MMD President Nevers Mumba says Zambians are not interested in projects about record high Maize bumper harvest from the PF Government in the midst of record Mealie meal prices.

Dr Mumba said mere projections of Maize bumper harvest when Mealie Meal prices are still very high make a mockery of hard working farmers.

Dr Mumba said Minister of Agriculture Wilbur Simuusa should not have rushed to the media to release statistics based on projections even before the crop is fully harvested.

“We don’t understand the euphoria that has come with these projections. Our stance as the MMD is that these numbers are meaningless as long as Mealie Meal prices remain high,” Dr Mumba said.

He said the MMD Government left a good legacy in agriculture with successive Maize bumper harvest which translated into cheaper mealie meal.

“When we left Government, a 25 Kg bag of Breakfast Mealie Meal was selling at K 38 and now just under three years, the PF has taken the price to K 85. The high prices are killing the poor people and this government is now giving us a hoax of estimates about record Maize production,” he said.

Dr Mumba was speaking to Journalists in Lusaka after touring the Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.

At the hospital, Dr Mumba who was accompanied by some NEC members, Lusaka Province Youth Chairman Scorpion Kadobi took time to pray for the sick who included former Kabwe Mayor Richard Yumbwe who is hospitalized.

  1. Have learn’t to knock out a couple of Zero’s to whatever figures get released by PF officials just to be realistic.

When Sata says 600 000 Jobs created, knock out 2 Zero’s to get a realistic figure, please do the same with this Maize forecast.

    • This man is a joker , he is visiting the former mayor but decides to lay his hands on Hakaumba ‘ dad. Prophet of doom.

ask your friend economist HH, the law of supply and demand will apply, on the bumper harvest.

    • PF said they used ‘scientific method’ in projecting the harvest, meaning state house gave them the numbers. Blatant liars they are but then that’s the name of their game.

    • How are projections supposed to translate into cheaper mealie meal?
Is this guy normal or is he just certified stupid?

    • MMD deputy National secretary Chembe Nyangu was a coworker with Sata for Chiluba’s third term bid. He is Sata’s mole in MMD.

    • IF there will be a “bumper crop” then what is the “scientific method” used?
IF there will be a bumper crop the figures mentioned relate only to numbers since 2011 and as such is not a “country record”.
IF a bumper crop is true then due to the export of maize being more profitable, the domestic market “could suffer” a deficit and consequently the price of mealie meal will not go down.
( look out for this excuse later on)
IF this forecast is incorrect and export still occurs then the price will not go down.
IF this forecast is a lie then investigations must occur if maize is still exported as sometimes it seems projections maybe turned into an imaginary commodity that would furnish the accounts of companies set up to buy imaginary maize for export, as a way of…

    • @forecast. There are always chances for one to repeat grade 7 or 9. You can also rewrite grade 12.

Anyway I cant blame you and Nevers because Zambians have lived for too long on lies and promises to the extent that they cant even believe in themselves.

Bwana, what is going to bring down the prices of mealie meal is not cheap Opposition Politics. It is hard work….increqased mize production.

But then you guys have kept the price of Maize abnormally too low so that the unproductive street loiter can vote for you????? So sad!!

    • @HRH…you are quite a funny little chappie. Your comment leaves no answers to my questions or tries to define my points. There is no substance or quality to your comment either. It just shows the simplistic nature of your thinking. ..henceforth…gullibility. Look at the cement for export saga that has in itself left Zambia, the producer of the cement, with stunted development because of the better export value of said commodity..cement. So as such, economically the outcome may prove disastrous if export is started before ACTUAL yield, and if export market pricing is better than domestic. Simple. And as you are obviously a genius, please give me the “scientific formula” besides crude estimates based on crude figures for people who think very crudely, with crude, unrefined knowledge?

    • …and where is the arrangements for delivery and storage for this extra bounty. It’s all good claiming to increase FISP funding but where is the infrastructure? They have announced this funding for later (maybe) but what about plans for harvest, processing and transport? Which yeilds is this record compared to? Hey HRH? You insolence and ignorance shows your stature…very low..very low. And by the way….I have no allegiance to anyone.

  2. it starts with a record bumper harvest, low prices come later. you and your cattle worshipping Himalayan Hindu friend (HH) are political misfits without a message for the people

  3. Right pastor.the economist would agree with you based on this principle.high supply, low prices and high demand, high prices.let them wait for harvest.

  4. True…..if that bumper harvest is real, then the prices must go down otherwise there might be something so fishy about this chitchat.

