UPND victory in Katuba not a revolutionary, infact PF has improved-Guy Scott

VICE President Dr. Guy Scott
VICE President Dr. Guy Scott

VICE-President Guy Scott has urged Patriotic Front (PF) members to move on and avoid being despondent following the ruling party’s loss during the just-ended Katuba parliamentary by-election.

Dr Scott said PF members should not start worrying about the defeat in Katuba, which was won by United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Jonas Shakafuswa, because the seat was not previously held by the ruling party but by MMD.

He said it was incorrect for the opposition to insinuate that UPND’s victory in Katuba was a revolution because PF performed better compared to 2011 when the ruling party came third after MMD and UPND in the same area.

Dr Scott was speaking in Livingstone on Sunday evening at the Civic Centre when he addressed PF supporters.

“As I was driving in Lusaka, one man shouted that ‘we have won Katuba and the revolution is here’. How can that be a revolution for just one parliamentary seat out of 158 Members of Parliament (MPs)?” Dr Scott said.

He said political parties had to fight a lot to keep their positions like it was in the case for United National Independence Party (UNIP) and MMD which stayed in power for 27 and 20 years respectively.

He urged Zambians and PF members to have more patience with PF because the ruling party was only about two and half years in power.

Speaking earlier at the same meeting, Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe asked PF members who were weak and faint hearted to leave the party.

And PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has said electoral indicators since 2011 have shown that the ruling party was still growing strong despite losing the recent Katuba by-election.

Mr Kabimba also called on party members, especially Cabinet ministers, to understand the PF manifesto in order to understand the party’s vision for the country.

“This has been President Sata’s directive, we should read and understand the PF manifesto. Everyone in the party structures especially Cabinet ministers should do that,” Mr Kabimba said.
He said the PF membership across the country had the duty to ensure that the ruling party delivered to the Zambians based on its manifesto.

Mr Kabimba said out of the 19 parliamentary by-elections held since 2011, PF had won 10, UPND had managed six victories while the MMD managed to win three.

Mr Kabimba said the PF had so far won 91 local government elections out of 127 held since 2011 followed by the MMD with 22 seats while UPND got 14.

Mr Kabimba said during the Sunday Interview programme on ZNBC that UPND scooped the seat based on tribal campaigns, which he strongly denounced as divisive politicking.

He said Mr Shakafuswa’s victory was a fluke, especially that it was anchored on tribal campaign technique.

“It was a tribal vote and nothing else. Nowhere did you ever hear a campaign message of saying don’t vote for PF because PF has failed to deliver because that wouldn’t have startled anybody because we are delivering. So the easiest message was vote for your tribesman,” Mr Kabimba said.

He said Zambia was a democratic country and that democracy entailed a popularity contest among political parties and that the Katuba by-election dispelled the allegations of vote rigging by the opposition.

He urged peace-loving Zambians to denounce tribalism as it was a recipe for civil strife, wrong, anti-Zambian, not nationalistic and that a tribal tramp card could not be used to measure the leadership qualities of an individual.

  1. BA Kabimba lick your wound and move on. Distorting the truth won’t help you win elections. You were beaten clean and you need to go back to the drawing board and address people’s concerns

    • come on Scot get over it katuba should be water under ther bridge,,,, Talk about the hot issue of the moment the constitution,,,, i thought Scot was a Dr, kupusa!!!

    • it could be a revolution only if the meaning of a revolution has changed.

of course describing the katuba win as a revolution only goes to show the inflated self destruction ego-trip of the tribal and regional party its on.

Govt is in control and working to deliver on it promises including the constitution.

      we are all sleeping peacefully…..

    • UPND VICTORY IN KATUBA IN FACT EMPHASISES HOW DEEPLY-ROOTED TRIBALISM, REGIONALISM, (AND RACISM) ARE. IT GIVES MORE THAN A HINT HOW HH CAN DESTROY THIS COUNTRY ONCE LET LOOSE TO EVEN BECOME NATIONAL LEADER. THIS MAKES ME WONDER WHY TRIBALISM, REGIONALISM AND RACISM ARE NOT OUTLAWED IN THE NEW DRAFT CONSTITUTION. THIS VICES MUST BE OUTLAWED IN ZAMBIA, OTHERWISE THE LIKES OF HH WHO SURVIVE ON THEM WILL IN THE NEAR FUTURE USE THEM TO DESTROY THE COUNTRY. (TUFILILE MU NSENGA)- THIS IS BECAUSE HH HAS EVEN CONVINCED HIMSELF THAT HE CAN NEVER WIN AN ELECTION OUTSIDE SOUTHERN PROVINCE AND HENCE PRESIDENTIAL. SO, HE’S GOT NOTHING TO LOSE POLITICALLY. AS AT NOW EVEN A DOG CAN COME OUT NUMBER TWO NATIONALLY IN TERMS OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS AND HH ON THE TAIL OF RESULTS. THE CHAP IS USELESS.

