The MMD officials in Northern Province have rejected the decision by National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint former president Rupiah Banda as their presidential candidate for the fourth-coming presidential by-election.

MMD Provincial Information Secretary Cephas Bwalya told ZANIS today that the party in the area will not recognize Mr. Banda’s candidature because his comeback was done against the party constitution.

Mr. Bwalya said party members were instead united and will rally behind Dr. Nevers Mumba for presidency.

He said MMD members will not tolerate the assuming of political power through unconstitutional and undemocratic means by any person regardless of their status in society.

Mr. Bwalya appealed to all peace loving MMD members countrywide to condemn and reject the decision of NEC if unity is to prevail.

He said the party in Muchinga, Northern and Luapula Provinces was intact and will not recognize Mr. Banda’s candidature.

Mr. Bwalya further added that as far as the Northern Province MMD leadership was concerned, the decision of their NEC was null and avoid.

He said genuine party members will not allow the former Head of State to hijack the party leadership at any cost.

However, the opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) in North-western province has declared to support the candidature of former president Rupiah Banda in the forthcoming presidential by election.

Provincial MMD Chairperson Kabukisha Sansakuwa said in Solwezi that decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to pick on Mr Rupiah Banda as a presidential candidate is the right one and the entire leadership in the province is happy.

Mr Sansakuwa said the party has re-organized itself and has started its campaigns for the presidential by election set for January 20, 2015.

Mr Rupiah Banda was a presidential contender in the 2011 general elections and lost to the late President Michael Sata.

Mr Banda retired from active politics in 2012 and Dr Nevers Mumba succeeded him as party president.

MMD National Executive Committee (NEC) yesterday suspended party president Nevers Mumba for alleged gross misconduct and appointed former President Rupiah Banda as its presidential candidate for the January 20 by-election.

    • Flight HH2015 !!!

Flight to Posterity! Integrity! n Prosperity! for Mother Zambia!

Sponsored by Mwana Wa Chi Ngoni! Tribe Counts NOT for a Civilized Generation of Ours!

Viva HH! Viva Young One! Viva the Successful Ones!!!

    • We know the old man never loved his dying wife, she paid the bills at the farm from her teacher salary while he played nsolo .shameless old twat

  1. I’m still very disappointed with Ka Rupiah Banda, yes, you heard me right! Ka Rupiah Banda. This is what happens when elderly people fail to respect themselves. We lose all the respect for them.
He has not promoted succession leadership, and I don’t think us Zambian are that naive to give him the chance to loot national resources again. Lisholi!!!!!

    • People would have had more respect for him if he’d channelled his efforts into supporting and guiding Mumba.
Seriously, what is it that he plans to do this time round that he failed to do the first time?? Plus, if it’s really for the benefit of our beloved country, why not pass on the knowledge….?

  2. Agreed.

This old man is a thorn in our side. He is so shameful.

What could possess a man to behave in this openly desperate way? Correct, Banda and his family are fugitives of/from the law! They seek to hid from prosecution, protected by the highest political office in the land.

I pity Dr Nevers Mumba; to work so hard and then be manipulated out. Although the writing was on the wall for a long time and he could have bowed out elegantly.

  3. Too bad the Northerners never got to see the star arising from the East. Nevers Mumba was a square peg in a round hole.

  4. If RB stood for Rupiah Kasonde, the story from Northern would be different. Now the thought of a Banda coming back! That is what drove the PF campaigns to crazy heights in 2011, just the thought of a Banda having defeated Sata in 2008 was enough motivation to get it at all costs including lies to the Barotse people, and selling the country to the cartel. But what is not yours does not stick to you, as you saw last three years people did not enjoy their presidency at all, kuma clinic na mama clinic yo siyana siyana throughout.

  5. They are very wise. He’s an old man who sadly was called out of retirement by Mwanawasa (big mistake). He should go back to Chipata and continue retiring permanently!

  6. I am just surprised why Dr Mumba did not file an injuction in the courts of law today against the decision by MMD NEC. Anyone with explanation?

