THE Patriotic Front (PF) has condemned the regionalism and tribalism that characterised the just ended Katuba Constituency by election in Chibombo District.

Conceding defeat in an interview from Abuja, Nigeria yesterday, Katuba Constituency campaign manager Edgar Lungu said while UPND should be congratulated for winning the election, issues of regionalism and tribalism that were witnessed in Katuba must be condemned by all Zambians.

“We gave the process our best but issues of regionalism and tribalism carried the day.

“Let us learn from the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Rwanda and be mindful that regionalism and tribalism is a negative force which we should never embrace” said Mr Lungu who is also Defence minister.

But UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the victory by his party in Katuba was a vote of no confidence in the PF Government.

[pullquote]“You cannot say that people who live in Katuba are all Lenjes, all Zambians live there. That is just a mere excuse the PF gives when it loses,” he said.[/pullquote]

He refuted allegations of tribalism being cited by Mr Lungu saying this was the excuse the ruling party made whenever it lost elections.

“You cannot say that people who live in Katuba are all Lenjes, all Zambians live there. That is just a mere excuse the PF gives when it loses,” he said.

Former Katuba Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Jonas Shakafuswa has regained his seat after polling 4,781 votes against his closest rival Patriotic Front (PF)’s Moses Chilando’s 2,747 in a tightly-contested by-election.

Returning officer Mutandi Mwanamwalye declared Mr Shakafuswa winner at about 10:20 hours yesterday.

MMD candidate Cecil Holmes was third with 734 votes followed by National Restoration Party’s Joseph Mushalika who got 566 votes while the only female candidate Patricia Mwashingwele of the Alliance for Better Zambia polled 393 votes.

United National Independence Party (UNIP) candidate Friday Malawo got 124 votes while National Revolution Party representative Shakespeare Mwakamui only managed a paltry 23 votes.

Mr Shakafuswa was carried shoulder high by his jubilant supporters shortly after he was declared the duly elected candidate to regain the seat he lost to late former MP Patrick Chikusu in 2011.

  1. PF has just lost popularity, you can not blame regionalism and tribalism for your losing, Katuba is so close to Lusaka, it is just next to Matero constituency.

    • Who doesn’t know that PF is a tribal government ? 97% bosses in government are Bembas. In foreign service there is 99.1% Bembas.

The recent PF Lusaka district elections where only Bembas won by crook and hook are what you should be labelling as tribal.

Instead of doing an introspection and find out exactly what Sata and his party are doing wrong, they are fronting a regionalism and tribalism caveat. Well continue using tribalism against HH and UPND while HH will be concentrating on addressing real issues and wining hearts and minds of the people across all regions in Zambia.

When you lose concede with honour instead of blaming it on Mmembe s’ tribal mantra. If you continue relying on Mmembe and company as PF ‘s spin doctor then you continue losing one election after another…

    • then Zambia is ultimately a bemba country because 43% of the entire population is bemba.

yet bembas are accommodating, outgoing, embracing, they don’t even brag about their dominating numbers.

if it was some other tribe. it would have been catastrophe for the rest of the tribes. God has good reasons why He made it this way for Zambia

    • What about the Chililabombwe ward election? I didn’t know Chililabombwe is also part of Southern Province hehe lol

PF, you will only wake up when you see HH (Haleisa Haleisa) entering State House come 2016! You are too stubborn!

    • PF be warned that fronting tribalism as your campaign tool will damage your aprty big time ,because what this does is;it encourages people to begin to look at tribe when analysing the people to trust with the presidency.

Already ,who doesn’t know that Sata and the late Chiluba have misrepresented the Bembas as untrust worthy when it comes to governing and running the resources of our country? It s the same mood that gripped Zambia when Chiluba handed over to Mwanawasa after Bembas were deemed untrustworthy. So to recapture the MMD image, and give Mazoka a run for his votes, Chiluba endorsed a Lenje(Bantu botatwe) to pitch against Mazoka’s growing political influence.

The way forward fellow Zambians is to ignore Mmembe’s tribal slur as it will work against PF and Bembas big time.

    • @Old rugs

Sorry for generalising that Sata is Bemba, The right description I should have used for Chiluba and Sata is Bamwisa Bembas, because thats what they all are. Even KK was a Mwisabemba when they were not even ashamed to teach us fake history that KK was born in Chinsali! and he is Bemba.

But why so many rogues claim to be Bembas? Is it because Bembas are gullible in the name accommodating even scum bugs who tarnish their reputation big time. Congolese , Tanzanians and even Malawians will claim to be Bembas. This is not on. Bembas must sort their house in order otherwise a Mwisa will now be crowned the Chitimukulu under their very eyes.

Ukutemwa easy money my cousins kulaletelela.

