FORMER Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) executive director Bonnie Tembo, 50 has died. His close friend Austin Lungu confirmed today the death of Mr Tembo.

He explained that Mr Tembo who was until his death a Patriotic Front(PF) member died at a girlfriend’s house in Lusaka on Thursday around 16:00 hours upon arrival from Chipata District.

“He just called his girlfriend who was also paying her last respect to late President Michael Sata at Mulungushi International Conference that he has just arrived from Chipata and when the girlfriend returned home he found Mr Tembo in unconscious state. She booked at a taxi and she was rushed to Chingwere Clinic where he was pronounced dead,” he said. He said white stuff was coming out from the mouth of Mr Tembo.

He said the body of the decease was lying at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary while funeral is being held in Lilanda.

And Police at Matero Police Station are holding the late Mr Tembo’s girlfriend Ms Chanda, 41, for both her safety and circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Tembo.

“We are awaiting the response from the family of Mr Tembo as to when they intend to bury so as to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death,” Zambia police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said.

  1. In Luapula we don’t do sex when body of an elder is in the house, and especially after body viewing. I am not saying that is what happened.
That is why men sleep at funeral home away from women. It has nothing to do with mourning, but in fact it to stay away from all bed activities.
I wish I could write in Bemba. I could express my wisdom better.

    • Dying at a girlfriend house, doesn’t mean he was having sex

I feel for the family and shame the girlfriend wouldn’t say no to someone who is married.

      Thought are with his family

      Thanks

True, it is not only in Luapula where the practice of men spending nights at funeral houses happens. It in fact common practice in most regions of Zambia.
In fact several years ago one senior church leader was heard thanking men who were not members of the church to which a dead man belonged. His words of thanks went as follows: “we are very thankful also to all the men who are not members of our church for allowing us to sleep with their wives throughout this mourning period”..You can figure out what his thought was in a local language BUT the meaning was completely different in English!

    • Correct traditionally it was never allowed even in the time of Shaka Zulu, men never met with the wife’s and girlfriends for the period of one year. That when shaka was mourning his mother nandi. Please couples abstain from sex during this national morning as such you will end up like Bonny Tembo.

    • Sorry kukamba kuti uyu munyamata atusiya analiko wamasobela but kunkala straight forward muhyakumba ndifuna kuonga zikomo. Ba church baimba pa malilo, zikomo! Koma chikulu maningi, nionga zikomo kubazibambo bapa shekisheni apa….bamene balola kuti bakazi babo tugone nabo iswe pamalilo! Sinikamba kugona kwina nikamba kugona pa malilo! A. Lungu will miss you brother man. Sekuru Tembo famba zwakanaka dara!! R.I.P

    • @Nostradamus: Your reasoning only makes sense if you do the deed at night only. Rumor is he took Viagra but he has heart problems. This reasoning is the same as asking a widow if she had ever “licked the wood” of the deceased because if she had, upon seeing the dead hubby, she would die with him. Such nonsense!

    • Iwe stop lying unless if there is a relationship with the dead. Normally it is always if you are mourning your close relative, you are not allowed to have sex. The guy was just sick and tired of traveling. MHSRIP

    • I pity the woman who’s name is “dragged through the mud” …..when a man dies in a hotel room it does not mean that he died on top of the lady who spent the night with him. This stooooopid rumor has to stop!! Everytime things like this happen innocent women are taunted and insulted by idîots who did not even witness what had happened behind the closed doors!!

  2. This story is strange to say the least. Anyway, this is the first time I’m even hearing the name Bonnie Tembo so let me not sit here and pretend that I care. One of the worst things for me during a time like this is to constantly hear lies upon lies being spoken publicly, in the name of politeness and “paying respect”.

  3. Yakwe bululu wandi Tembo watusha? I remember those days during the NCC, you were so full of life and laughter. Awe cabipa sana bululu wandi. Naumfwa ubulanda Tembo nafwa.

  4. Instead of just saying crazy staff,Tembo is gone,he ran his race, people let’s reflect on our lives, what kind of race are we running? Let’s learn from this and repent from our evil ways
