THE National Policy Committee (NPC) of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has adopted party president Edith Nawakwi as their candidate for the presidential election.

And Ms Nawakwi is confident that Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Justice Irene Mambilima will ensure that the presidential election is free and fair.

Ms Nawakwi told a media briefing yesterday that she will deliver a new people-driven republican constitution if elected into office.

“We have been going around the country mobilising and establishing party structures in readiness for the 2016 general elections. We have done all the work we needed to do and we are ready for this presidential election,” Ms Nawakwi said.

She said during election campaigns, FDD will explain its manifesto to the electorate so that citizens can understand what the party has to offer if elected into office.

Ms Nawakwi also said she wants to see a poverty-free Zambia.

She is also confident that Mrs Justice Mambilima will ensure that the presidential election is free and fair.
“Following the 2011 elections that she presided over, I am confident that she is desirous to provide a fair election. I do not think anything can divert her agenda as she wants to go in history as a person who presided over fair elections,” Ms Nawakwi said.

She also said the Zambia Police Service is doing its best to ensure peace during the transition period.
The FDD leader said Zambia will remain on the path of stability and peace before, during and after the presidential election.

Ms Nawakwi said it is now time for the country to have a woman President.

Ms Nawakwi becomes the fifth candidate to be adopted presidential candidate after four other opposition political parties.

Other adopted presidential candidates are Nevers Mumba for MMD, Elias Chipimo of the National Restoration Party, United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilima and Green Party of Zambia leader Peter Sinkamba.

  1. All the best ba Edith Nawakwi. You have been are a very hard working woman and consistent in your political career, unlike those without presidential qualities but with the ability to shed crocodile tears. God Bless you mama.

    • Whom do you mean, be frank and open. You mean Edgar Lungu? He achieved something, he stood on podium at Jubilee… That was great achievement.

  2. It will be
    Race1. HH vs Never Mumba
    Race 2: Nawakwi vs Chipimo
Race 3: Edgar (druken master) vs Sinkamba (Marijuana smoker-Jah live)
    Re-run:
HH vs Nawakwi (Intimately tight!! 50 – 50%)

  3. Another time waster! The tragedy of Zambian Politics is that anyone can form and run a political party from anywhere, thereby, denying us Zambians the real benefits of democracy – which are effective checks and balances, because the opposition gets so fragmented to the advantage of the ruling party – as Mwaliteta said. It is their right, but that right sould be reasonably exercised. In Zambia, we need two or three parties only, as alternatives; not 10s of parties – which result in duplicate alternatives. So, at most, let there be the past (MMD), the present (PF) and the future (UPND or Narep – realistically)!