    • PF, IT WAS LACK OF STRATEGY, WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING THE LIKES OF HH WHO KNOW VERY WELL RIDE ON TRIBALISM YOU ALSO FIELD A LOCAL, ONE OF THEIRS.

    • @ Wanzelu> Actually the key note speech was done by the yama to the winner Sata Mulenga. Guess what the massage was all about unit and done in Bamba, this is on record. The only reason he did that was the fact that only Bemba speaking people in that conference meeting matter to him and his umwipwa.

    • @mwaba: You are right, there is no tribalism and regionalism involved as alleged by the PF because Katuba is in Lusaka and just next to Matero, talk of Zani Muone, Kabangwe, it is all Lusaka and residents are neither Tongas nor Lenges, but all tribes. We are just fed up of the PF kind of Governance period.

    • In the recent Mansa by-election: CHILUFYA Chitalu PF 9,671 ; CHIKONDE Rosemary UPND 388 in November 2013. But Katuba gave PF Moze 2 700 votes. Which voters are more tribal those in Mansa or Katuba? Which parties do they represent?

    • I completely agree.PF actually has even improved in Katuba. In 2011 when Chikusu won they just got about 1000 votes and they(PF)were a distant third but this time they got about 2000 votes which means the party is slowly becoming popular in Katuba. It is MMD who lost this seat and not PF because last time(2011) MMD won it by a landslide and UPND was second. In a nutshell Katuba has never been PF it has always been leaning toward MMD and UPND so that win is not something any right thinking person should be celebrating.

    • Bantu Botatwe voting for each other. No brainer there no wonder HH was even campaigning in tribal lines by urging voters in Katuba not to vote for a foreigner(A fellow Zambian from another tribe apparently).Tribalism and regionalism will never end.

    • Yes tribalism no doubt ! Much as we can deny it but the reality is that Shakafuswa won because he was considered as their mwanawakwatu(their own son).

    • Yes regionalism and tribalism is rife in Zambia not only among the Southern and Western Provinces about all over Zambia.Let us take the past by elections that were conducted in the country as a yard stick.
      1) Mufumbwe-No other tribe participated as candidates apart from Kaondes.
      2) Solwezi East,-All Candidates here were all Kaondes
      3) Mkaika-All candidates there were Chewe/Tumbuka.
      4) Chipata Central-A mixture of Chewa and Ngoni-Lameck Mangani a Chewa with government backing lost because the Ngonis wanted their own Kin and Keith.
      5) Mpongwe-All the candidates who contested were Lambas.
      6) Lukulu-All the candidates who contested were of Western Province Origin.
From simple analysis you will find that all African politics vote on tribal lines. You go RSA,Ghana,Kenya,Nigeria its all…

    • Edgar, can you produce a list of cabinet , deputy ministers, PS and directors in GRZ. parastatal heads and foreign service staff and indicate the regions they come from. Once you analyse the list you will see how much of a hypocrite you are….

    • TRIBALISM AND REGIONALISM IS EXACTLY WHAT GOES ON IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE. IT IS NOW LESS IN WESTERN PROVINCE. HH HAS STAMPED TRIBALISM, RACISM AND REGIONALISM LOUD AND CLEAR. NO WONDER HE IS NOT FIT GTO BE A NATIONAL LEADER.

    • @Peter. There has never been any tribal voting in Western Province since the onset of multipartism. If anything Western Province is the only province in Zambia that is truly democratic and none tribal. People of Western Province have on many occasions opted to vote for other candidates even when their own is on the presidential ballot. In 2001 Western Province voted for Mazoka even when Inonge Lewanika was on the ballot. She came last. In 2011 the majority in Western Province went for RB, then HH, then Sata and a Westerner Milupi was last. So wena Peter shut up! Go focus on your tribalist province and leave us alone. In western Province we have 4 different parties representing us in Parliament. We are the only such province. Please Go focus on the tribalism that is reeking your region!

    • Peter since when has voting been tribal in Western Province? Please show us the pattern of tribal voting in Western Province? In 2001 Mazoka carried Western Province even when Inonge Lewanika was on the ballot. Inonge came last. In 2006 Levy carried Western Province even when HH was on the ballot. In 2011 RB carried Western Province. And a local Milupi came last; he even had less votes than HH and Sata. And by the way Western Province is the only province in Zambia to be represented in parliament by 4 different parties. My dear there’s true democracy in Western Province. Just go and tell your fellow tribalists in your Province to be like the people of Western Province! Peter you must hate Lozis for you to spread trash like this!

    • Why is that when a sit is won in Luapula, Northern and Muchinga by the PF no tribalism is mentioned. When is UPND going to be ‘given’ a sit in the above provinces and then we shall comment!

