Opposition UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has instructed his MPs to continue disrupting parliamentary proceedings in demand for a new constitution.

Mr. Hichilema said if the proposed meeting by Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini for all MPs on Tuesday fails to chart a way forward on the constitution making process, all MP’s should continue to boycott business in the house.

He told a media briefing in Lusaka Sunday morning that the stance taken by the MPs is commendable and nationalistic.

Mr Hichilema also demanded that UPND Councilors should also join the protest by disrupting proceedings in the council chamber.

The UPND leader said his party supports the move taken by MPs and vowed that the UPND will join the Grand Coalition pushing for the new constitution.

Mr Hichilema also said his party will go ahead with planned demonstrations despite Police refusing to grant the opposition party a permit.

He also charged that Dr. Matibini is struggling to provide leadership in parliament due to interference on the legislature by the executive.

He further disclosed that UPND will give logistical support to demands for a new constitution should the Tuesday meeting fail to yield any positive results.

    • Sata is a president of confusion. PF is a party of confusion. All this confusion can be avoided simply by giving the people the constitution that they deserve. Simple!!!

    • @saulosi, we know you lick PF leader’s rectum. Thats why your comments are biased towards PF. You have sold your soul to the devil young as.s.

    • UPND on total self destruction mode appears to be the only solution.

does this boy understand the consequences of his political shenanigan?

His acts and that of his MPs will not yield them the constitution. in fact they can even add their wives to deny them sex, PF will not yield to their political deviousness.

  1. That’s the way to go… The PF government on its own is determined not to give Zambia a new constitution. They have felt how sweet state power is..

  2. Our lions in Zambia are finishing because white farmers are breeding them for trophy hunters! Each Lion is sold for $50000 and one farmer on Mumbwa road fifteen kilometres from Lusaka has forty lions you do the Maths? How much of that money is going to our government in tax if any?

    • MPS Demonstrate only on issues of their own future benefit. where you see them is where their interests are. Not the interest of a common Zambian.

    • I agree with you. If these guys really cared about Zambia, the should have put up a stronger fight to block increasing the borrowing threshold for domestic loans. The are fighting for this constitution because of the 50%+1 clause. Very selfsish indeed. I wish they can all be struck to death. They are ignoring very important things that are happening at the moment just because the 50%+1 clause in the new constitution will favor them.

  3. What will happen on Tuesday if the entire team of opposition repeat of the last week behavior in parliament? Will the speaker call on the president to dissolve the seats for the opposition?

What will happen if all the opposition MPs will be manhandled by the Police and Paramilitary?

  4. I ask the PF to treat the opposition with the attitude they deserve.Kiddy gloves won’t help the situation.Until the president finishes reading the constitution,we all wait.Home affairs prepare marking sheets for your lilayi boys will be on Job on training come Tuesday .

  5. We love peace and we re not going to take kindly to these herdsmen disturbing it. If ZP needs help to sort them out, l am ready to fly in at my cost and gladly help. bays sana bangwele

  6. Sata is a very selfish man. Why should HH or any other opposition party for that matter wait to be given a police permit which SATA himself never obtained neither did he ask for it when he was in opposition?
Surely “power corrupts” this is the reason why we need a constitution, a new one which will curb some of these loopholes in the old constitution which these selfish chaps are using for their own selfish ends. We have to stop this nonsense of one man bulldozing the majority of Zambians including MPs. This is not on. we can not all be quacks.

  7. Two thirds counts only those present in parliament. So business will continue even without one provincial MPs.

  8. Kindly help me understand this constitution issue. Is the PF that is supposed to release the draft or the Technical Committee?

  9. WE EXPECT TO SEE MPS PUT UP SUCH PRESSURE TO GET PF TO CREATE JOBS FOR THE UNEMPLOYED, THE FACT THAT THEY ARE JUST FOCUSED ON THE CONSTITUTION’S 50%+1 MEANS IT’S ALL ABOUT THEM MPS AND HH COMING INTO POWER. THEY ARE USING INNOCENT PEOPLE TO ACHIEVE THEIR PERSONAL AMBITIONS. WHEN THEY DO DEMOS IT’S THE INNOCENT PEOPLE THAT GET HURT NOT THEM, THEY’LL BE IN THEIR OFFICES SIPPING TEA AND SOME AT SHAKA’S KRAAL DRINKING. SOME CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS AND SOME CHURCHES ARE ALSO CAMPAIGNING FOR HH BECAUSE THEY FAIL OUT OF FAVOUR WITH PF AFTER MMD LOST.

  10. The Constitution will be out but not with ma rubish 50+1 which is costly and waste of time and a catalyst to tribalism and regionalism. Abush! 50+1 Zambia is poor for re-runs which we can avoid.

  11. 50%+1 is the only hope HH has of getting into power even if it means disrupting parliamentary proceedings and council meetings and carrying out illegal demos. Other people are just being used.

  12. @ifontini: 2third of 160 Mps is 106. Ba pf baba less than 80. Now, if you think business will continue, why didnt it continue on those 2disrupted days? @saulosi: This era is not 1964 when our fathers fought primitive whites with stones & pangas, no. You can can only fight disorder by using disorder. Eg. Libya, Egypt, Sudan, C.A.R, Ucrane etc.
