The Sunday Times of London has made serious allegations that FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya received some payments from the Qatar 2022 World Cup bid committee.

According to the allegations contained in an investigative report published in the UK’s prime Sunday paper state that Kalusha and disgraced former FIFA vice president and top Qatar football official Mohammad Bin Hammam exchanged emails over payment of money.

“As per our conversation, please Mr President if you could assist me with about 50 thousand Dollars for my Football association and personal expenditures. I hope to repay you in the near future, as the burden is little bit too hard for me at this moment,” Kalusha is alleged to have stated in part in his email to Bin Hammam in 2009.

However, The Sunday Times said there is no evidence the alleged loan was ever paid back and added that a further $30,000 was wired to Kalusha’s personal account in 2011 after the FAZ president was said to be “a little thin on resources.”

30 current and former FA presidents in the CAF zone are alleged to have benefitted from a $5 million slush fund to help Qatar win its eventually successful bid for the 2022 World Cup.

Questions have been raised since Qatar won its bid to host the 2022 finals on December 2, 2010 edging out the USA, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

The Gulf nations bid has been hit by controversy surrounding the staging of the finals in the scorching heat and poor working conditions for the migrant labour hired to build stadium’s and infrastructure.

The sell of alcohol, gender rights and the potential of Israels qualification , a country Qatar does not recognise, have all hit the Gulf states staging of the 2022 World Cup.

    • Honest people finish last. Sometimes you have to cheat, lie and manipulate to move ahead in life. Go Kalu!

    • UK is now useless piece of a country, they think Zambia is a Zimbabwe who they can be dragging in their own shit? Colonists.
Kalusha has done nothing, if UK has interest then let them go for those Arabs who are better than them.

    • Anyone who will ever want to “attack” or pull-down Kalu will face my dark-side. I will kick a shit out of them. Starting from those UK based piece of colonial ass-kissers.

    • Fi England are just bad losers. They should move on.Ni nkongole iyi.just bid for the 2026 world cup ba mambala imwe.mufunanji ?

    • Every one knows kalu is rooten to the core when it comes to corruption. The buffoon has no shame , all in the name of pleasing his old wife, you are still a slave ba Kalu , coupled with a low self esteem .wake up.

    • I think the Brits are being sore losers. If Qatar has money to splash around let it be so.Kalu asked for money and it was given to him.I don’t see whats wrong with that. I think people are upset because they have never been able to ask anyone for that kind of money and receive it.

  1. The problem is Zambia has produced so many corrupt F.O.Ols who seem to be the cream of Zambia… including the Monkey in statehouse

    • Very funny…no matter how well you become at swimming you can never be a fish.

Mr Engineer in Aussie…no matter how well you immitate an Australian you are still a good for nothing monkey in the eyes of a none Negroid and should know better not to call a fellow negroid a monkey…you s.t.u.p.i.d nigga.

    • yo call others cow ha something ???.Now yu are feelining how it hates to becalled Monkeys yu Bembas.Stop insults on line lets talk issiues.Especially Gen watch yo tongue.

  2. Zambia can never host the world cup so if someone was prepared to give us money then why should we refuse? Can someone please tell me what donchi kubeba mean? They claim to have had a 5million slush fund and Kalusha asked for approx $80,000 so where did the rest go?

    • 50,000 was for FAZ and 30,000 wired to his personal account. I see nothing wrong. Is a very resourceful President.

  3. The problem is that some people trust Kalu such that when someone brings to the fore his dirty side, such allegations are dismissed as petty jealousy. He is NOT a Saint! There’s a lot of dirty dealings at Football House, unfortunately the AFCON win in 2012 masked them all. There is a mafia kind of gagging, such that whoever speaks out is accused of bringing the name into disrepute and threatened with life ban. Simataa may not be perfect, but credit to him for standing up and speak out what many only do in privacy. Many thanks also to Eden Djokotoe (sp) for exposing the injustice perpetuated by the Football House Mafioso.