    • @abeenaaa!:

No one played a TRIBAL CARD in Chililabombwe! And you know why? Because Chililabombwe is cosmopolitan area where tribal politics are likely NOT to be received very well by voters. And UPND won without playing to the LOWEST human intuitions of TRIBALISM and REGIONALISM—that’s how it should be!

Now, can you tell me why HH found it necessary to appeal to TRIBAL sentiments in Katuba when UPND could have easily won Katuba without bringing in any tribal politics? By the way, if UPND can win an election in a place most folks in UPND have written off as “belonging to Bembas”, who then is being tribal here? People who can still vote for a UPND candidate, or folks who still think all PF chaps are Bembas who do NOT deserve a vote from Tongas and their kin? Think about it!

    • @Ze bigge Chichi:

And when did UPND ever seriously campaign in areas you have mentioned? Do you want people of Luapula, Northern and Muchinga to simply give UPND a sympathy vote even when they have not put up a credible candidate, or failed to explain themselves where they intend to take this country if elected into office?

I think what PF did in the Livingstone by-election is what UPND should emulate. PF walked into Sothern province with their heads high, campaigned vigorously and won in an area long believed to be UPND turf. These are the efforts UPND also needs to put up in places like Luapula, Northern, etc, if they really want to have a National Character.

By the way, a big Congrats to UPND in Tatuba—next time just do it without any appeals to such nonsense as TRIBE!

    • Wonder what excuse will be there WHEN & not IF you chaps lose all pending by-elections coz there is no way in hell you are winning them. Are you going to tout the same nonsense excuse of tribalism? All I know is that PF got wired, whether coz of tribalism or not, I DO NOT GIVE A TOSS! The important thing is a message has been sent that PF is on it’s way out. There is a new SI deducting NAPSA from miners salaries on top of the existing pension deduction. This means two deductions. PF do not understand that you never ever mess with a Miner’s salary coz so far I have heard that they are already PISSED. I would safely say that the copperbelt is leaving the PF building.

  2. That is what Fred Mmembe told them to say. Wait for Fred’s Editorial/ Lecture on Tribalism and Regionalism. Yet he keeps a very blind eye on the unprecedented tribal and regional nature of the PF and Govt from ministers to Pernsecs to CEOs of Parastatals to Foreign Service not forgetting Sata’s claim that brains are only found in Muchinga, Luapula and Northern provinces (maybe here he confused stealing with brains). Zambians are now very clever and know that it is just a political game Fred Mmembe plays so that whoever he prefers (now Bembas) continue ruling as they protect him from paying back what he owes. But this time, it is not just about the money he owes that is wrong every aspect of governance especially the debt PF is contracting recklessly and the constitution among others.

  3. I urge all compatriots to earnestly heed the warning and clarion call from Edgar Lungu…“Let us learn from the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Rwanda and be mindful that regionalism and tribalism is a negative force which we should never embrace”

Did you know that in the last election out of more than 1 million registered voters in Luapula (HH got 1 758) and Northern (HH got 2 935) Provinces less than 5 000 (five thousand) votes for HH. In fact Katuba constituency gave big Moze more votes than entire provinces gave HH. That is the severity of regionalism in Zambia. And the Bible is true, before you talk of a speck in your friend’s eye remove the log in thine eye.

    • Lungu is using scare tactics to stay in power. Zambians are not like any of those countries he mentioned. We would already have seen turmoil in the KK era. Stop the scare tactics chi Lungu and realize that you were beaten square and fair. The wind of change is blowing baba, no amount of scare tactics, bribes and intimidation works when the will of the people is at play. We do not want to see Ukwa flee the country like his Ukranian counterpart, we want him right here, he has too much to answer for.

  4. Thanks Edgar but you should be honest with yourself. When fire engulfs this country, it will not spare anyone. Who doesn’t know that president Sata has exhibited the worst kind of tribalism in this country? Bembas are the worst tribalists in this country. They regard themselves superior over other tribes. They would rather we all learn the language of thieves but are never willing to learn other languages. Look at the PF cabinet, Foreign Service, and other govt (constitutional) appointments. Sata has no shame whatsoever and to him tribalism is when a Tonga prefers a fellow Tonga and not when Bembas prefer him despite being a dictator, brainless(even the remains of Mwanawasa’s brain were far much superior to his nicotine tainted and shrinking full brain). Next time Edgar tell the whole…

    • Zambia is no like CAR.fighting on tribal grounds shall never happen in this country.those ‘threats by Edgar is a mess.if war was to beak in this nation, was between Kaunda and Chiluba succession.its now over long gone.viva democracy, viva Zambia.HH for president.let us try even the scape goat.

