Council driver arrested after trying to overtake the Vice President convoy

Share

A DRIVER working for the Livingstone City Council was yesterday arrested for trying to overtake a convoy carrying Vice President Guy Scott.

The driver has since been charged with dangerous driving and he will appear in court soon.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police Mary Chikwanda confirmed in an interview yesterday that Osman Mangwato, 34,was arrested yesterday after he tried to overtake Dr Scott’s convoy.

Ms Chikwanda said Mr Mangwato had been charged with dangerous driving and he would appear in court soon.

“Mr Mangwato’s vehicle was moving at a fast speed and almost bushed my car. We tried to stop him but he could not and he was later arrested after his vehicle bashed the Vice President’s convoy,” Ms Chikwanda said.

A reliable source within Livingstone City Council said Mr Mangwato was carrying a team of protocol officers and he was rushing to where Dr Scott was going to enable him arrive at the destination before the Vice President.

Dr Scott is today (Monday) expected to officiate at a regional conference on corruption for Directors of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

    • Cheeky, overtaking the Vice president is nothing short of
asking Mrs Scott out when you know she is married

Jail him at least 30 years with hard labour

      Thanks

    • @The guy was rushing people (his bosses) to the destination Scott was going. He might have been instructed to rush by his bosses and he obeyed. Poor man, your children will have no food today, and those protocol offices will say you did it on your own.

  1. and who said Doty Scot cant be overtaken? as stupid as he is, who would wait to drive at his Camereon pace

    • @King Fisher, you are the one who is stupid for thinking like that. You should respect those in authority iwe cipuba.

    • Respect authority my foot! Small people have to request ‘permission’ from police to conduct a political campaign when it is a constitutional guarantee. Docile morons!

  2. And we deceive ourselves with the notion that they are our servants. & yet….
Is it a traffic offense to over take our vice President?? Its a very honest question wanting to be helped to know?? Cap??

  3. The YOUNG MAN IS USELESS , SURE YOU DONT KNOW THE LAWS WHENEVER AN OFFICIAL (VEHILCE CARRYING ZAMBIA’S FLAG) NEVER OVERTAKE AND IF U ARE INFRONT , PARK UR KA WIRE EVEN IF U ARE CARRYING A COFFIN PARK KA WIRE AND let BOMA PASS. if he is PF forgive him but from the opposition LONGANI

    • This is the very reason most senior leaders in Zambia drive from the opposite side when there is a lot of traffic in the morning or evenings! I feel like following them!

  4. Some animals are MORE EQUAL than others!

Does this Scot animal own Zambias roads?

All Zambians (who paid for the roads with their taxes!) have equal rights to use them.

    • This is why we want a people driven constitution and not a animal driven one like the one we have now were some animals are more equal than others kikikikikikikiii..

  5. Convoy was refusing to be overtaken otherwise this is utter nonsense!
We have driven in other countries and you would not know someone in Authority is within traffic.
Why should business come to a halt just because one homosapien is passing?
    This is primitive!

  6. Iwee kamushota! I told u to try n get a boyfriend or better still a husband n stop posting useless comments on LT

  7. So wat hapns wen mr vps conveyz moving at 80 in a 120 zone, its rubbish to think that jst coz u voted him in power u can’t overtake him,.essenc z nt to slow him down in congested areas

  8. I overtook in order to reach ahead of the Veep in time to welcome him. Otherwise if the Veep were to reach first, he would be the one to welcome me! And this is to me is worse than overtaking. As you know, protocol officers are meant to welcome the big guys, and not the other way round – no matter how late. And the veep should consider swapping his cars with mine; I can’t believe how his fleet seemed as if parked as I revved past!
