin and Washington are not best friends either, but does that mean Germany lost its place in World history?

  58. Its true if the president had gone,he could have been given the most attention.

I happen to be in Pretoria,Johansburg and later capetown in the midst of the elite,i think there is true about the comment from att on the second and that has not created a healthy mind with most faithful and royalist black and white south African and are serious on such comments KK helped

This was the same people there was ICASA at the convention centre were the first lady represented Zambia very well to the amazement of many white delegates Congolese including people from west African in the midst.

I signed in the condolence books both in Pretoria and capetown water front in the company of…

  59. Rather it was same time when ICASA was taking place at the convention Centre and then the funeral

Diplomacy is important and any amount of carpet will not help issues.Madam Kaseba enjoyed more respect and attention than what we saw being to our most esteemed VP .It was quiet embarrassing to see our VIP being relegated when others actually stole the lime light

Many in the midist honestly and fairly hinted to say the president was going to be gven much lime light than the VIP because of the diplomancy

  60. KK who was the president during the SA liberation struggle and who did so much for the struggle attended the funeral and made a speech. If South Africans want to be UNGRATEFUL , that is up to them.

  61. BUT HAS RSA COMPLAINED? ONLY NONENTITIES SEEK RECOGNITION AT PUBLIC FORA. SATA DOES NOT NEED TO ATTEND A FUNERAL FOR RECOGNITION. WE WERE ABLY REPRESENTED BY KK AND THE VP. ZAMBIA HAS ALREADY DONE A LOT FOR SA. WE HOSTED THE ANC HQ DURING THEIR STRUGGLE, MANY SA FREEDOM FIGHTERS STAYED IN ZAMBIA, SATA EVEN DECLARED 7 DAYS OF MOURNING FOR MADIBA. ONLY LATE COMERS ON THE SCENE WILL WANT TO GAIN SOME LAST MINUTE POLITICAL CLOUT AT THE FUNERAL OF MADIBA. SATA IS A VERY INDEPENDENT THINKER AND ASSERTIVE TOO. HE DOES NOT NEED TO MOVE WITH THE CROWD ALL THE TIME.

  62. one week to late ba HH. were have u been.
Sh*** Up and move on and let Madiba RIP.
Even the prince of Wales,Ophrah, J.Jackson, etc did not make a speech…

  63. These are rubbish-stinking rantings from HH. I always wonder why dirt comes from his mouth whenever he opens his mouth. HH , please understand that you de-campaign yourself coz of your divisive speeches you always give to Zambians. Why cant you for once be uniting and building in your speeches than always being antagonistic? HH please grow up man. What difference would Sata have made which Kaunda (a friend to Mandela) did not make? Bo HH, sometimes it is good to keep quiet when you have nothing to say.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  64. If there is any “bad blood” or damaged relations between RSA and Zambia, HH, RB, and Mumba are among the foremost people to blame. These are the same characters, thru their ‘layer’, Amsterdam, who have been busy tarnishing Zambia’s name in foreign lands. And now HH want to blame someone else?

With little to go around, Zambia fed and protected South Africans in their time of need. And Zambia has move on. We are a proud and optimistic people who shouldn’t be going around seeking praises and recognition for our sacrifices at funerals.

Sata not attending Mandala’s funeral wouldn’t have added an iota of substance to the relations that exists between us and RSA. If the RSA leadership doesn’t want to acknowledge our contributions to the liberation movement, THAT’S THEIR PROBLEM!

  65. Just an observation. The MC wanted KK to end his speech because of time. Was it really because of time or because of something he had said? I’ve listened to many of Mandela’s speeches after his release from prison. I don’t remember him referring to the NP as the ‘BOER’ party, leader etc. He forgave and moved on. Yes ,what KK said was humorous but was it the right forum?

    • And White South Africans are all ‘bent out of shape’ over this, right?

My friend, history isn’t always pretty. And KK used the term BOER in its proper context in order to capture the gravity of the moment in time. Lest we all become complacent and start to think that South Africa began on the day Mandela was inaugurated. And what could be a better forum to say what KK said than on the day someone who epitomizes the struggles against the “Boers” was being laid to rest?

And one of the ‘ugly truths’ is that White South Africans called themselves BOERS. Therefore I see no contradiction referring to the Party they belonged to as a “Boer Party”, since it was for Whites only.

We can try to avoid, sanitize, or be politically polite, but historical facts can be very stubborn…

  66. Thinking aloud! Why was KK asked to give a speech? Whose conscious was bothered Kaunda ‘s or the South African government? Even if they would have preferred to prentend that he was not there they still felt compelled to let him say one or two words, that for me says a lot, they know what KK or Zambia did for them. But then even if they decided not to recognise Zambia’s contribution to the fight of apartheid we still won’t lose anything but we should be glad that we helped in a way. How many countries did Zambia assist in their struggle for independence and how many have actually come out to thank us? Very few the latest being Nambia! But its fine we did our part to help what we need to do now it try and develop our own country and make it habitable for everyone though that may take…

  67. Seeking recognition is childish, claiming merits every time….just be happy that you helped the rest is up the recipient of that help we can not force someone to appreciate our contribution. Umwana amano alatasha but even without that deep down the individual knows what happen for him or her to reach the promised land! By the way a funeral is no place to put out a litany who did what etc!!! KK was the right person to go Sata’s presence wouldn’t have made a difference in any way….tekumonekelafye! The Government was also represent by the the Vice President regardless to whether they like him or not.