    • Scott has said exactly what i said a few days ago here.Yes PF has doubled the number of votes they got in Katuba in 2011.The loss is MMD`s.Awesome !

    • DON’T BLAME THE ELECTORATE FOR ELECTING SHAKAFUSWA ON TRIBAL LINES. ZAMBIANS ARE STILL VERY POVERT-STRIKEN. MOSTLY THEY CAN BE EASILYFOOLED BY SIMPLE DURING-THE-ELECTIONS HAND OUTS TO VOTE FOR A WRONG CANDIDATE. LIKE IN THIS CASE THE WOMAN SLAUGHTER.

    • HH was busy urging people in Katuba not to vote for Chilando the PF candidate because he doesn’t come from that tribe in Katuba. He was urging them to vote for Shakafuswa instead because he is their tribesmen.Shows how tribal and pathetic UPND is.

    • KATUBA SEAT

PF gaining ground in bantu botatwe territory

    • @Peter
There is a caps lock button on the keyboard that can be turned on or off. If you press it and it shows a light then it is on and press it again then it turns off.

    • @Ndobo this scote you keep teasing is not a small boy he is a doctor in mathematics,He oughts to encourage his party cadres hence his remarks.

    • Typical PF VP and bloggers.

Always myopic and choosing to put on blinkers instead of looking at the bigger picture.

The significance of the “KATUBA Victory” is not about Katuba alone. UPND is entrenching itself in Luanshya, (proving that Namulambe’s actually rigged the ‘MP- ship’), sneaking into Chililabombwe, AND in MPULUNGU (very ground breaking losing by 2 votes!!!!!).

Simply put – the tide in Central and CB, and Zambia is shifting very fast.

    • Scott is 100 % right. Those tribalists(UPND) won because the vote was along tribal lines. What a pathetic party.

    • Scott is 100% correct.I completely agree that the voting in Katuba was along tribal lines in Katuba.UPND sucks.

    • “Kabimba also called on party members, especially Cabinet ministers, to understand the PF manifesto” !!!!

Do you mean that nearly THREE YEARS after being elected they have still not even read your OWN MANIFESTO?????

Maybe YOU have not even read it, considering your stupid remarks on the Constitution!

YOU should read your manifesto! Useless PF MPs!

    • Anyone who thinks Shakas won the Katuba by-election NOT based on tribal sentiments is living in dangerous DENIAL. Tolerating the tribal campaigning by UPND in Katuba is only a recipe for trouble ahead.

Not even Sata who folks in UPND like to point to in defense of their Tribal inclinations has ever campaigned so blatantly on tribal lines. Yes, Sata has said some very incentive things about other tribes in the past, but you will be hard pressed to accuse him of shamelessly appealing to his tribesmen/women to base their vote on tribal kinships.

Even in the case of GBM’s tribal remarks in the Mansa Central elections, UPND was in an alliance with the PF, yet they (UPND folks) SAID NOTHING to condemn GBM—conclusion, UPND is very comfortable with tribalism. And it is showing!

    • UPND will always be tribal. What do you expect when even the appointment of HH as president of the party was tribal ? The president of UPND should have been Sikota Wina but unfortunately he wasn`t Tonga

    • @The Engineer(Australia), Dr Guy Scott spoke as politician who has to take a stance in political matters. Remember politics is a game of numbers and is a competition for power and control.

So his statement is right within his ambit of operation. WHO IS THE CHIPUBA here? Why are you annoyed to that extent? Simunawine?

      UBUPUBA… PA…AUSSIE?

    • ba PF tribal politics will not take you anywhere. Just accept that you lost the Katuba elections because of your lies. You also lost because you wanted to impose a bemba as an MP in a predominately lenje area…..what did you expect to achieve? Your opponents of course capitalised on that weakness and exploited it. It’s politics bane. UPND lost the Livingstone seat because they imposed a foreign candidate and they didn’t cry tribalism when PF campaigned by highlighting that fact.
In Katuba, Nevers Mumba used the same tactic HH used to appeal to the voters to support a local candidate and no one called him a tribalist.
Bane politics can be tough if you don’t know how to satisfy peoples expectations.