  5. Is this not tribalism? When we call you thieves you complain. Is Sata not the chief apostle of tribalism? Take the statistics in your cabinet and see how many of your type are there.

    • And take statistics of your Party and see how many UPND MPs you have allowed to serve in this Govt without threats of expulsion!

Let us be careful with this SEED called TRIBALISM we seem ill bent on WATERING and NURTURING. This country will end up totally REGIONALIZED and FRACTURED to a point of having tribal wars. By the way, how does folks like HH see themselves as President? How does he (HH) hope to govern a country that he is busy dividing into tribal and regional Bantustans? One would think people with presidential ambitions to one day govern all 73 tribes of this country would be the least inclined to promoting tribal/regional politics. Such politics may seem like a good strategy to win a few parliamentary seats here and there, but they are BAD for the psych of a Nation!

  6. It doesn’t just add up. where you win (e.g Mansa) you are popular! when you loose its tribalism. Your words are very careless and divisive. As long as as it is not Freddy’s way then its tribal. That was what was happening even on Kabimba. Now that GBM has been defeated, the tribal tag is off. Come on, you Can’t fool everyone.

    • Yeah, apparently you guys in UPND seem to be OK with Tribalism for as long as it advances your cause. Do you realize that when GBM won the Mansa elections, after his tribal remarks, UPND was in political alliance with PF and yet none of you people in UPND raised a finger to condemn GBM? Now that the alliance failed, all over a sudden what GBM did in Mansa was all because of PF tribalism. Really?

In fact, HH himself was at GBM’s house in Mansa celebrating GMB’s victory and said nothing to indicate that he detested GBM’s tribal sentiments. It is the same guy (HH) who has never said anything to distance himself from the tribal sentiments that brought him to the helm of the UPND presidency. It is such track record which makes people think that HH is very comfortable with Tribalism!

  7. Ba Edgar (PF) your lame excuse is an insult to us the katuba pipo, you should be thankful that you have improved from 1622 (susan mwelwa) in 2011 to 2747 (Big Moze). Moreover the vote turnover in 2011 was far much higher than last Tuesday’s by election. To me you are making inroad in katuba and the opposite is for MMD.

  8. Let them complete those universities in muchinga quickly oherwise when hh comes in they will be rendered white elephants

  9. When Winter was under pressure to resign from the party, he said PF was tribal and has never reversed his statement. So it is one tribal party accusing another “tribal party”

  10. If the loss is due to tribalism and regionalism, fine! This is what representative democracy entails. Tribes must be represented. Regions must be represented. It is constitutional! Zambia is not an autocratic, meritocratic, neither is it aristocratic! Zambia is a democratic nation. We must live with it.

The people of Katuba have practiced democracy. Bembas have always voted democratically, hence parties led by non-Bembas are never voted for in Bemba-speaking regions such as Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces. It is there right so to do! Other regions should ignore their tribes and regions at own peril. Zambia is for Zambians, Barotseland is for Rotses, and Central, Lusaka and Southern is for the Bantu-Botatwe – nothing wrong! Regionalism or Nationalism is not a malum in se!

    • @Maano

You have put better than I could have. I advise PF to seriously read between the lines in your blog and stop these lame excuses which will drive their party under ground completely.

  11. Why is regionalism n tribalism an issue wen u lose? wen u win in yo “regions” u call it popularity, shame on U….2016 will be regionalism of the whole country n u’l hv no region bcoz u’v decampaignd yoselves like mad pipo(subsidies, nurses, constitution, chitimukulu etc) n js givn Hetch Hetch enough amunition to pump sense in yo empty temples…(•_•)PFs face in 2016…

  12. It is only fair to have an MP from the particular area. This is not tribalism. All those who stood in Katuba are from the area so how can u say it is tribalism.PF needs to blame themselves for nominating wrongly and also learn to consult the people.Things are changing and if you dont move with time you will be left out.People anywhere are now able to comunicate with others so they know what is happening. We wait partiently for 2016 for the real campaign.

    • Spot on Bwana. More how do you expect me to win in Solwezi (for Example) where people don’t even know me. The issue of importing and imposing candidates on local people is what has brought development to stand still in this country. How do you bring an alien who does not even understand the needs of the local people? These are the same useless MPs that never even bother to visit their constituents because they have no business there.
LESSON ADOPTION OF CANDIDATES should not be ROYALTY based but POPULARITY. The message you keep on preaching to the people of Zambia (Tribalism/ regionalism)is divisive. The message from opposition was crystal clear, CONSTITUTION, FREE FALLING KWACHA, HIGH MEALIE MEAL PRICES ECT.
WHAT WAS YOUR MESSAGE AS PF?
You have lost big time and a better excuse

  13. Just a bunch of (HH) bantu botatwe cow boys voting for each other. Very tribal and regional. no wonder they are so backward, primitive and undeveloped. You thrive in poverty and you enjoy it. Pull the CDF out of that village

    • @Kudos

According to the ECZ results released on 26 th November 2013 **** CHILUFYA Chitalu PF 9,671
      CHIKONDE Rosemary UPND 388

Rosemary despite hailing from Luapula paid the price for associating with UPND. Who is more tribal?? And yet the ba Lenje batanshi gave your big Moses close to 3 000 votes, 10 times more than UPND could master in Luapula.