  7. The Northerners playing the tribal card? My personal view is it will be wise to have RB as a stop gap measure, stabilise the ship, incorporate likes of Chipimo, Mutati, HH, get them ready to take up the reigns in 2016. Nevers is tainted, would never convince the majority, doesn’t have it. With all in PF wanting Plot 1, shows what they think. We can’t allow our great country to go through the mud anymore, RB up to 2016 sounds like a good idea.

  8. RB 2015= Corruption, delayed constitution, no new ideas, little hope for the youth, many foreign trips, a BAD ZNBC, Chanda Chimba III, Henry Banda, Dora Siliya, Munkombwe, more old leaders, election malpractice, brown envelopes etc.

  9. Why is it always tribal when Bemba region participates in politics. When Easterners including Muhabi Lungu bring RB through the window it is okay. Who said they wanted RB – Easterners! Did he qualify – No! Or is he the best in MMD- No! Here the Northerners are saying follow the constitution. How does that become tribal? It looks like the idea is to wipe out all Bembas from politics. It happened when UNIP lost. After Chiluba ‘intelligence’ told him the people did not want a Bemba – which people? Let us just follow democratic principles.

    • When you are tribal you reap the consequences. There is no question that Bembas have always been tribal. It will not be easy to evade the tribal tag.

    • Bembas are the most tribal elements. Yes the most tribal: Check out their appointments in Foreign Service, Perm Secs, MDs of Parastatal Companies, CEOs of quasi Government or any Senior Government position its as though Zambia is inhabited by one tribe only. Same on you tribalists.

  10. MMD SECURITU SHOULD TIGHTEN SECURITY AROUND NEVERS MUMBA DUE TO THIS DESPERATE OLD MAN HE DISAPPEARED TO THE VILLAGE SOON AFTER THR UNIP WRANGLES WHICH SAW THE MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF WEZI KAUNDA.

THIS SAME OLD MANWAS IN THE CENTRE OF THE WRANGLES AND HE HAD WANTED TO CONTEST THE ELECTION. THOSE WHO ARE OBSERVANT THERE IS ALWAYS TENSION BETWEEN KK AND THIS OLD MAN.

HE IS A DANGER TO SOCIETY. BUT IT’S TOO LATE FOR HIM AND MUHABI HAS MADE THE BIGGEST POLITICAL BLUNDER OF HIS LIFE. THIS IS GOING NOWHERE. NEVERS WAS DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED AND GOT A. LANDSLIDE VISTORY. NEVERS WAS A SMALL FISH BUT THIS ACTION HAS MADE HIM THE LEADING CONTENDER IN THE WHOLE ELECTION. ALL EYES ARE ON HIM. HE IS THE ONLY ONEOF THE WHOLE LOT WHO QUALIFIES TO STAND AS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE. HH HAS…

    • We declare Psalm 91 and the blood of Jesus over Dr Mumba and family and all his supporters in Jesus name.

  11. banda is hired by lungu to destabilise mmd so lungu and pf can win and then lungu drops charges against banda. my opinion, why sudden interest in politics. these chaps talk among themselves

  12. Money can corrupt this why pf insisted On pipo freely contesting the election not what mmd is doing we the zambian people can not afford to have recyled materils in state house we need a david now or never fellow zabian let as vote wisely not be corrupt with money you may endup selling your soul for money RB no no no we campgned for you in 2011 we lost thou in my ward as ward chairman than you won after Lossing an election you thanked the people of zambia and waved goodbye . Mmd should go for a convetion muhabi has presidial ambitions so he feels he will take over from) my friends let as remain united 2016 here I come ?

  13. u cant oppose the decision of the highest policy making organ of the party. MMD just suspend the Northern Province executive for insubordination as well as tribalism. They are not real MMD members.

  14. Ala bee useless chap running away from sickly wife and via for presidence against also a shamless widow who starts politicking barely two weeks after burying her husband.

The most painful of all this is that Kambwili thinks he can rule…..oh damn, this is crap