    • To be quite honest, in terms of development all of us would prefer a representative that belongs to our tribe, to oversee the affairs that impact our daily lives. This is perfectly human that you would prefer someone from your region over and above a foreigner. In any case UPND won Katuba due to the failures and disappointments of PF. And provided PF carry on the way they are ruling, UPND will penerate the Bemba lands very soon. This is not tribal, its the mood of the nation.

  2. Interestingly cynical coming from the VP.
How sad and well done for continuing to update the Zambian populous, though I would have preferred your statement in my vernacular language and also translated into all other languages since you prefer to educate the Zambians in local languages
    Thanks

  3. LT why do you call Guy Scott a vice president? He is not considered for that position when Sata is there or not.Alexander Chikwanda is the vice president. Not muzungu opusa.

  4. Overating yourself is the biggest mistake one can ever make.Mark my words, someone is going to die soon after 2016 elections because of the defeat. We have seen that before and we’ll se it again.

    • We have seen people dying after losing elections. That’s exactly what’s going to happen to HH,he will die of depression. The guy is full of himself,I really feel sorry for him.PF is going to win again in 2016 and they will have many MPs because MMD will not perform the way it did in the last elections.

  5. If you think the win was based on tribalism bring the bye elections currently held by UPND rebel MPs and adopt the same MPs against the might UPND and see how you will be walloped.

    • @Mylon Hankoli:

Winning seats in areas UPND is expected to do well can hardly be seen as MIGHTY!

Do a “Livingstone” on PF or MMD in Mwense or Petauke, and people might take you seriously. For now, you will do well to term your overly-inflated enthusiasm. Just saying!!!!

  6. Petty issues ba VP; yes it can only be revolution if its PF. We know how you think that you are not objective, but partisan; its cheap politicking! bring in real critical issues of constitution and provide leadership in that direction.

    Thank you.

    • e.k yu a rotten in yo head.how would feel if HH become president in 2016.yu would die of hate.i have survived the shock when sata won.Now i know everything is posible.

  7. The old man Veep can amazingly produce such big liars in public. God forbid, save Zambia from these pf thugs.
    VIVA UPND VIVA HH.
    Zambia forward.

  8. If blogging was voting, upnd would be in state house by now, reality is,talk is what you blogers here do best.Come 2016 pf will win again and you will continue crying.I was a UPND member under AKM not this loud for nothing upnd.I can bet my annual net income,pf will win 2016.

    • Come out of lala land BKB. Who are blowing the tribal trampet? Is it PF or Upnd? Would PF allow a Nkoya to stand or let alone win elections in Northern, Luapula and Muchinga? Let us be realistic in our approach on this subject of tribalism. What tribe predominantly features in the foreign service. Is that particular tribe the only most intellegent for them to take up almost all vacancies?

  9. Mr.Scott.Please be objective.PF is the ruling party which was expected to win. Therefore if a ruling party loses one should be worried.look at the geographical location of Katuba. It means that Lusaka is gone. You guys you waste alot of time on useless issues as Govt can u please deliver to the people.Let the development you bring talk for you.We want you to help the poor masses improve the standard of life in our country.Learn to listen to various parties. It is really bad that you can not even organise an inter party meeting so that you embrace one another.Viva UPND

    • You lie if the ruling party is expected to win then MMD was expected. Get to under stand democracy, it is about numbers. See how PF is increasing its numbers in your regional strongholds. That is not the case of your UPND party they had less than 500 votes in Mansa! UPND will never win the Presidency of the Republic you lack national character. I personally see your UPND party as a party of racists, tribalists and made up of power angry individuals.

    • BKB 1. what is tribalism? 2. What is racism? and What is to be power hungry? I’m sure that’s what you meant by power angry.

    • @S.K:

      1) Racism is what HH thinks of white people like V.P. Scott.
      2) Tribalism is what HH thinks of other Zambian tribes, especially Bembas
      3) Power hungry is what HH’s (I am better than anyone else and was born to be…) kind rotten attitude.

So @S.K., if you want to know the definitions of all three, just turn around and take a GOOD LONG LOOK at HH—he is the embodiment of all three vices!!!

  10. This Katuba thing must have been too painful for Ba guy to get over and let go.
These PF chaps are just stiff necked!
They know it all and their fall won’t be long.
    Carry on.

  11. I get surprised when people fail to analyse and critic certain clear situations. Mr Scot and Mr Kabimba should be made aware that almost all the by elections where created in opposition strong holds with the intention for the PF to increase numbers in parliament. The only by election in a PF strong hold lead to a loss of a seat for PF. This for me is a strong signal to them that if more by elections hit there strong holds it will be very bad for them. Remember PF rode on the urban vote and this is the most unloyal and unstable vote to rely on. Watch this space!