    • Any figures coming from the PF have to be rebased by 100, if you don’t you stand yourself to blame for the disapointment you will get yourself into.

    • True that…..very simple too..if supply is more than demand then something should be followed up by cutting down on the cost of such a commodity but reality is otherwise. Simple mathematics that does not even need any blahblah. You true…ni rebased everything, hope even the population count, they did not rebase the actual number.

  5. Mr President, Politics of maize from 1991 to 2011; thats why Zambia never developed anything tangile to right home about. Zambians cannot have the cake and keep it at the same time; its a tough decision made by PF. To invest in infrastructure and install revenue collection mechanisms from them, such as electricity billing systems and toll roads so as to repay the loans. Its the right way to go; if people cannot afford mealie-meal, what did they do during the just ended rain season? waiting for government to buy them mealie-meal or making efforts to grow some food stuffs? Preach hard work, not laziness ba President. Government cannot and should not continue spending on maize.

  6. How are projections supposed to translate into cheaper mealie meal?
Is this guy normal or is he just certified stupid?

  7. ATI BA PASTOR! BA Dr NEVER PASTOR MUMBA, USE YOUR HEAD MAN. LOW COMMODITY PRICES CAN NEVER COME WITH LOW COMMODITY PRODUCTION. SUPPLY MUST HIGH FOR COMMODITY PRICES TO COME DOWN. IT’S NOT KU CHURCH WHERE YOU JUST MILK THE ATTENDEES.

  8. mmd is not qualified to tell the truth!!! they ruled for 20yrs and failed and they are here to bounce back just bcoz of what?come on guys pf has just taken two years and we must cut them some sluck!!!!

  9. He goes to visit people in hospital and starts laying his hands on them to heal them. Total abuse taking advantage, as usual, of the weak and vulnerable! Do we have to expect that if he leads the country we will not need to spend money on medicine as the good pastor will just pray for every sick person? Or maybe he can pray for a bumper harvest so we can have cheap mealie-meal!

Can we see some results from these prayers please otherwise what is the point?
Con-man who has found his neash among poor Africans. This guy would not do such things in the West, he would be arrested!

    • Africans need to wake up and stop wasting their time with these pointless religions. I for one can not trust someone like Mumba who is a pastor/politican.
He should be very articulate in his comparisons with the former regimes were subsidies were in place to today. ..when they are not in place….merely stating the price differences is not enough.

  10. This is very simple, if Zambia has a bumper harvest the supply is more than demand and if this is the case the price of the maize should be cheaper. suppliers will look for market for their excessive tonnes of maize sitting in the shed. therefore the price will reduce. Such comments even if they are projections should also affect the price of maize, because the supplier knows that they will have excess in a few weeks to come. But if the maize price remains high even after announcing the high tonnage expected, then it is just another PF lie. Remember PF lied about the lozis and the 90 day money in the pocket/constitution so this is just another lie

    • It is obvious to me that you know nothing about the World Markets and indeed the economy for that matter. Sentiments do affect future pricing but you do not have such future markets in Zambia – it is purely SPOT/CASH market.
This is the problem with people of your kind who have no expertise in anything except that you happen to have access to the Internet.
I frankly amazed at the lack of know how among Zambian. I always thought Zambian education used to be high up there – I guess a lot has changed since then.
I really & honestly feel sorry for Zambia – How on earth is the country supposed to get anywhere when it’s LITERATE population are so uninformed?
It is no wonder the abracadabra of the sort of Pastor Mumba thrive in such ignorant fertile ground.

  11. @ Mofya it’s you who is uneducated here, clearly you are saying that this would not affect Zambia, makes me wonder how the strength of dollar is affecting Kwacha. If the change in dollar affects the strength of kwacha then, the bumper harvest revelation should as well affect the price of maize and this is what we want to see.

    • This is a case of an adult trying to argue with a child!
Even by your own limited know how logic – it is obvious to you that the sentiments (true or false & nobody has been able to disapprove them) – have not affected the price of mealie-meal contrary to both your expectations and perhaps what might be expected in some markets. WHY OH WHY WHY? It is a mystery! IT IS NOT!
The markets in Zambia don’t work that way & your lack of knowing anything about this is what is making you think this is all MAGIC. I do not blame you – you are just a product of the wider problem!

    • @chaliz clearly you have failed to see the point (@Mofya). Zambia does not a have a well developed market for such changes (as you have mentioned) to take effect automatically.
What I have realized about this blog is that the voice of reason rarely prevails. This is due to the fact that MMD messed up the education system with their Basic Schools initiative. We have now ended up with a nation full of functional illiterates.