  4. “As per our conversation, please Mr President if you could assist me with about 50 thousand Dollars for my Football association and personal expenditures. I hope to repay you in the near future, as the burden is little bit too hard for me at this moment,” .
LIKE MANY OF US ZAMBIANS, WE LIKE NKONGOLE, AND SOMETIMES, WE DO NOT ACTUALLY PAY BACK THE MONEY, SOMETIMES WE JUST PAY BACK IN KIND. AS FOR ME, THE ONLY THING AM SEEING THERE IS KALU GETTING NKONGOLE. UNLESS THEY SHOW US THE PART WERE HE SAYS GIVE ME THIS AND I WILL VOTE FOR YOU. AS FOR HIM HIM GIVING QATAR THE VOTE, WELL WHY NOT HELP OUT A FRIEND WHO WAS THERE IN YOUR TIME OF NEED. OTHERWISE, THEY SHOULD ARREST EVERYONE WHO QATAR HAD HELPED BEFORE BID, HAVE VOTING RIGHTS AND THEN GAVE THEM A VOTE DURING THE BID

    • Typical corrupt mind set, its called compromise and that’s the reason why Africa is wasted. No one seems to want to be responsible in their conduct. When you have a position of responsibility you have to avoid cash favors and theirs no such thing as free Lunch.

    • so you are telling me that someone who is in a position of responsibility is not at liberty to ask for money favours? or do someone a favour? talk about compromise, our daily lives are atleast more than 50% compromise including yours. if it were not so, then i think the definition for the term corrupt mindset must be revised.

    • Obviously integrity is a foreign term to you, Its strange that the most corrupt are idolized and voted into responsibility. You can get loans from banks, family friends and not from people who need your vote. I love Kalu very much but unfortunately if this is proven to be true he is likely to be indicted, if you know what that means. Not only is Kalu’s reputation at stake but Zambia’s and Zambian’s integrity is questioned.

    • Please donnot fall into the trap of defending corruption unless you are also corrupt. If you have applied for a passport and the passport officer comes to your house in the night and asks for money and you call that ” ampele fye umwine”, then you are very corrupt. We are talking of money exchanging hands during the “BID PERIOD”. That is why we are poor. Too much corruption in our heads.

    • there is no evidence of kalu saying i will vote A and B if you help. same, if the passport officer was in need, i would not hesistat to help unless if he started saying he will speed up my process if you do so for me, then i will be alarmed. as for the time when Kalu was standing as FAZ president even up to now, there is no time were he was or has been proven corrupt by any court, international or local, so i do not know were that part of saying we vote the most corrrupt into powe and idolise them. until he is found guilty, i will stand for him on the basis of his works as FAZ president and i will not throw my fellow Zambian to the sharks with hidden agenda in the name of intergrity and reputation to people who do not even care whether you exist or not period.

  5. The UK shall never forgive blatter n anybody whom they believe did not support their bid for the world hosting. Grow up UK get a life n move on. What position does Kalu hold in FIFA for him to influence the decision to award the world cup hosting? Bushe imwe u cant just see that this continued sour grapes ba UK. I am just disapointed ba Kalu mwaipwishe aka nono. Ka 80 pin dollar ba kaamba nomba tukapwisha lilali ama problems ku kamuchanga kuka Chofa naku Mighty? Imwe ba Kalu mwalishiba ati abantu abamilolesha ku Mafukeni bengi elo mwaya sobamo akaiche dollar. If there is some more please tulombeleniko fwebena kamuchanga ifwe ubwamba bulekulila kofye.

  6. Guys those Arabs in Quatar have so much oil money they dont even know what to do with it. For them to get a world cup, you know money was thrown around like monopoly paper, our guy gets 80k and we are all up in arms. The pile of money was sitting there and each man on his own. I dont condone corruption guys but hey are you gonna pass on a sack full on cash just sitting on the road while others are helping themselves?

  7. I dont see how they can be accusing Kalu of Corruption, just because he asked for credit from a friend/colleague. unless Kalu had written to say i will pay you back in terms of a vote. I think many of us have found ourselves in difficulties where we dont know who to turn to. And we ask someone for some help sometimes the person may not be so close but you give it a shot.

  8. but this is what we have always said…, Kalusha has no morals. He survives because of the corrupt guys in CAF and Fifa. Finish! In a normal society, he cannot be a ‘leader’ for any organisation

    • But he lead an organisation that brought the Africa Cup to Zambia for the first time. He was captain of the Zambia National Team for a long time.