  68. How many representatives did the South African government send during the funerals of Levy Mwanawasa and Chiluba, way before the so called “sour relationships” even existed. Stop ranting mwaiche HH!!!!

    • You are very wrong! It actually shows that Zambians are not as gullible as HH thinks. Well at least not on this site. Please do not confuse financial power with greatness.

  69. friendship is a give and take and then with self limitation it should not be forced

We have a very likeable and respected high commissioner there who apparently was well attended to and commands a high reputation Zambia is a humane country full of rich Historians who can document the history and use appropriate forus including the high commission in Pretoria to show and restate the correct history in a more quiet and discrete manner foregoing the above

Its about proper PR like the Caristo Chitafya tourism programme use him to document and rest the issue to the liking of mant southafricans including Zuma himself

  70. Having KK there and a white vice president did not only represent a proper reflection on history (KK’s involvement with ANC) but also shown the future that Mandela fought for, where blacks and whites could live together(Guy Scott the first and only white VC in the entire Africa). This repesenattion was more fitting for Mandela’s legacy than parading our current president. Let us not forget SA is being led by a thug (Jacob Zuma) who was publicly booed by his own people and really his judgement is very iffy. The diplomatic spat is more of SA’s doing than ZAmbia if HH did not know, Zambians have always needed yellow fever certficates to go to SA when Botwana and Zimbabwe arent. Sata is trying to address this imbalance. Making a joke about someone without hair is no reason for a fallout

  71. HH waba amatako, how do you say Zambia was not properly represented, when the country was represented by VP and Former Head of State. If SA choses to ignore Zambias contribution to their independence, that cannot be attributed to SATA, it is their own decision, and I am sure you are totally wrong to insinuate. Actually you are insulting South Africans by insinuating that they ignored Zambias contributions to that country’s independence. Look there are better issues in Zambia worth tabling before Zambians than sticking your pick in matters outside your borders. Try to be mature just for once even just for the sake of Mandela. So much things did not go right during Mandela’s funeral, yet people have decided to move on out of respect of the passing on person, Mandela. Shut up, b4 i kck u

  72. Politicking in Zambia can emanate from anything. Last time we were complaining of the former president traveling out almost every week, and this time some people are still complaining about the current president not traveling out often! What is right, then?

    • Bushe uwingailishanya pa lwacililo niani?

Just admit that the presido fambod. We must ask ourselves this question that previous governments Zambia used to receive presidents from many countries but why today?

  73. After all those tantrums, as is usual from you, HH, the bottom line is that you will never be president of Zambia!

  74. It is not right to send someone who is already looked at as a rebel to such an important event. One sending Guy Scott who is the minister of Disaster management but not counted as a vise president. Guy Scott is not true vice president because we normally see when the president is out of the country he leaves someone either Minister of Home Affairs or Minister of Finance while the so called vice president is in the country and this South Africa knows quite well that he was a bad representation.

We can go on debating on this issue but the truth is that we have failed and let us accept it the way it all wrongly presented. It could have been good to be represented by the Min. of Finance who sounds sensible, no wonder he did not talk but Big brain KK did and that was fine for me than…

  75. Remember Rwanda. Over 900,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were murdered because the Hutus branded Tutsis as cockroaches in the media. Let’s ask ourselves if Tongas dont have a right to express themselves on issues affecting their own country? Dont they have a right to express support for or opposition against their own head of state?

I am not Tonga myself but do feel for them. HH’s comments can be supported/criticized but demeaning him on the basis of his ethnicity is totally irresponsible and a recipe for anarchy. Remember there are only two tribes in Zambia; either you are Lunda or Luba..the rest are just dilates of the two..making us all the same people, coming from Kola (Lunda-Luba Kingdom)..outside this group are “foreigners”. Tame your tongues.

  76. I’m beginning to think it was a great move by HEMCS *not* to have attended the funeral. Who knows what nonsense he would have said out there.

This will be a very long 5-year term — one that we will continue to pay for for years to come.

    #OneZambia

  77. If we helped SA so much, that is the more reason they should pay back to us. We do not owe them anything for us to start running around to rush to Mandela funeral. They owe us a lot. HH ulicipuba.

  78. Zambia was ill represented, this you call KK’s speech was ill timed and unnecessarily length. A President’s show at any occasion adds more value than any other citizen. If KK and Scot contested an election against Sata, they would not beat because of there slim impact in society. We would have done better.

  79. Mr HH please speak about real issues. Scott and KKs presence was just fine so long as they represented Zambia. If so many people went what difference would it have made. May Mr Mandelas soul rest in peace.

  80. For sure it was good Sata was not at the funeral. Otherwise he could have greatly embarrassed us. He is better quiet or absent!
I wonder why he calls others under five when it is he himself who is un diplomatic un courteous and without sense of occasion!!!