    • It cant be better than you have put it! Let them cause a by-election in Lusaka they will believe that their liars have finished them.

  12. If Doctors reason like the one quoted, then the title has lost respect,These yokes has been talking about Katuba at any given chance,Why didnt you celebrate your margin then if you claim to have done better?

  13. How could you win after your president told Katuba that Pf Has useless MPs? & if the tail is useless what more the head?

  14. Let’s get back to the drawing board Guy. UPND is a non-factor on the political scene. Watch out for the fresh bloods like Chipimo in 2016. Congratulations to UPND but that win was pure Bantu-botatwe region oriented.

    • Typical PF VP and bloggers. Continue hiding your heads in the sand

    • Agreed. That is the reason why every PF Tom, Dick and Harry always mention HH. Right? Or, this PF Tom, Dick and Harry are homos which are in love with HH?

  15. Muzungu wu Pusa!!!!! Guy has simply outlived his usefulness no wonder why he has never acted as President.

“He urged peace-loving Zambians to denounce tribalism as it was a recipe for civil strife, wrong, anti-Zambian, not nationalistic and that a tribal tramp card could not be used to measure the leadership qualities of an individual.”
What was tribal about Katuba By Election? He is always talking about tribalism wrongly ignoring the real tribalism in the PF govt. Guy you are really a useful i.di.ot.

    • I thought it was common knowledge.Even sakwiba couldn’t succeed Mazoka hence he left the party for tongas.

  16. am worried about the issue of tribalism in pf.if we are not careful pf wil plunge this country into chaos with their tribal tag all the time.pf chaps are preoccupied with tribe,no wonder all appointments are based on tribe. pf merit is based on tribe.sole william

  17. Scott is a useless racist & colonialist who loves to see pain on our faces, his behavior is not consistent with that of a well meaning muzungu, i agree with some blogger who says “ichipuba cha musungu”

  18. Countrymen and women,
Tribal this, tribal that, trabalism here, tribalism there, is all that is left in PF’s vocabulary. They can’t talk abt more money in people’s pockets, the constitution, cheaper fuel, cheaper mealie meal etc…
    Suggestion as a UPND follower;
Let us(UPND) have weekly Radio and TV shows to compare PF’s campaign promises Vs delivery, a section in newspapers making the same comparison so that the electorate can judge whether we have the right and honest people in the offices currently occupied by the PF

    • I really hope the UPND adminstration will for once PAY ATTENTION and seize this brilliant and practical advice.

Rather than having HH always issuing press statement this and press statement that, let UPND get PRACTICAL and engage with the voters by having the programmes you suggest.

Only an egoistic group wont take this advice.

    • I 100% agree with you.
Who lost in Katuba is it MMD or PF? Because the late Chikusu was voting with the PF MPs in the house and now that vote goes to the opposition in voting. My view is that PF has lost a good number of votes in the house i.e. all compromised MMD & UPND MPs vote the PF way, but if the cause a by election and lose then the vote is regained back to the opposition meaning it is PF losing votes in parley. Pipo must be analytical here not being .. ……..
Wynter Kabimba said there is TRIBALISM in PF than UPND what has changed after Katuba loss. Pipo even call a liar like SaTa at His Execellence… Rubbish

  19. The issues facing our nation are the reasons electorates will make a judgment on who to suppport in 2011 regardless of political rhetoric. 2011 we voted for a party that promised to kick out the chinese, lower taxes, increae money in pockets, create more jobs and deliver the constitution.

The demands or expectations are not much different now.

    1. people driven constitution
    2. more meaningful jobs
    3. increased prosperity
    4. entrenched multi partism and liberties
    5. improved health care and education and social security

  20. Very interesting, when in Mansa PF won, there were NO tribalism issues raised in relation to the voting pattern, now UPND wins Katuba with a good chunk of its voters residing within Lusaka (Kabangwe and surrounding areas) the issue of tribalism comes up! Since when did Lusaka become a Bantu Botatwe region? Accept defeat honorably and put your house in order before you are overtaken by events, LOSERS!!!

  21. The revolution indicator may not be through the Katuba election results BUT in the local government election results, particularly: Chililabombwe, Mpongwe, Mpulungu, and Busakile! If you can’t see the shift in the voting pattern given the location on our political map of the various wards that were recently contested and how PF was humbled by the UPND then stop talking about politics you are in the wrong place!

