Ex-Zambia winger Chiwanki stabbed to death

Share

Red Arrows and ex-Zambia winger Chiwanki Liyainga has been stabbed to death by unknown people in Lusaka’s Chawama Township.

Police spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed on Tuesday that Liyainga, 30, was stabbed on Monday night and died hours later at the University Teaching Hospital.

“Chiwanki went to Kuku on Monday for a drink but got involved in a quarrel with someone who went to call for reinforcement,” Chanda said.

His younger brother is reported to have started the fight with the assailants.

“Chiwanki was then stabbed into the leg and ribs but managed to go to the police station where he got a medical report but sadly died at the UTH around 20h00,” she said.

He had just returned to Arrows this year after a loan spell at FAZ Division One South club Lusaka City Council.

Liyainga played for Zambia between 2004 and 2008 under coaches Patrick Phiri, Kalusha Bwalya and Herve Renard.

He also played for Power Dynamos and now defunct Young Arrows.

  1. Moral of the story, stop owing people money
Never heard of him as well

But I am sorry he lost his life in this way

    MHSRIP

    Thanks

  2. Footballers shouldn’t be dying in such a manner… na STD yabako fair. So sad indeed. The PF’s Lusaka. Chabipa umwaiche.

  3. Too bad to die in a painful way MHSRIP. Change the law first hospital or clinic then go to the police after you have been treated with medical report.

  4. MHSRIP – Makes one wonder, though. Could he have been saved if medical attention had been available urgently instead of spending time at the station for a police report?

  5. The STUPiDi.TY of FIRST GETTING A POLICE REPORT then going to HOSPITAL!!!!
Imwe ba CHIFITA, when will you understand that LIFE-SAVING TREATMENT COMES BEFORE STU>PID POLICE REPORTS?? This guy was influenced by the same, otherwise he might have been alive if he had attended to hospital earlier!!
Maybe just ask people to report to the MORGUE first to book a fridge, then the police station then hospital last, as chumbu has already fire medical staff!!

    • Sorry i forgot, First report to the cemetry to book a space, then the morgue etc etc, as it will obviously save everyone else the hassle of doing this after you are dead, the police can then sit down over ichikombe of chibuku to complete the report on your behalf!!

  6. Mushota are you a sadist? Stop fooling the dead.
Regarding where to start from. The process was already changed a person can either start with hospital then police or vice versa, unfortunately the police, health workers and the public are not well informed on this issue.
Sad for this tragic death, may God comfort the family of the departed.

  7. Chiwanki umwaiche wa ku Chilanga, Musamba township. Promising footballer as a young player cutting teeth at Parklands Secondary School and Chilanga Heroes. Together with Luka Lungu they sent Heroes to their maiden premiership. MYSRIP young man. Chilanga mourns with your family.

  8. Chabipa mwe Kuku is a very dangerous place I wonder how he found himself there. That’s a place where there’s no police post. People are beaten on a daily basis.

  9. Sad reading. Why do we still have to have someone that has life threatening injuries first report to the police? Thats vital time lost that could save a life. A friend died like that from head injuries sustained from a car accident because he was interogated at the police station without realizing that he needed to be rushed to the hospital first. And how many more lives have we lost to such high levels of negligence? How many more shall we lose at this hands of an old system that needs to be done away with? Arise our people and change this law if at all it is law.

  10. NEVER HEARD OF HIM, DONT CHEAT US THAT HE WAS A SOCCER PLAYER WHILST THE MAN WAS JUST A UPND CADRE, going after PF women. Its sad life is lost but those thugs including his young brother shud be brought to book, Why go for a drink in KUKU, what drink are we talking about here?

  11. In places were systems are in place this life could have been saved. Many a time people die in this country due to lack of working systems.