    • Kudos, your hatred will take you to your grave my dear. You will toss and turn in bitterness but to no avail. The Katuba people have spoken and i believe there are even other tribes that took part in voting so please learn to respect their wishes. Who are you by the way to judge them?

    • Did you vote for UPND in Mansa when during the by-election in Mansa? Uwawa tabulakabepesho. Wait for 2016. If Mpulungu local government by-election was a tie and you talk about Tribalism now? When PF wins there is no tribalism message and when you loose then tribalism comes in? Mwalabepesha abanenu. Zambia is one and when you cheated you cheated all Zambians and not one tribe bwana with your PF.

  14. PF is now insulting the Katuba constituency to be tribal, what a shame. What is the blame on the lose in Chililabombwe? Even there it was tribal, just watch the space. Fortunately MR Sata and your supporters hunger knows no tribe or region, the price of bunga is the same for all. Your failure to pay farmers affects everyone across board hence your lose of popularity. Remember lies takes a nation no where too.

  15. Ba Lungu, please stop being a useful idi0t! Regionalism and Tribalism was perpetuated by tribal PF when they attempted to imposed a bemba as an MP in an area which is predominately lenje speaking. Does it mean lenjes don’t have intelligent people to represent them? Why didn’t PF adopt a lenje candidate like most other parties did?

    • According to the ecz website, the whole of Luapula and Northern Province gave under 5 000 votes to UPND’s HH in 2011. from about 600 000 votes casts! Do you see the custodians of tribalism?

  16. Ba PF You’re blaming your loss on the same negative force of tribalism that you’ve been using to your advantage? Good,we’ve come full circle and now the shoe is on the PF foot.

  17. The loss is as a result of focusing on sturbonnes, boastifulness, not listening to advise, and the wrongs that are following PF every day. You have achieved a lot but you are not involving others. Not all parties opposing your views and acts are foolish just like not all people in PF are clever. You should listen and listen well to other views. Do not be too boastiful and pompus because what you are doing as party in power is what everyone expects you to do, to govern. Its a privilege that you may loose after one term in off if you stop being appealing. Watch out, even cold Nshima can burn you!

  18. @ Gen.
If Sata and Chiluba are what you call bamwisa Bembas then where do you get your statistics that Bembas constitute 43% of the Zambian population. Iam reliably informed that PF Katuba candidate is not even Bemba but from DRC. If you travel through the pedicle road till you reach Mwanawasa Bridge people speak what we call Bemba in Zambia but the language is called something else in DRC.

  19. Ba Edgar.. its over move forward.. and congratulate UPND with no reservations wheather tribalism or not time will tell.. also pick proper candidates next time

  20. When PF wins in northern or muchinga provinces its not regionalism and tribalism but when UPND wins in Katuba, it becomes tribalism and regionalism. Just concede quietly sha!!!

  21. I completely agree.PF actually has even improved in Katuba. In a nutshell Katuba has never been PF it has always been leaning toward MMD and UPND so that win is not something any right thinking person should be celebrating.UPND just claimed what has been theirs all along.

    • It is not about PF has gained this time around, it simply lost the election. Next time whether they lose by 2 votes to another party, it means they have lost the election period. Stop being childish.

    • Ba Saulosi

I like your honesty. The Lenjes have increased their votes given to PF. A Bemba anchored party.

According to the ecz website, the whole of Luapula and Northern Province gave under 5 000 votes to UPND’s HH in 2011. from about 600 000 votes casts!

Who are the custodians of tribalism between Bemba (Luapula and Northern) and Bantu botatwe (Southern and Central)?

  22. As expected Edgar Lungu has repeated Tribalism sentiments after losing Katuba. So PF ,Mmembe and Kabimba brought “TRIBALISM” concept which has divided us. Before PF, Zambians lived side by side. So UPND MPs + HH must work VERY HARD to decampain this evil tribalism so as to VOTE PF-OUT asap to re-unite and reconcile Zambia.

    • It is not even about tribalism in Katuba, if you care to find out, this area if full of farmers from different parts of Zambia. For Edgar Lungu to say it was tribalism is simply sour grapes, just congratulate Hon. Shakafuswa he earned his victory.