  22. There is only one way of proving whether this is a revolution or not. Let us go for a byelection anywhere in the country now aprt from Muchinga maybe. UPND has expelled a number of its MPs who are now being shielded by the courts of law which you have control over directly. There are other byelections pending in other areas. Choose any of the seats in Southern, Western, Eastern, North-western provinces and see what will hapeen to your party. Even Mwamba just became a cowered or maybe it was knowing that you have state machinery behind you, you would have put in all resources to max in Kasama to ensure that Mwamba looses the seat. If it meant distributing the left overs of the 750m euros on the streets of Kasama, you would have done that just to win the seat. He was also clever.

  23. PF IS LACKING PROPER LEADERSHIP ABD ITS UFORTUNATE THSAT THEY RE THE ONLY ONES PLAYING THE TRIBE CARD IN OUR COUNTRY.WHEN ANYONE WINS ITS OK BUT WHEN UPND WINS ITS TRIBE. THEY HAVE WON 91 OUT OF 127 SEATS ITS NOT TRIBE, THEY HAVE WON 11 OUT OF 19 ITS NOT TRIBE UPND HAS WON 6 AND ITS TRIBE. HOW SILLY CAN THESE PF BE

  24. All noon bembas who still vote for bemba people in offices are not just crazy but imbeciles.I don’t see a problem when people of luapula are vote a candidate from their region but when other places do it’s a problem. It seems you want only bembas to occupy all government positions not any other tribe. My advise to you blogers who support bemba tribalism know that people around the country are now hating bembas slowly. At the end you will find that no other tribe will accept to vote for any bemba candidate at presidential or ministerial level.Am not a Tonga but I prefer vote any other tribe than a bemba.Even Easterners now they cry the same about their tribal cousins.People related with bembas bewere of were tribalism is taking you.

  25. bashi mulenga guy koseeni mubuteko but never forget chisokone ili nefiko teti mutemwe nakayla iyo so do same thing about that …………..

  26. In north western we used to support each and every person regardless of tribe. But as at now we all know what it means by being a politician in Zambia,We all know what it takes for one to be supported by a bemba tribe,You need to be a bemba too.Now we don’t know were this bemba government is taking us to.North Westerners please pull up your socks, get United & see the way forward.Otherwise our province is going to be history soon.Wake up Kaondes,Luvales,Chokwes,Lambas & Mbundus.Let us fight for the development of our regions too as bembas,Lozis & Tongas do.North Western is the richest province in Zambia but last in terms of development.Wake up anweba bifu byenu mwe. Don’t we have educated people?

  27. ba PF tribal politics will not take you anywhere.

  28. @ Zebige,Peter and Gen. You are busy saying HH campaigned on the basis of tribe by telling the katuba people to vote for Shakafuswa since he hails from there.
But only people with short memory may not recall that PF and Sata always campaigns on the basis of taking development to a particular area if you vote for the candidate of the ruling party…..!!!. Tell me the difference between the two campaign strategies and why Pf shouldn’t be condemned since the national cake should be shared equally regardless of where you come from.

  29. Scott and all PF members, you all knew that KATUBA is/was MMD strong hold. Why did you go for elections then? Please OWN the defeat and move on. Tell HH to stop calling for by-elections (UPND MPs in gvt) rather offer checks and balances to the government. We have important things to solve as a country…the constitution! Am tired of this noise…tribalisme.makes me sick.many of the bloggers here have not lived and experienced out come of tribalism…civil war! Please stop it in the name of God, Allah, Budah, etc!

  30. @The Engineer(Australia), Dr Guy Scott spoke as politician who has to take a stance in political matters. Remember politics is a game of numbers and is a competition for power and control.

So his statement is right within his ambit of operation. WHO IS THE CHIPUBA here? Why are you annoyed to that extent? Simunawine?

    UBUPUBA… PA…AUSSIE?

  31. Scott just accept defeat even your “Politics of the belly” Munkombwe has cautioned you to put your house in order. Wake up and stop this self aggrandizing, your time is running out. Next time you lose in Eastern Province you will be saying it is not a PF stronghold.

  32. Don’t tell me PF went to campaign furiously in Katuba, knowing fully well that they were going to lose the by-election. That is nonsense. Defeat is painfull and all this talk is mere band aid.

  33. Bwana SCOTT “Umusungu Wamusonko” Politics its about numbers you convinced DR Chikusu to be on side for the sake of control. Admitt that you lost period! Ka Kabimba politics is a dirty game regardless of the formula you use. You used Lies all over like the DEVIL to Eva in order to win elections. Now that you ve been exposed people cant trust you any more. Your statistics wont help you balimisepa fye.
