RB IS WELCOME TO REJOIN BATTLE FOR PRESIDENCY

We as the MMD youths have been vindicated over the happenings of the last few weeks regarding intentions by former Republican President Rupiah Banda to return to active politics.

When we first spoke about this matter, some people doubted our sincerity over this issue when we counseled President Banda and other old politicians to leave the political stage for young politicians.

Now that it has become apparent that Mr Banda wants to return, we have drawn up a six point plan why we believe President Banda should continue in political retirement. He is however welcome to rejoin the battle for the presidency for 2016 although he should be prepared for the following consequences.

1. Zambia requires young and emerging leaders and not political fossils.

2. What political strength does he have now which failed to make him win when he had the privileges of incumbency in the 2011 polls?

3. Currently RB is regarded as a Statesman, but by coming back into active politics, he will lose that status and get embarrassed by insults from party cadres.

4. RB is currently facing criminal charges before the courts of law and these cases may take long to be disposed even before 2016. The Zambian Constitution is very clear that a Presidential candidate should not have such matters standing against him at the time of nomination. What will happen if by such time, the cases are not disposed off?

5. Unless RB is forming another political party, MMD already has a Presidential candidate. He should tell us which party he is going to use unless he has been sponsored to come and destroy MMD.

6. The youth from all political parties should not be compromised to bring back very old politicians to govern this country when there so many intelligent, educated, visionary young Zambians to take this country forward. We appreciate that these are former freedom fighters who fought hard to bring Independence to Zambian but they should now retire and leave chance to the current generation. We shall continue consulting their wealth of wisdom.

7. RB as a father of the nation should have supported the current MMD President Nevers Sekwila Mumba and ensure that the MMD bounces back into power. By deceiving himself that he can win re-election as Republican President, Mr Banda is making a grave mistake. We believe deceiving oneself is dangerous.

  1. I WILL FIRST WAIT FOR MMD PRESIDENT’S REACTION TO THIS STATEMENT BEFORE I CAN MAKE MY OWN. I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT BOWMAN AND NEVERS ARE SO CLOSE, WAS NEVERS NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS STATEMENT BEFORE PUBLICATION?

    • That thug Bosman has 3 good points out of 6.
I never liked MMD or RB, my support ended at Chiluba’s loss to 3rd term bid.

    • Bowman, you are the man, your message is cutting through thick Skulls or heads of freedom fighters like a cutting tool equipped with diamond teeth. Yes, Banda and his likes must step aside we have had enough of his kind. We need to younger generation of leaders ruled this country now.

  2. As this is still an internal matter, I wont say much but suffice it to put this fact on record.

Countries that change leaders often have shown high chances of progress than those that stuck with a single leader who is recycled till death decides.

I think as a nation we need to stop relying on the good in men’s heart because this is fickle and changes a lot. We need to rely on a system so that even if we put a frog in State House, as is the case now, becuase of a good system, things should just function as designed.

RB was a good leader and is a good leader, but that is not enough for me to give him another bite at the cake. I think it is a turn for somebody else. We need to believe that there are other people in Zambia who can lead as well.

    • Spot on. Can you imagine if we had not removed Kaunda and replaced him with Chiluba? Chiluba might have had his own weaknesses but the improvements I am seeing today are attributed to him.

    • St Mary and chief bootlicker: do you realise that most of the infrastructure in we are currently using in Zambia was done by KK? Chiluba brought things such as foreign shopping malls, used Japanese cars, etc-that is not development-in fact it killed our economy. You need to bring about stronger evidence to show the benefits of change of power. Is Iraque better off without Sadam? Is Libya better off without Gadafi? Is Egypt better off without Mubarak?

    • @umuntu, you are off-script there completely. The change in the countries you cite cannot qualify in discussing the matter at hand that Chief alludes to. Why don’t you cite the USA, Botswana RSA, Chile, and countless other nations where power has changed frequently PEACEFULLY and LAWFULLY. Don’t pick and choose when you argue; establish a sane premise first. Is that too much to ask?

    • @Kasusula, try your best to view things from every angle before drawing a conclusion, and that is what my post what meant to help you do. Try to avoid speculation and making conclusions out of excitement. Check the statistics if Botswana & RSA economies are doing better than previous governments? even if they are, what evidence are you using to link that to frequent changes of power? Zambia has had more changes of power than Botswana, so why are not more developed than them? the point is; let us encourage leaders to retire but please do not link economic development to frequent power changes as there is no evidence. @Chief bootlicker has a good point on having strong and sustainable systems in place

    • @umuntu, naulubana fye iwe. We don’t want old fossils to continue ruling this country. We need progress and therefore need young and vibrant leaders to continue moving forward. Sata should be the last of the grandpas to lead this country, Zambia. Abash nyama soya!!! I am not a fan of Bowman Lusambo, but he is very right on this one.