  23. take the GBM saga as an example……i have never admired he’s sort of politics but the moment he stood up and defended his Heritage and Culture,i respected and applauded him so much……alas, the shocker for me was one Dr. Nevers Mumba instead of just applauding GBM for the principled stance(which all of us zambians must emulate in defence of our culture),baMumba made a sweeping and frankly careless Tribalistic statement that ” GBM is the pride of us Bembas”.i was like WTF? Mumba is Bemba yes,but more importantly he’s the President of the MMD and as such can’t and should’nt make such retrogressive statements. Now imagine if HH had said so and so is the Pride of Tongas for resigning a Cabinet Portifolio in the PF regime? So indeed some tribes(Bembas) feel they have some supposed…

  24. You after years of discussing regional trade blocs like COMESA, journalists cannot still tell the difference between regionalism and regionalisation. Regionalism is the coming together of different countries to create a region body like COMESA or SADC, it can not be inferred to mean solidarity among groups of the same ethnic group or region, that would be loosely called regionalisation.

  25. I think the concepts of tribalism and regionalism have been misused, and deliberately so to further personal interest by those in power. Why is it only tribalism when UPND wins not when it is PF? Edgar Lungu, for me, is childish and useless as he is the one who can cause conflict he cited. No one owns victory or success.

  26. really pathetic and stupid for a minister to talk about tribalism in Zambia. this gvt is really dividing our nation and we should be careful. Zambians have always been united and live anywhere they want. instead this gvt should concentrate on things they promised to the people, constitution, jobs, hospitals etc I heard hh yesterday talking about these things

  27. Start drumming your Bemba tribalism drum bells and you will still kiss your smelly asses you PF pinheads. You have practiced tribalism openly. Is it not a joke that you can now start smearing that on other people, even when they are not tribal like you? Do you think that the rest of the country gives it a dumb much anymore about your Bemba tribal hegemony?
And this talk about ‘Bemba is not Bisa’ and ‘Bisa is not Bemba’ is all trash. Whom are you trying to hoodwink? Are you not all birds of same feathers?

  28. Bantu Botatwe voting for each other. No brainer there no wonder HH was even campaigning in tribal lines by urging voters in Katuba not to vote for a foreigner(A fellow Zambian from another tribe apparently)

    • @mwenya we mu Bemba. With or without Bantu Botatwe HH is headed for presidency come 2016.PF campaigned on the basis that they will bring development if you give them an MP. On the contrary whether opposition MP or not development must be undertaken to all the corners of the contrary. so this notion is no longer applicable in Zambia. People just vote for credible candidates.

  29. Wanzelu seems to alot of useless theories which he cannot substatiate.
To start with he says Sata is Bemba which is not true
about 90 % of bosses in the government are Bembas has he got a list of those
    What is he

  30. Who doesn’t know that PF is the most tribal govt Zed has ever knowm. PF is both violent and tribal and PF has been beaten clean. Next subject.

  31. Let the Post Newspaper continue writing tribal remarks on HH so that as UPND we could be more nourished than ever before. People are tired of hearing this from the enemies of HH.Whether Tonga or not HH is here to stay and will continue winning. That tribal tag being spearheaded by the post is the very strength helping HH to gain popularity as people knows that this is just a cheap propaganda aimed at blackmailing him.HH all the way…………….!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. @ Edigar Lungu “We gave the process our best but issues of regionalism and tribalism carried the day”. I do not know where the name Edgar is Female or Male name, What Lungu must realize is that PF came in power full of lies and if we go word by word people have came to realize that PF came in because we wanted to change for better when people have sat reason and realized that we were wrong. There is no issue of Regionalism and Tribalism in fact PF leadership must sit around the Table and find ways of apologize to the people of Zambia all the cheating you promised. The problem is that you are defending your mistakes and people have come to know that you are the worse of all the government who can not apologize and tell the truth cont…

    • @idah: Great point. Elected leader must be held accountable for what they promise the electorate, because it was on the basis of those promises that the electorate voted for them. The PF walked away from their promises the moment they were sworn into office. That is outrageous. It was a deception from the word go.

    • Should read: ‘elected leaders’ and not ‘elected leader’: @idah: Great point. Elected leaders must be held accountable for what they promise the electorate, because it was on the basis of those promises that the electorate voted for them. The PF walked away from their promises the moment they were sworn into office. That is outrageous. It was a deception from day one.

  33. NEVERS MUMBA SHOULD RESIGN AS MMD LEADER.
KATUBA IS A FORMER MMD SEAT BUT LOOK AT THE PALTRY 700 ODD VOTES GARNERED THERE.
NEVERS IS QUICKLY MAKING MMD IRRELEVANT LIKE UNIP AND THE LIKES OF ADD, FDD, NAREP, ABZ, MULONGOTI’S AND MANGANI’S AND MPOMBO’S.
ALL THESE PARTIES ARE A WASTE OF POLITICAL SPACE.