Other things you can talk bad about him except maybe leadeship – In that one I think he has done well.

Leadership is in many styles – It can be mafia style (dictatorship), democratic or whatever may suitable on the circumstances for one to deliver a goal / objective.

He is also an example of consistence – He attempted to win the AFCON as a player, Coach and finally got it as a FAZ president. Dont you think his leadership style was appropriate?

  9. I love Kalu. But if he benefited from proceeds of criminal activities the he must face the repercussions.

  10. Kalusha is such financially desperate guy. Begging for $30,000! The guy has no class, how can he solicit for cash in such a way, and yet he spent almost 20 years playing professional football in Europe and North America. He couldn`t invest for his retirement. Anyway, corrupt-minded people have no shame and class.

In Zambia, people like Kalusha are hero-worshiped for national leadership.

  11. Obviously Kalu heard that this guy was buxed up, so why not approach him if he needed help? If the English have no culture of informal financial assistance between friends, they should not impose their archaic colonial mentality upon us. He who asked and was given is better than he who took without asking, like the British did with our resources.

  12. @Nostradamus,
I always read your contributions on this blog and have found them well balanced and full of humour but I am totally shocked by the tone of your language this morning and it’s not like you. Could it be that Kalusha is your very close buddy and you know something to do with the allegations? Why not wait and hold your fire until he clears himself. Insulting fellow bloggers won’t remove these serious allegations against Kalusha, please.

  13. Of course to other Kalusha is an idol, a god and whether he stills from them or not it doesn’t matter. It is a particular kind of people who praise thieves and whose part of their everyday culture is stealing….if you don’t steal from your job, you are ‘sleepy’.

Thankfully, not all Zambia is like that! Kalusha is a disgrace to some Zambians who don’t regard stealing as part of culture. Kalusha has abused and tarnished the image of Zambia so many times that I have been led to conclude he has absolutely no soul, no self-respect. The day he will leave that position of FAZ presidency, that will be his end. It will be good riddance to some of us who don’t worship stealing and then go on to pretend we are Christians and call Zambia a Christian nation…

    • Best contribution so far. Integrity should be exhibited at every level in society, from cleaner to highest office in the land.

    • Best contribution .We need such contributions to cahange pipos mind set towards life and property in general. The behavoiur by Kalu is potraying a bad picture about Zambia,no Zambian worth his or her sourt can aprove this behaviour.

  14. england was so bitter about loosing the right to host the world cup and from that time they have tried so much to put mad on the winners especially qator so that they can be disqualified there by creating a chance for them to host it. But you know what, most countries do not count enland as footballing nation. ask germans or italians they will telly you. only becoz they have money, there mediu talks as england is more than brazil.

  15. This blind support you have in Zambia is so shocking Kalusha is not known here in England his emails were found among many the person who linked them the UK can not have anything against zambia for what? The issue here is the money went into his personal Bank account he used the name of FAZ for personal gain the guy is not straight if it was in Europe he was going to step down what he did was very wrong.

  16. Kalu thrives at borrowing. At one point he owed the following national team players:
    Felix Katongo USD 10000
    Christopher Katongo USD 10000
    Emmanuel Mayuka USD 10000
    Collins Mbesuma USD 15000
    Jacob Mulenga USD 5000
    Stophilla Sunzu USD 7000
    Kalaba USD 5000
    Nathan Sinkala 5000
I doubt if he has ever paid back these monies.

    • @ Chamu the loan shark
      Exactly!!!!
Many people know about his dirty side, but when you try to expose such you’re accused of being jealous and exhibiting PHD syndrome. Those players who have tried to air out the grievances have had their careers with national team terminated. It’s not about being jealousy, what we demand is transparency and integrity!

    • This makes interestingly sad reading.. that he should con these players and blackmail them…. Karma screwed him when he lost his multi-million (kr) mansion.

Karma is inevitable so let us conduct ourself in such a way to guarantee good outcomes. In other words, do good.

  17. A cheat is a cheat. As much as people want to worship Kalusha, he is after all is said and done a mere mortal. If he had any ounce of morality he would resign. The man is so stuck in delusional grander that he would never even consider it. Yes he missed the plane to Gabon, Yes he was an ok player but we should not be taken for a ride by con men which is what Kalusha is.

