Young Shepolopolo exit World Cup after Venezuela bashing

Zambia has been knocked out of the 2014 FIFA U17 World Cup in Costa Rica after losing to Venezuela 4-0 in their second Group A match in San Jose on Wednesday morning.

The Shepolopolo missed a number of chances in the first half through Grace Chanda and Ireen Lungu before they were punished by Venezuela.

Zambia had the earliest clear-cut chance in the match after just seven minutes as Chanda found herself inside the box but directed her shot at the keeper.

Venezuela took a 14th minute lead through Deyna Castellanos who beat Zambia keeper Hezel Nali with a low shot from inside the box.

The South Americans went to the half time break leading 1-0 before a Gabriela Garcia second half hattrick condemned Zambia to their second defeat after Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Italy in their opening match.

Garcia inked her hattrick with goals in the 47th, 59th and 86th minutes.

The Albert Kachinga side is now waiting to play their last group match against Costa Rica on Saturday before heading back home.

  1. Okay, my girls. Come home and get your K10000.00 from honest Honourable Chishimba Kambwili offered to you at the height of the nurses’ strike.

  2. Football success is usually associated to political, economical and good governance of the country they represent you dont expect the girls to win when in their country Zambia things are bad, economy is craking, leadership is not there name them..how can they win…Zambia won AFCON 2012 coz PF had just taken office people had hope based on there false promises so at that moment everyone had confidence

    • So USA, Japan, Uk, Germany, Canada,Singapore, etc are the world champions in your head?

  3. I DONT THINK OUR GIRLS WERE PREPARED ENOUGH FOR SUCH A BIG EVENT. THEY NEED MORE EXPOSURE. PLAYING IN FRONT OF A HUGE CROWARD HAS ITS OWN EFFECT ON THE MINDS OTHE GIRLS. IN FUTURE THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY AS CURTAIN RAISERS EACH TIME WE HAVE A BIG MATCH AT BIGVENUES LIKE LIKE NATIONAL HEROS OR LEVY MWANAWASA STADIUMS. I HOPE THE GIRLS WILL BEAT THE HOST COSTA RICAQ AS A FACE SAVER. WISH THEM WELL.

  4. Well done girls. You made us proud just by qualifying. For me I never expected them to beat any team but to participate, which they have done. I have read that many USA based universities are looking at the posibilility of signing some of our girls to play in their teams. this is where it begins to get interesting. We need to encourage our girls to invest in education particularly because they are all young. let us promote competitive girls soccer from a tender age. The girls are really promissing when they mean business. just like Esteher and catherine have achieved beyond our expectations in the ring, the Junior Shepolopolo will do it with reasonable support and discipline. Well done children.

  5. These girls are heroes all the same they even played well created a lot of chances in the first half but the fining was not very sharp well done girls.