    • @umuntu, I think you are the one speculating by implying that the change @Chiec Bootlickers alludes to is violent change. The examples you gave are borne out of irregular and in most part contentious change. Coming to your point of Botswana of course they are doing much better as a result of marching through peaceful change. Recently they had to their credit the entire Diamond apparatus relocating to Gaborone. I am of sure if you have been to Gabs lately but there are interesting signs of infrastructural and general economic improvement going forward. SA has its social challenges but the economic bedrock remains quite good. If we set a premise we can clearly debate further. Your range is a little disjointed, with due respect.

    • @kasusula, umuntu is just saying that there is insufficient evidence to link frequent change of government to economic development. Can’t you get that??? the violent change of government you are bringing about is a side track that you are trying to perpetuate. How have linked the so called development in Botswana to the change of goverment? have you considered other factors that can influence economic development? and where is your evidence to show that economic development? if you cannot digest those questions then it is not worth discussing anything with you.

    • @What, I don’t see you anywhere in the discussion before now. However, to cut a very long story short, I still point to my poignant note that if we SET A PREMISE, we can debate intelligently. You did not even digest that either, too hence your assertion. That to me is a caveat to invite a more pointed discussion than just wishy-washing all over the place. Bachelet in Chile was brought back (with her consent, of course) because she left on a high and most indicators were in her favor. That is one aspect we could look to when considering someone’s comeback. KK’s comeback was implicitly blocked perhaps implicitly disaffected citizens would have wanted him back. See what I mean @What? What is the premise of the arguement? On the narrow premise of not looking back, I support Chief…

    • umuntu, you are lying. It is not true that most infrastructure was done by KK. It was the British colonialists who left him with over 100 million pounds in the treasury (billions in today’s money). Kariba Dam started before KK took over. The roads and railways were built by the Brits.

Chiluba did more kilometres of tarmac in 10 years than Kaunda did in 27. More new companies like Zambeef and Trade Kings emerged under Chiluba than under Kaunda who nationalised many companies such as National Milling, Zambia Sugar and the retail chains that became ZCBC and Mwaiseni stores.

Today we have more new universities and schools than during UNIP era, including bridges, shopping malls and housing estates. Get your facts straight.

    • I think all the four leaders have had a bite of the cherry with different consequences to be fair. Their effects for their times have all been debatable. Time for a new breed please.

  3. True no fossils in 2016 n beyond. We can’t allow another situation were we are trying using government resources to keep the President alive. We don’t want another President who will spend more time in bed than in the office. RB shud try UNIP

  4. I have the greatest respect for RB, but am extremely disappointed to learn that he wants to come back and contest the presidential elections in 2016. Sir, there is no unfinished business to follow up after 2011, that’s the cruel fact about politics. Whatever you achieved or didn’t achieve then is water under the bridge. We must move on with new leadership, especially the younger generation. You belong to the past, not the present or future. Let those around you NOT deceive you into thinking you are the anointed one to take Zambia to greater heights. The best you can do is to support the current leadership of MMD so they can put up a good fight in 2016. May God bless you.

  5. easy ba bowman! point 3 manifested!!! oh and just a smidge oversight mr blabah mouth, your 6 point plan has 7 points. but you know what, ignore it, in MMD 6 is the new 7!

    • Obviously Bowman is a fascnating person when he is asleep, his six point plan is actually seven points and then what is worse is that he calls it a plan. Nowander leaders never want to retire you ve young people who still call themselves youths when in actual fact they are ballies Bowman himself is slowly turning into an adult. Any how to focus on the topic RB we love you a whole lot more than you will never know but we can’t let you come back you will embarrase all of us who have been going around Africa singing about how Zambian democracy and its politics are maturing – look at little SA Mbeki is undoubtadly one of the greats there he left unceremoniously and later people realised that they still needed him, you ve never heard him cry about coming back. So my advice to you is REST !!!

  6. @MMD Chief Bootlicker; You have created a brand of logical analytical thinking. I agree with you 100%. There is a need for a system that is clear than once you go IN and you go OUT, there is no turning back.

Can you for once imagine, a situation if for example, You die today and you go and stand before the creator to account for the sin you committed, once you realise that the load is heavy and you heading to hell, then you say, let me go back to life agin and go and correct my wrongs???It does not work out like that.