  18. We can not leave him alone the ***** is a crook if you are not aware what he is involved in is serious at FIFA an investigation has been launched but in Zambia you are busy worshiping him. That chap is not known in Europe.

  19. Analysing these comments you can see that the majority of Zambians suffer from low if not the lowest esteem. A serious society must have norms and people who hold public office must be accountable to the people in their actions. The fact that Kalusha scored crucial goals for Zambia does not give him immunity to commit wrongs. This just goes on to show how Zambians have become so used to corruption, so much that they don’t even care or is it ignorance about how it has destroyed our country and made vulnerable people suffer and die.

  20. Will it be wrong to hear Kalusha’s side of the story? He could be guilty or not……..To early to comment.

  21. Kalusha wrote the email with in ingeniously Zambian phraseology and I quote “a little thin on resources.” Let him deny that. He is way past he his ‘sell by’ date.

  22. Amafi ya Nostradamus! I think the owner of the name must be turning in his grave! Kalu is a parasite. that is why he doesn’t want to let go of FAZ. eating with both hands! Earn an honest living like all of us we work and earn our money! A Gigolo. always wanting rich white women! poor up bringing! Leave our FAZ concentrate on FIFA and CAF! Kwalala bamusopolola lelo!

  23. fake story i have checked the source it has not even said anything about Kalu.
    please write the truth!!!!!!!

    • The London Sunday Times Says the Qatar World Cup Was Bought With £3 Million of Bribes
The Qatar World Cup was bought? No way! Ever since the World Cup in 2022 was awarded to Qatar in late 2010, there have been rumblings and suspicions of corruption in the process. Since then, we have also had reports of human rights abuses with laborers, and plenty of discussion about the heat. It was just a matter of time before the smoking guns began emerging. 12 years is a long time to cover something up before it happens.
The London Sunday Times now comes out with “Plot to Buy the World Cup” (behind paywall), which alleges that £3 million in bribes was paid out to various FIFA officials to secure the vote, and claims to have a cache of millions of documents supporting it.
      The only surprising thing…

  24. I was wondering where Kalusha got the money for the wedding that went viral on the internet. In fact, this revelation could be only the tip of an iceberg.

  25. Anyone who believes there’s no corruption in FIFA, I have a first class ticket to Mars to sell you. That said, if the allegations are proven to be true, then, Kalusha must resign or be forced out. I’ve been an ardent supporter of Kalusha as FAZ President from day one, but corruption is corruption; what can stop Kalusha from fixing matches (again, if the allegations are true)? What credibility would he have to discipline players or FAZ employees under his authority? It’s a slippery slope. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until the process runs its course.

  26. @concerned citizen. I agree with you. He is innocent until proved guilty. Having said so, does he have authority to borrow money on behalf of FAZ?

    • He might have the authority to “borrow money on behalf of FAZ”, but that should be spelled out in FAZ’s by-laws or constitution otherwise any one can, under false pretenses, “borrow money” on behalf of FAZ. Also, that’s something Kalusha has to clear up by explaining and providing evidence of what he or FAZ used the money for. The damning piece of evidence provided by the UK Times is the account number used to transfer the money to (appears to be Kalusha’s personal account). As I indicated previously, he’s innocent until proven guilty, but if found guilty, he MUST go.

  27. MILLIONS ON WEAH SCHOOL FEES
Among the alleged payments made by Mohammed bin Hammam were

£30,000 for ‘school fees’ for Liberian-born former Man City striker George Weah – FIFA’s world player of the year in 1995.

£48,000 to Zambian FA president Kalusha Bwalya for ‘FA and personal expenditure’.

£31,500 to Fadoul Houssein, of the Djibouti FA, for an ‘expensive course of medical treatment for his general secretary’ and an all-expenses luxury trip to Saudi Arabia.

£36,000 for a ‘car to travel to football projects’ for ex-Gambian FA boss Seedy Kinteh.

£480,000 to the Ivory Coast FA as part of a Fifa development scheme.£120,000 in cash to 25 delegates flown to Kuala Lumpur to discuss the bid in 2008.

£30,000 to Sao Tome FA president Manuel Dende, who asked for £138,000 for…