  34. In 2016 the worst is yet to come for P.F. From what I can see, the following provinces: Southern, Western, North western and Central (though it will be determined along the line of rail) will exercise their democratic rights by voting for their tribal cousins who they feel will carry their wishes and aspirations. Thus they will vote for H.H.and U.P.N.D. On the other hand, the Northern, Muchinga, Luapula and parts of the Eastern will be taken by P.F. Likewise the people from these regions will vote for their own as well for the sake of continuity. Lusaka central and the copper belt’ s major towns will be for grabs. These will go to the party that sells it’s manifesto to the masses correctly.

    • As I see it the main issues along the line of rail will be:

      1. People driven constitution
      2. Size of debt accumulated by PF
      3. Prudential use of tax payers money
      4. Fulfillment of the 90 days promises (more money, lower taxes, and more jobs)
      5. Strength of the Kwacha, level of interest rate and foreign reservers
      6. Freedom of information, association and seperation of powers
      7. Windfall tax

And this time round, PF will not easily dupe the people.

  35. We see the Leaders in the Bible who ascended on the throne with wrong motives never lasted long. I can not blame voters but I have come to learn that unless our Leadership bow down to God and confess of their mistakes then will PF stay Long.
In the Bible we find that some Kings led the Kingdom 3 months, 3 years, 20 years etc. This is a lesson to us, that God can not be fooled and can not be mocked.
The problem today people wants to change God to be their slave and servant when God is our Master and Lord of lords.
Let us learn from the Word of God and not blaming on Regionalism, Tribalism or nepotism. Not all tribes have that spirit but people have realized that you cheated them many things eg, Farming, transport, low prices, Constitution and many other things.

  36. If this is the only “lesson” Katuba Constituency Campaign Manager, Lungu can draw from the election results his party is truly doomed!

Don’t these people in PF understand (or even fathom) that for every “tribal” voter there are at least two (and maybe 10 or 20!) voters who care much more about high prices, broken promises, late fertilizer, and insults coming from government?

Sure Ba Lungu, go ahead and call your constituents in Katuba tribal and see how that helps!

  37. The people who attend these huge rallies are not voters I suppose. The real loser here is MMD. Someone needs to step aside so that MMD can get some mebers back.

  38. If you thought PF would win in this tribal land then you must be out of your mind. This win was expected because those people there in Katuba hate PF because they say it has too many bemba`s.PF also made a wrong decision when they fielded a candidate who doesn`t come from that area. Most of the people is that consituency are illiterates and illiterates are the most tribal. Some things will never change.

    • @Zebige. I disagree with you because Katuba is not full of rural dwellers as borders boundaries with matero, going to Zani muone, Kabangwe area.

    • Mind you there is no UPND in Luapula, Northern and Muchinga. The reason is imple because the these tribal regions will not allow UPND in their tribalistic regions! As simple as that!!

    • Can you please acquire some smarts before posting your crap. How do you see tribalism in Katuba, and not in Sata`s government?! The problem is that the majority of you people in PF you very low IQ.

  39. Shakas back at Parliament !!!! Am sure its not only UNPD celebrating this victory,
even Parliament Motel night patrons are also over joyed. More money muma purse.

  40. congetration ba upnd continue with the same spirit 2016 is for dont panic i and my family will stand and vote for u plus your families viva HH bye bye pf remember after that u will answer some cases of corruptions

  41. Lies have a way of embarrassing those who tell them because lies are costly to maintain. On the other hand, truth has a way of coming out, no matter how long or how much suppressed, to vindicate those on whom lies are told. The tribal tag on HH has lost its power in poisoning the minds of the Zambian populace against him. Instead real tribalists are being exposed and therefore known.

  42. Hon Edgar Lungu, MP, I urge you to grow up politically. When the people of Zambia were saying your PF Party is promoting tribalism and that it was Bemba, you arrogantly denied that even when it is evident that 99% of Ministers, Diplomats, PSs, CEOs under the PF are all Bembas. Now that Katuba has given you your own medicine, you cry foul, shame on you. Let me tell you Edgar, no single tribe in Zambia, not even the Bembas who claim to be most populous in Zambia can rule this country without the assistance from other tribes. This is why the state of affairs are failing under the PF. It utopian thinking believing that Bembas can solely make it all by themselves. Watch 2016 how the PF will crumble because the PF has opened the eyes of the other 72 tribes minus Bembas to ……

    • Sifuniso,
you have said it well. The TRIBAL TAGGING of others calling them 2nd class citizens is a PF failed project together with Mmembe, Kabimba, Scott to malign others to continue in power even when they are useless.

