Zambia brace for AFCON character test

Share

Zambia face a serious test of character today when they face Cape Verde away in a 2015 Africa Cup Group F qualifier.

It has been a forgettable last five days for Zambia and coach Honour Janza.

Firstly the team was unconvincing in their Group F opener against Mozambique who held them to a 0-0 home draw in Ndola.

Then on Monday and Tuesday they were the victims of what is turning out to be a perennial bout of administrative and logistical bureaucracy that has characterised their long haul away matches over the last six years.

Zambia left for Cape Verde at the eleventh hour on Tuesday night and will virtually disembark from the plane and head straight to the stadium .

The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 9 at 19h00.

Zambia have one point, two behind Cape Verde who they will be meeting for the first time ever.

Cape Verde have began the campaign on a flying start with a 3-1 away win over Niger last Saturday to hand new coach and ex-Portugal striker Luis Aguas a bright start in his first national team coaching appointment.

Aguas has clearly stated that beating Zambia could signal the turning point so early in the Group F qualifiers on the road to Morocco.

“The game [against Zambia] has greater importance [than the Niger game] if we can also repeat what we did in the first match then we can consolidate our position in the second game,” Aguas said.

Meanwhile, a win for Zambia will be a great boost for underfire Janza after that poor draw on his competitive debut.

But most importantly a win should not be hijacked by the usual suspect officials and should be solely dedicated to the players who have endured nothing but a very rough ride to Praia for this evenings game.

    • When Govt wants to correct the wrongs in FAZ, the little pompous man claims it is interferance and runs to FIFA for “protection”. When FAZ have no money to chater a plane they blame govt of not being responsive. The do not run to FIFA to provide the plane. Leave Kambwili alone. Just fire the little pompous man at FAZ.

    • Cape Verde has a Portuguese coach, ex-Portuguese striker. Zambian has NO coach at all.
Janza the cadre has no charisma, no self confidence, no swag, not even looks. He could look more cleaner if he was coaching in T-shirt than wearing a suit at matches.

    • Tax payers’ money again being used outside budget. Mr kalusha always rubbishes govt when they want to intervene at FAZ. He must know that Zambian tax payers are represented by the govt. FIFA is known to have no respect for governments. We must differentiate between rich countries and poor countries in this regard. Ours are tight budgets where every Kwacha taken to pleasure deprives a patient, pupil or crime victim.

    • @Satan
We should fire you first, then fat Albert in that order. In all likelihood, Kalu was bamboozled by the ‘fart’ one to leave everything to the ministry to arrange the logistics. How do you explain the zillion apologies from Kambwili’s deputy? It is common knowledge that FAZ is broke and relies on bailouts from Govt. FYI, money has been squandered on campaigns for the by-elections. Your govt is headed by a maggot, period.

  1. I do not understand why FAZ officials rushed to Cape Verde leaving the players stranded just because they wanted to make allowances. How can kalusha Bwalya and his FAZ officials deny that they are not responsible for what has happened and heap the blame on Govt. When Govt tries to bring sanity at FAZ it is viewed as interference and the chap rushes to FIFA for protection but is it FIFA who are supposed to charter a plane for the players. Its high time fellow zambians we got rid of these thugs at FAZ otherwise we are headed nowhere.

  2. Like I always say to you Zombies is that our problem is mainly administration and manage; you can not have a FAZ president who has LAMENTABLY FAILED manage his own personal finances to manage a big organisation as that. This happened in Ghana and will happen again. ..these empty suits are only good for getting ticket money and tv revenue for themselves.
We are not going anywhere as long as corrupt Kalu is in charge.

  3. Let me say this. If Chipolopolo loses let the players return home. But as for the coach, FAZ officials and Govt representatives, let them go somewhere else and eat Ebola

  4. Firstly fellow Zambian, who release money & arrange NATION TEAM trip, is it GOVT or FAZ? To what i know its GOVT so i dont see any reason one to put a ‘BLAME’ on FAZ (Kalu) mind you DUPTY MINISTER (GOVT) is one telling us soccar fans ‘SOORY’ for ‘DELAYING’ the players its NOT faz.
My message let us wait & watch the match when you are “GOOD you are GOOD” best team wil carry a day.

    GO! GO! CHIPOLOPOLO

  5. Plz Ba janza use players who play regulary to their respected clubs not by names and stop calling local players for camping coz u don’t use dem

  6. Yes indeed.the Zambian team is called Fipolopolo and not Chipolopolo. This needs correction asap.Good luck boys. Its tough there.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.