  81. Sata ,u are great. let this youngman who’ll never be President of our country c how your cup overflows. U served our money by not attending yoself sir.U don’t need to be recognised by SA for yo works to be seen.Maybe eva hh as he is a non entity.

  82. I now know that this demagogue wishes Zambia has bad relationships with her neighbours thereby injuring our economy.Hh thinks this will be to his advantage. HH is an enermy of our country. Sata rightly described him,SABOTOUR.U MULOMO iwee

  83. HH had some very valid points here. There is not a single African country that I can think of that has sacrificed more to the liberation of southern african nations than Zambia. Refugees, free education, free lodging, devastating attacks on vital infrastructures. To me Zambians should be given a free pass to any of the southern countries as a thank you gesture because the sacrifice was huge and cannot be ignored.

  84. here comes the world’s most bitter, envious and scumbag man. Hallo pipo am HH the man from bastustan enclave with a backward and inferior mind. Sure hh this is not Jesus who died; ve a life bro.

During the pact with pf instead of this scumbag campaigning he went to US makes a grand entry back into zed as if that ll win him elections. This time atwala ichimpwena kuli mandela fineral fogettin all the nurses he chops and promised jobs back rushes back to boost.

Anyone in his senses that can ever think this low class enclave cud be president must ve his brains examined.

  85. Mostly unpalatable blogs akin to the unrhythmic twists and turns of crocs when devouring their prey. Why it has not occurred to the poor creatures that food, when chewed tastes better than when swallowed whole is beyond me.

The matter of whether Zambia was adequately represented at Mandela’s funeral is one of individual opinion. HH’s opinion on the matter does not necessarily make anyone else’s wrong or vice versa – i.e. a grey area.

Why then must this turn out to be so contentious that HH must be insulted for saying what he said and bloggers fight over it? Does UNZA offer a major in political science at all or not? Or is this a reflection of its low rating at number 66 among it’s peers in Africa? There’s need for Zambians to grow and mature in our thinking and reasoning.

  86. Could someone, please, tell me the beer that PF supporters take which make them incapable of reasoning coherently, judging from their weird discussions and name calling of the fine brain display on HH;s statement?

  87. Unprecedented ranting against HH for his individual opion on the matter are due to an epidemic of bembunesia, a malady for which there is no known cure.

  88. Unprecedented ranting against HH for his individual opinion on the matter are due to an epidemic of bembunesia, a malady for which a cure has not yet been found.

  89. Considering the role played by KK and fellow Zambians it was proper for thePresident to delegate KK and the VP to attend. Cyril and all serious South Africans know and acknowledge the role played by KK and Zambians in their past struggle. It therefore was relevant and important for KK to articulate as he did. He spoke very well indeed. He started the talks with the apartheid regime. He played the role of an influencer to both sides. It was relevant for him to refer to the Boers and the Boer party, the two should be seen to be different, and they were.
Zambia was well represented and the presence of both KK and the VP was well acknowlged at the funeral. I sat through the entire event. Had there been a big entourage the critics would have had something to say!

  90. I’ve just read South Africa’s Mail and Guardian and in it the paper extols Kenneth Kaunda and Joyce Banda’s speeches at Madiba’s funeral as having been better than Jacob Zuma’s

  91. HH is talking of Smith and Chikumbi etc. in what sense are they South African issues? Does he need history lessons or is he just confused because he was aged 17 at the time and has forgotten what was going on due to some unknown issues confusing his mind?

  92. So ngabaletambakofye pa t.v tatwaloseshe?. Bigger kufwayafye ka left hand kaishiba ifyo ka right hand ka doer?. Nike boasting angular Nike pompous papa campus?. NDABEJA.

  93. Ba HH, kano nga ebo, why this man condemns everything? So you ka HH you don’t see Zuma’s head? S you wanted to speak? Calibipa not given the platform………..

  94. HH is right. We watched and followed Mandela’s Funeral processions to detail. The best obituaries were eulogised by President Banda of Malawi, Tanzanian President and Mandela’s friend Ahmed.

As a mere mark of respect for KK he was allowed to speak, but the audience almost preferred to sink their heads in the sand but the concrete slab could not facilitate their wish to hide. The reason for this stems from the fact that the current Zambian President and his Vice-President Guy Scott have been on rampage to scorn South African leaders just to please their masters in UK. Yet Sata’s life was revived in South Africa through the auspices of the generous late Levy Mwanawasa.

The year 2014 will usher-in a new horizon for the PF regime in the SADC region. May God Hear Our Prayers.

  95. KK was called to speak by South Africa purely out of good gesture in his personal capacity with respect to the role he played in the liberation struggle. This had nothing to do with the current undiplomatic Zambian leadership. Its a shame which even members of PF are individually embarrassed with their sick leader.
KK was even reminded to cut short his speech because there was no planning and being old perhaps thought sick Sata was present. Sata has a peculiar disorder which makes him believe is a better person above the rest of world leaders. That is what happens when the rest of world leaders are at a funeral gathering, he thinks to be considered as a good person is to meet some rural small school girls at state house, not even at their school. Eccentric thinking.