  43. i agree with edgar lungu. tribalism and regionalism has caused meali meal to go sky high, fuel hikes, food increases, constitutional crisis, failure of the 90days promises, and cadre violence. surely, i must agree with lungu.

    thank you very much indeed

  44. …. form regional voting blocks in Zambia. You, Mr Minister and your Party started this regionalism and tribal politics in Zambia. Posterity will judge you harshly because you refused to listen to advice . A , stitch in time serves nine, but its too late now for you. You have to reap what you sowed come 2016.

  45. Am also suprised that Chililabombwe and Mufulira on the C/belt is now part of southern province. I come from Northern prov. But becoz of the wind of change – Revolution, I will vote for HH and upnd candidates.

  46. hahahaha Edgar in denial, look at the trend, forgive Edgar his heart will be hardened
with that reason until 2016, PF support is slowly eroding away, life is becoming difficult under PF, Chikwanda is getting addicted to debt again,

  47. Typical eastern useful idyot doing the work of his northern Mbuyas. These are the same people who stabbed one of their own, RB in the back despite the fact that he was doing a far better job than this incontinent full from Muchinga.

  48. I have never been more conscious of my tribe and mother tongue until PF got into power. Prior to that I considered myself Zambian full stop. So who is to blame?

  49. Voting has lost it’s essence. Why should it be there when the reason for it is not realised. We have continued voting but our standard of living has not improved even a bit.Sheer waste of time and energy!!!

  50. Bembas are just dull. It takes a bemba about 4Yrs to learn any other language in Zambia and about 15 yrs just to pronounce tonga words correctly. It took me only 3 months to learn bemba in Kabwe. To you bembas, enjoy to be in power now coz once a Tonga rules Zambia even if it takes a 100 yrs, people will see a need not to ever vote for your kind. If you play the tribe card everone else will eventually start that game. Its only you who will lose.

    • It should not matter where one comes from, what Zambia needs is a person who will get a team of serious and disciplined individuals to effect real and positive change.

    • @storm even me i speak Bemba easily I think it’s a very easy language.Your last paragraph is not welcome on tribe, may want try tongas for president but such worrying sentiments sends wrong signals.Tribal remarks should be discouraged in our nation.Even us kaondes want to be presidents at some point.

  51. I am a muBemba, I am yet to record political benefits for the tribal stripe. I don’t know any other Bemba with no political aspiration who benefited. Stop locking us in a tribal kasalanga as if we are all one privileged family eating the national cake alone. Many of us are being insulted for nothing we chose. I did not choose to be a muBemba and neither did you to be your tribe. So cut the tribal crap.

Now regarding what HH meant when he used the term “foreigner.” He did not mean it in the tribal sense. Rather he mean one NOT from the area, someone not familiar with local concerns. Specifically, imposing candidates from outside the area. Let local people represent themselves. Don’t tell them they are incompetent by imposing on them somebody with a steep learning curve.

  52. POPOPOPOPO….yes mulukehile . Congrats Hon Shakas… now lets go for the big one in 2016 .I hear another formulae called katuba formulae has arisen. The revolution has began and nothing will stop it…. once more congrats Hon shakas. !!!

  53. A person who farms is called a farmer, a person who sells is called a seller, a person who writes on tribalism everyday in his editorial is obviously called a tribalist!

  54. Wanzelu

You are very right. Ba Mwisa bembas, the likes of Sata and Chiluba, and most witches from luapula, are the most tribalistic! Luapulans are supposed to be Linda’s, numbs hush is but alas, they call themselves bembas. I wonder what goes in there shallow brains, evil minded nincompoops! All along, Tongans lenjesand ilas have been voting for them such as the Kaunda and Chiluba. What a bunch of fools! Bythe way, bantubotatwe are among the richest zedians but don’t go on anti hill fooling about it.

    Pathetic pretenders!

    • When Sata visits Zambian embassies like those in Sweden, Italy, South Africa, DRC, Kenya etc he should not address them as ‘Zambians’, but simply as ‘fellow Bembas’

  55. Nkomesha ..your comment is the worst on this page, please be objective, here in Livingstone we have been welcome and we feel at home.PF learn from Katuba and stop the experiments and speech on tribalism…,I spoke to a friend in PF to ask where they lost it in Katuba,he said some senior party officials who they named where trying to cause harm by doing wrong things e.g wrong candidate, bad language etc .Winter was surprisingly absent in katuba, why? Put your house in order and take advise,,governing is a complex business..

  56. The oppostion had an isue based campain. They promised the ellectorate what the pf has failed to bring that is what they want. The constitution, recognition of chitimukulu, subsidies. There is nothing today that can make one vote for pf. Come the next biellection.