    • Mofya, the problem with you is that you think education is the means to the end and that you have the monpoly of education and knowledge. And any such economic coments should be done by selected few endorsed by you.Dr Mumba is right, there’re many pronouncements made by PF,but they don’t translate into anything beneficial to the Zambians.Your hatred for Dr Mumba will just consume you.

    • @ Mofya instead of moaning the ignorance of the zambian inteligencia on the issue of the zambian market could you please just explain how we would find that despite the bumper harvest the price of meali meal will still be high. there thats a good man!

    • @Nigger of Nagasaki – That the voice of reason does not prevail in Zambia is clearly very obvious OR the country wouldn’t be in such a mess!
It is a serious issue compounded by so many factors but the long and short is that here we have a fundamental cocktail of cultural and systemic issues that require nothing less than a revolution.
As for @Mulikita – I am really sorry but I am much too perspicacious to be taken in by such spurious arguments.

  12. I hear these guys recently deployed in new districts have not been paid their monies from the time they were employed.2 drivers from newly created districts already stopped work and came back to drive taxis.nowadays PF cant lie on figures especially on job creation.these guys have no mercy.2016 will be hard for PF.They will try to hide in infrastractural development and creation of districts, cooked up figures on job creation but on the other hand wat will tie them is the issue of constitution, police brutality, corruption, economic depreciation etc.2016 is btn PF and UPND.for western and southern PF should forget.

  13. Ba pastor, its the production cost of the the bumper harvest that will determine the detail price of the final product or commodity.

  14. These dull PF cadres they let reasoning go out off their heads, didn’t your PF flood the market so prices could go down and not escalate, why shouldn’t prices go down since
Their is bumper harvest otherwise this is worse like falling for those Nigerian scams

  15. Not much response from pf govt on Dr mumba visiting mwanawasa hospital, had it been HH we would have seen all pf cadres, useless mps,and a response through Facebook by mcs that hh is trying to get political mileage on the sick.pf should learn to play a fair game,we are watching closely.

    • Ba Chikubeniso,HH has his stile of doing politics.Leave Dr Mumba alone and let him run his own race.Dr Mumba is a Christian and he’s just fulfilling Matthew 25:35-36.Let HH also fulfill whatever he is.Zambia needs a Leadership of Love and Compassion.Love and Compassion are not obtained by going to the University or attaining any kind of training or education. These things are spiritual and they come from God.I don’t know how much HH submits himself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

  16. Ba nevers you are just a money laundering machine.go back to where u came from and let the doctors handle the patients u cantangaras animal

  17. Papa, keep on praying for us[zambians].Zambian needs a man that can judge things by the spirit and not by sight God is seeing your heart one day you will be in state house.

  18. can pf help farmers who have worked so hard so as to bring the bamper harvest by anouncing a high marting prize for this year if you go round the country start with southern province to some parts of the country brificase business men are reaping from poor farmers can the minister of agriculture come up with a better prize or else this so called bamper harvest will be nothing to farmers

  19. Bumper harvest my butt. Iowa a state where i live here in the United Sates has land which is 56,272 Sq Miles and a population of over 3 million . Zambia has total land of 290,586 sq miles with a population of approximately 13 million. So we are so happy that we produced 3.3 million metric tons of corn were produced this year and we eat corn in almost all our meals. Do you want to know how much corn was produced in Iowa? here we go, last yr farmers here produced about 60 million tons. So when i hear bumper harvest, i think it is a joke.

    • What is your point? It is a bumper harvest in relation to what was produced (in Zambia) last year! Never mind what is produced in Iowa or anywhere else… This all about Zambia and what we produce and consume, period!

  20. Was Senior Hikaumba discharged from hospital after the “anointed one” laid his hands on him?

  21. NEVERS MUMBA, YOU HAVE CROSSED MANY BARRIERS IN YOUR LIFE. YOU WERE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNTRY FROM NOWHERE. NOW FROM NOWHERE, YOU ARE PRESIDENT OF MMD. YOU WON AGAINST ALL ODDS, WITH GIANTS LIKE MUTATI, STANDING AGAINST YIU.

ZAMBIANS, WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT, NEVERS IS THE NEXT REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA, ITS WRITTEN EVERYWHERE. ITS LIKE THERE IS AN INVISIBLE HAND PROPELLING HIM.

    • What sort of rubish is this – whether Zambians like it or not. Then why hold any elections at all? Has foolishness now become a full fledged subject of study in Zambian schools?