Spot on MMDChief, I agree with you

  7. First I want to ask the media houses like Radio Phoenix, HotFM Radio how much money have eaten from this conman LUSAMBO for u to continue givng him such publicity and quoting him using MMD Die Hard even after the MMD National Secretary denouncing him that MMD don’t recognise Die Hard thing? On the issue of LUSAMBO and RB it is very clear that this conman is been hired by NEVERS MUMBA and SATA MULENGA to kill MMD, I was there in 1995/96 we know how UNIP under KEBBY MUSOKOTWANE was bought by Chiluba and SATA just to finish UNIP, Musokotwane was mole UNIP President sponsored by Chiluba to cling to party Presidency even when he knew he could not win 1996 general elections, Chiluba pumped a lot of money for Musokotwane to win party elections because he wanted a weak UNIP candidate

  8. ndine mwana wako ??please when commenting remember what the big man said,BANDA ,WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS TIME THAT YOU DID NOT DO AT YOUR TIME.REST BIG MAN.

  9. It is immoral for NEVERS MUMBA to continue keeping quiet when LUSAMBO is busy killing the Party because of his double dealings with MULENGA SATA who is PF and NEVERS MUMBA who is MMD, it started from SOLWEZI when LUSAMBO went to campaign for MULENGA SATA, MMD Councilors from there complained to NEVERS but this pastor brushed the complain aside without cautioning LUSAMBO in the Media But same pastor was quick to discipline some senior party members who were calling their democratic right extra-ordinary convention. Is this not the clear sign that NEVERS MUMBA is mole President planted by PF to destroy MMD? MMD members should wake up and fight for your party’s survival because NEVERS and LUSAMBO are up to no good if the party wait for 2016 it will remain a shell.

    • @Ba Tulu Blu-Who’s killing MMD,is it Rupiah, pipo like you or Lusambo. In my view,it’s pipo like you and Rupiah who’re actually killing MMD.Rupiah belongs to the past,FINITO.

  10. Look at Israel. Russia, France, India, etc. In these countries presidents or are they prime ministers? Have bounced back years after leaving office. We tend to think very fallaciously in Zambia; we do not seem to have critical minds here capable of analysing events.

  11. “Go back to the land and stop shouting on mountain peaks in other people’s countries” Your country needs you! I have just returned from Zambia and the signs are there for all to see that we are still struggling economically. What does that tell you? It means we need our gallant citizens to do more for their country! Land is being bought by foreigners and you will soon be priced out of your own country. Rome was not built in a day but over several hundreds of years and now you have what you call Roma. Government’s duty is to ensure planning permission is sought for any structures that you put up and ensure the building standards are high and pass the safety checks. When all these structures adjoin through proper planning then you will have order in terms of accessibility and…

  12. mumba has no money that this man is looking for as for RB lusambo is in love with your money not your coming back come and see how he will use it.no need for old pipo you are of the some age with MCS.

  13. MUBITA just shut up maybe you are one of those who eats with LUSAMBO whatever money gets from MULENGA SATA. Some of us we comment what we know on this conman LUSAMBO ask him what business is he doing with MULENGA SATA that he is always with him, what does he go to do always at Kapyongo’s office even at state house he is always there with KADOBI what are these conmen do with these PF leaders? its these activities LUSAMBO is involved while NEVERS MUMBA is watching which makes us wonder what type of President MMD have. RB is not killing MMD actually he is reviving it just saying he is ready to come there are a lot of people want to come back to MMD even those who went to PF and UPND because of NEVERS’S failure to mobilize the Party and resources to organise the party will come back

  14. Among the 7 points proposed,POINTS; 2, 4,6 and 7 are very correct. 2. What political strength does he have now which failed to make him win when he had the privileges?4. RB is currently facing criminal charges before the courts of law and these cases may take long to be disposed even before 2016. What will happen if by such time, the cases are not disposed off? 6. The youth from all political parties should appreciate former freedom fighters, but they should now retire and leave chance to the current generation. 7. RB as a father of the nation should have supported the current MMD President Nevers Sekwila Mumba and ensure that the MMD bounces back into power. There is something very dngerous about Banda, he says if people of zambia decides, thats why he was cheated by same zambia in 2011.

  15. Its unfortunate the politics of double standard PF bloggers you are exhibiting on RB. It was only the other day Monday October 6, 2014 when Miles Sampa Metero PF MP was quoted in Daily Nation saying SATA for third term after his normal 2 terms, but you are the same chaps who are saying RB should not come back bcoz of his age what type of animal thinking is this?, CHAWAMILA KULUMA MBUZI, NOT MBUZI KULUMA GALU, and if RB is not a factor why all these panicking from PF and UPND that now even UPND can go to bed with BOWMAN LUSAMBO whom they hate so much? It is common sense that RB deserves his own term to prove to the people of Zambia his ability to manage the economy the three years he was finishing was for Levy and it was short down by FRED MEMBE and his Post Newspaper through lies

  16. I have said before that uncle Nama soya was an accidental president while uncle chumbu has been a disaster on this country. You will recall Nyama soya had said that he only wanted to finish Levi’s term but u turned and wanted to have another bite….with disasterous results.Lets go for the younger generation such as HH,Chipimo or….hey not….oh,please!

