PF secretary general of the Miles Sampa led faction Bridget Atanga has disputed the testimony given by the returning officer of the second Patriotic Front (PF) general conference Germano Kaulung’ombe.
Mrs Atanga told a media briefing that Mr Kaulung’ombe’s statement leaves much to be desired.
“Mr Kaulung’ombe is on record as having publicly declared that the quorum was formed. He inspected the registration with a view to establishing that the quorum had been reached before allowing voting to commence and later declared he was satisfied with the numbers present,” Mrs Atanga said.
He said Mr Kaulung’ombe allegedly never brought the existence of any injunction against the proceedings to her attention and that of her deputy Anthony Kasolo.
Yesterday, Mr Kaulung’ombe said during the second general conference on Monday around 15:00 hours, the electoral commission became aware of the High Court order restraining PF secretary-general Bridget Atanga from convening another general conference.
Mr Kaulung’ombe said he was alarmed as a lawyer that the person tasked by the courts with serving such an order was harassed and assaulted.
He further said only 1,127 delegates were registered and voted instead of the minimum 1,856 delegates.
“Because of these concerns regarding the court injunction and matter relating to the quorum, we brought these concerns to the leadership of the PF but was told to go ahead,” he said.
Mr Kaulung’ombe said he was happy with the approach of Acting President Guy Scott as he told him to do that which was right.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba has said that the Patriotic Front (PF) groups led by Mr Lungu and Dr Scott will reconcile to the amazement of their opponents.
And Mr Kalaba has reiterated that President Sata anointed Mr Lungu to take over as PF president.
Mr Kalaba said President Sata had a lot of confidence in Mr Lungu, who was his lawyer for a long time.
“This is why President Sata left Mr Lungu as Acting President most of the times when he was out of the country on duty,” Mr Kalaba said.
He was speaking during a Hot FM special radio programme in Lusaka yesterday.

Kaminamisa Lungu did not get any votes in ballot boxes at the conference so there was no voting, but Miles amassed 900 votes which shows there was an election and he is duly elected PF president
I think our you must not have been following proceedings in their true light. Miles and the other lost candidates did not even amass the required delegates. Plus the convention happened Sunday as was called by the ever acting President. The returning officer who Masebo and Atanga hired refused to declare Sampa a winner due to under count and a court order. Should I draw a Venn diagram for you? PF cadres are amazing. You keep on saying that Sata preferred Lungu because he would take on “the Cartel”, yet the same Sata protected Mmembe to the extent of firing judges and bringing in a Malawian to investigate them. Both elections were a sham. They cancel each other. While Lungu was voted by a horde of thieves who voted by a mere show of hands; certain technicalities stand in the way of democratically elected Miles Sampa.
Miles and EL must sit down very quickly before History judges them wrongly…….8000 plus delegate and by show of hands renders EL an illegal PF president. As if this was not enough, EL refused to double check the register to make sure that the correct delegates will vote…..Why?? The meeting was also presided over by Inonge…wrong!!!! EL’s election was Monocracy….shame. As for Miles, everything was done correctly apart from the small number of voters and hence, the quorum issue comes into play. It is true that both congresses had some dark spots. The way forward is to come together and strike a a way forward. This is a hallmark for good leadership. If you can sort out this one, the sky will be the limit.
If Mr Sata was here, he would have ordered these ladies to go to the gym.
PF must own-up to their own failures and return to the drawing board. It is their culture of violence that is now haunting them. And who in his or her right mind would want such a party to be Zambia’s flag bearer?

The problem is “Muzungu Opusa”. He failed to provide leadership to the whole process because he had personal interest. He called for the General Conference and failed to pass even even to greet the delegates. I’m told he just used to sit in Kabwe town sipping his beer. He expected people to sit there waiting for him? He must be a joker!! He is the causer of all these problems.
Lungus main campaign theme seems to be continuing Satas legacy. Well maybe its time to inform him that Sata actually failed dismally as a president. Terrible legacy to continue. It is precisely Satas policies that the people are trying to erase. No disrespect intended but Sata was a horrible and failed president. He succeeded in many ventures and portfolios but he failed at being a president.
Mr. Kalaba should not use the fact that the late president left EL in the acting capacity as testmony to the fact that he was anointed by MCS as President elect. Sata left EL because he was the one perceived to be not a threat to the leadership. MCS never anticipated that he would pass on unexpectedly and therefore a weaker person from the take over point of view was the right person to act. There is no proof to grant that EL was anointed as Kaseba can attest to this. The solution is to sit down together as a PF family and decide a way forward. There is no winner or lose. Let EL and Miles strike a way forward because these injunctions are taking a lot of useful time meant for the National Presidency. Swallow your pride for the sake of everyone because after 20th January, you will be jobles
