Govt completes pig slaughtering exercise on infected farms in Lusaka

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has announced that it has completed the slaughter of pigs on infected farms as part of the measures to control the African swine fever outbreak in Lusaka.

In a statement issued today, Director of Veterinary Services, Joseph Mubanga said the ministry has therefore relaxed the ban on pig movement by allowing regulated slaughter of pigs from farms within Lusaka Province for supply and consumption with effect from 14th January 2014.

And Dr. Mubanga has further disclosed that all livestock farmers and livestock processing plants should be registered with the department of veterinary to operate in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mubanga said all pigs for slaughter should be from registered farms only and should have a valid slaughter permit issued by the department of veterinary services.

He named the farms which have been registered and disinfected as Master Pork, Best Beef, Twikatane, Majoru, Real Meat and Kachema Meat Supplies.

    • @Saulosi, is that “a way to go” sprinkling blood of innocent pigs like that? Have you ever axed a pig, do you remember that sorrowful cry? Did you ever look in eyes of a dying pig, it sheds tears..
      And you enjoy that that you PF government, you just enjoy slaughtering things, and take phone videos to text to Sata of dying things.