  17. No response to media stories from RB,so we don’t know truth yet.But If it’s true, I share Lusambo’s concerns. My observation is,If there is any politician today who should be content to happily leave the scene, it is RB.At 78 he’s done it all. Been ambassador,Governor, minister,CEO/chairman(banks&parastatal),Vice President and president. His failures outweigh successes- which only came in the last 2years of his presidency. He resigned from MMD leadership to avoid PF screening his term, also to avoid hard work of reorganising and motivating MMD after defeat. He left others to pick up pieces.Nevers Mumba has done that. RB never publicly defended Mumba when he was at the receiving-end of traitors. Now that storm is over and party is moving forward, he wants to come back! Sorry RB, No…

  18. The seven points this conman LUSAMBO is referring are all misplaced point 1 does not make any sense bcoz LUSAMBO is eating with MULENGA SATA whose father is 77 and is PF Candidate in 2016. Point 2 LUSAMBO was one of the conmen who cheated the old man in 2011 to use wrong strategy which made him lose elections, LUSAMBO was given a vehicle and money after cheating the old man that he has a big following of youths and it is believed that after elections LUSAMBO sold the vehicle. Point 4 Constitution says everyone is innocent until proven guilty so RB can file nominations if his cases delays. Point 5 it is NEVERS MUMBA who shud form his own political party of failures and leave MMD to people who can win elections. Point 6 which youths is LUSAMBO talking about when he is just alone

  19. Sorry RB, No vacancy. You behave like a spoilt child that only receives on a silver plate. You got the vice presidency on a silver plate from Mwanawasa, inherited the presidency of a party already in power. Even with limitless resources you still couldn’t win an election. Voices couldn’t be louder, retire, retire…and publicly be a wise of your party and support Nevers Mumba.

  20. No.4. Is the reason RB should not even consider making his Presidential bid.

A healthy adult with all his faculties functioning at ‘wap speed,’ would know it brings no honour to neither him nor the country he wants to rule. If you are potentially a fraudulent leader of yesteryear, why would wise citizens allow you to take up that position again?

RB, Pop on board the StarTrek Enterprise, and go try your luck on another planet, ……preferably at wap speed. We are tired of your ill considered gambit.

  21. Bowman; look at the ancients leading us now, some have served in all the governments since independence, how young is Nevas? ON TOP OF IT ALL HE IS A PREACHER? NOT A POLOTICIAN? AND TO BE HONEST i do not trust him at all; show us a sensible young person and we will support him or her. not a recycled polotician and no thieves please.

  22. RB Has a constitution right to stand. Being old should not be a weapon, but an appreciation of wisdom. Also weighing one self and understanding the times is very important equally. Its not everything Bowman has said are bad but can a food thought for RB

  23. I AGREE WITH BOWMAN. NO OLD PEOPLE FROM PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAYS. IN THIS YEAR OF JUBILEE , 50 YEARS AFTER INDENDEPENCE, IT WOULD BE THE MOST SHAMEFUL THING FOR ZAMBIA TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO WAS ALREADY IN POLITIICS 50 YEARS AGO.

THEN WHERE IS THE PROGRESS? RB WILL CAST A DARK SHADOW ON JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS.

THE BEST RB CAN DO, IS BEFORE 20TH OCTOBER THIS YEAR, HE MUST CATEGORIACLLY APOLOGIZE TO THE NEW GENERATION FOR HABOURING THOUGHTS OF A COME-BACK. NEVER , NEVER,. RB SHOULD BE PART OF JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS NOT AS A POLITICAL CANDIDATE BUT A FATHER OF THE NATION.

AT LEAST ARCH-ENEMIES, LUSAMBO AND DORA SILIYA ARE AGREED AND ARE BOTH AGAINST OLD ANCIENT PEOPLE IN ACTIVE POLITICS. DORA IS FIGHTING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE INTO POLITICS NOT ANCIENTS. ON THIS ONE I SALUTE HER.

  24. RB has every right to stand & the lot of you can decide through the ballot. What is frightening is none of you who have commented have given an alternative option. Why do you think these old pa’s have been leading us? Amongst those involved and young in politics, not a single one currently is a wise option, maybe HH. Those in the ruling party have disappointed big time, all have a rat in the pocket, their linen is well dirty. I feel it will be wise to vote wisely & change fast if things fail as most people don’t wait 4 or 5 years, the people should govern!
