VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has maintained that mealie meal prices will go down as soon as the maize purchasing exercise is completed.

Responding to a question by Nalikwanda MMD MP Geoffrey Lungwangwa in Parliament, Dr Scott said mealie meal prices in Zambia were not as high as they were being portrayed by some opposition members of Parliament.

Professor Lungwangwa had sought to find out what the Government was doing about mealie meal prices that had gone up as high as K90 in some parts of the country.

But Dr Scott said the Government did a survey with the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflections (JCTR) and established that mealie meal prices in most parts of Zambia were below K70.

The Vice-President urged MPs to ensure factual information was brought to the House at all times. This was during the Vice-President’s question and answer session.

Dr Scott also informed the House that seven heads of State and Government were scheduled to attend this years’ Golden Jubilee celebrations in Zambia.

He was responding to a question from PF Bwacha MP Sydney Mushanga who wanted to know which dignitaries would attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations this month.

On the Constitution, Dr Scott told the House that Justice Minister Edgar Lungu had continued to dialogue with stakeholders on the way forward over the Constitution.

Kabwata PF MP Given Lubinda sought to know what was holding back the cleaning up of Lusaka city despite the issue having been resolved more than three years ago.

Dr Scott said it was sad that there were some people in some parts of Government who were not performing their duties and instead were used to a culture of attending ‘workshops’.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Mkhondo Lungu has asked Foreign Affairs
Minister Harry Kalaba to give a ministerial statement on what transpired at the United Nations General Assembly to the House by Wednesday next week.

This followed a point of order raised by Chadiza MMD MP Allan Mbewe who wanted to find out if Mr Kalaba was in order to remain silent after returning from the General Assembly.

The House also heard that Times of Zambia workers were owed K8,945, 618.71 in salary arrears as at August, 2014.

Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Poniso Njeulu said this in response to a question by Chipili PF MP Davies Mwila who wanted to know how much money Times of Zambia workers were owed as at August 2014.

    • Dr Scott is doing the synonymous with Donchi Kubeba style of architecture politics. The MMD government left the mealie meal prices at K38, but within a month of PF cadres in power, the prices have soured to a staggering K70 and more. Thus more than double of what the stopped listening to peoples and on its life line, MMD.
      As for Hon Lubinda shangwe,
That question should be placed on Mayor Mulenga Sata, since the issue was “resolved three years ago” according to you, or its the ongoing series of Donchi Kubeba!
PF must not play politics with the staple food and Zambians love nshima (porous) as it is the best satisfaction where food is concerned.
Diaspora I can be, nshima goes down. So PF, a staple food must always be cheap for the citizens.
      PF’s deaf too!

    • Hon Kalaba,

A foreign affairs minister coming from the United Nations conference and has nothing to inform parliament and citizens? Shocking!

How long should it take for PF and Hon Kalaba prepare a report? I guess giving them PF a chance to concoct more of lies and Don-Chi-Ku-Beba. Tired and exhausted with PF’s deafness and hypocrisy.
The whole lot of 40 delegates on tax payers moneys have nothing fundamental to report back to the country after United Nations meeting is nothing but total anarchy and PF must stop playing with democracy. Citizens have a right to be informed about necessitating their wellbeing.
Why didn’t the “fit, healthy and working” H.E. Chilufya M. Sata address the UN, if the former is acclaimed by PF?
Growing up is antagonistic to maturity level surely.

    • Why you do not go there?
They also have good hospital, free press, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, free press and RSA President gives LIVE press conference!!!
It must be REALLY bad to have also “Public Protector” and Police which is independent from political manipulation.
RSA is Real backward democracy Bwana Luapula Deriere

  1. What is mealiemeal? i can’t find this word in the dictionary, but from the text it seems its some sort of maize husks that underprivileged Humans who can’t afford RICE,MARCAROLINI,SPAGHETTI,NOODLES,WHEAT eat. It seems its alos very cheap cos. 25kg of the stuff only costing 100 kwacha

  2. THE ACTUAL COST OF M/MEAL IS ABOUT K20 PER 25KG FOR MOST ZAMBIANS. I SAY THIS BECAUSE MOST OF THE ZAMBIANS ARE GROWING THEIR MAIZE. AND THIS MAIZE CAN BE TAKEN TO A NEAR BY HAMMER MILL TO GRIND THE MAIZE INTO M/MEAL. I SPEND K12 TO HAVE A 50KG BAG OF MAIZE GROUND TO M/MEAL. YES THE PEOPLE IN TOWNS LIKE LUSAKA AND C/BELT WILL BUY M/MEAL AT K90 TO K120 BECAUSE THEY DONT GROW MAIZE AND MANY OF THEM HAVE A STEADY INCOME. OTHERS IN TOWNS ARE GOING IN THE OUTSKIRTS TO BUY MAIZE AND KEEP IT AT HOME. THEN ONLY TAKE A BIT FROM TIME TO TIME TO THE HAMMER MILL FOR GRINDING. A FEW PERSONS LIVING IN WRONG PLACES WILL DEFINATELY HAVE IT HARD. BUT FOR MOST OF US, WE HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE M/MEAL SITUATION. SO THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY FOOD RIOTS IN ZAMBIA. THE VP IS RIGHT.

  3. Shut up anyoko whiteman has messed with your head to despise our delicacy
Americans have no food they can call there own, even the rich eat it, let me tell
    You the advantages of nshima
We don’t have to watch your diet
We don’t have to worry about food poisoning
It’s filling , unlike some food you eat 30 minutes later you’re hungry
Simple recipe unlike some dishes loaded with a million things your body has to get rid of
It’s delicious than the wormy stuff you talking about

    • I agree with @ China, Anyoko eats Macroni & cheeses and thinks he is better than zambians eating Nshima.
Anyoko works at Walmart, you can’t even afford to buy your parents/relatives in Zambia a bag of unga, don’t forget anyoko that all your relatives in zambia eat Nshima.
