Edgar Lungu explains why he failed to attend scheduled rallies in Northern Province yesterday

PF President Edgar Lungu arrived at Samora Machel Airport in Mbala this morning to kick start the Northern Province campaign rallies.

The Patriotic Front’s scheduled rally in Mbala yesterday afternoon failed to take off as anxious PF cadres waited for for their leader who didn’t show up without explanation.

PF President Edgar Lungu explained this morning that Heads of state and friends of the party invited him over the weekend.Mr. Lungu left the country on Saturday and returned last night.

“Yes I was out of the country. I was invited by friends of the party. Heads of state and others. People that wish that we succeed. I was never in any hospital in South Africa or anywhere else. It looks like some people can only win if someone is sick or dies? I am here and let’s start the program.”

According to a PF campaign schedule released by PF secretary general Davies Chama last week PF President Edgar Lungu was supposed to return to Northern Province on Saturday 27th December 2014 to continue with his marathon presidential campaign. He was supoosed to hold rallies on Saturday in Kaputa, Nsama and Mpulungu districts.

On Sunday, 28th December 2014, the PF President was supposed to attend a church service at St. Francis Catholic Church in Mbala and thereafter hold two rallies one in Mbala and then later fly to Mungwi District.

On Monday 29 December 2014, Mr. Lungu was to move to Muchinga Province where he was expected to start his program by paying a courtesy call to the family of late President, Michael Sata in Mpika and later hold a rally in Mpika. The Northern Province tour was scheduled to end today and then the Eastern Province tour was to start on Wednesday 31st December.

    • I don’t buy this and I know even Katondo boys can’t buy this anymore. EL’s moves are shrouded in secrecy and underground moves for all to see. He has now started a “donchi kubeba” even to his cadres. I can sense a lot of disappointment from Katondo Boys who has become the barometer of the Lungu yo-yo effect campaign trail. Now you see now you don’t. For the sake of peace, please PF, do not get involved in any underhand dealings during this election. In short do not try to rig the election as you keep going to get ideas from RM in Zims. He isn’t worth it and has reached the end of his sell-by date – actually that is an understatement, he expired 2 decades ago.

      Lungu went to Zimbabwe to ask for campaign money from Mugabe because Nsanda is sick and can not authorise payments in his state. Munagagwa the acting president of Zimbabwe paid for the air craft Lungu is using in his campaigns today and on wards.

      We in UPND know the plans to take HH out of the race a few days before the elections are well of ahead of PF’s schemes.
      If Zambians want to see happenings in Zimbabwe come to Zambia then they should vote for Lungu.

      Lungu’s aim is to ride on the back of the Bembas and then get rid of them once he is in power just like Mugabe did to the Ndebele.

    • Lungu is serious danger to our country now. He visiting foreign countries to import different methods of rigging the elections. In the end non of the those methods will work because God has unleashed a tower of babel up on the PF. There will be total confusion if they decide to rig the elections just like the confusion witnessed during the jostling of power.

      Lungu has auctioned Zambia to crooks in Nigeria(IBB the supporter of Boko haram) , Zimbabwe(Mugabe the killer of his own people) and now Rwanda( Kagame the oppressor of his people).     • All the credit and thanks should go to GS for protecting the national resources that could have been squandered and been free for all if he did not put is foot down. This should now set the tone and pace for the future election processes. Like I have indicated before Zambia will come out from the other side better and bigger on the democratic front. Clearly there will now be a clear divide between parties and government in future processes. Bravo Zambia. But why did it take Guy Scott for this realization to dawn. Do we not have principled ‘indigenous’ Zambian politicians? Whatever the case Zambia will come out better than ever.

    • One thing I have noticed is that ELnever apologizes. GS apologized when Bishop Chomba insulted HH. Last Saturday he was supposed to be in Northern Province and his cadres were waiting for him. He didn’t turn up and today he says, “Yes I was out of the country …..” No sign of an apology. It shows arrogance!

The Post Newspaper yesterday revealed that Lungu has been diagnosed with the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) a status when the kidneys stop working well enough for a person to live without dialysis or a transplant. This type of kidney breakdown is permanent. It cannot be fixed at all. If you have ESRD, you will need dialysis or a kidney transplant to live. And some unrealistic people want this guy to be president? Are you serious? We all get sick and work but we should not allow an ESRD patient to president on national matters as it is a strenuous role and responsibility. It is unfair to Lungu and the nation to push Lungu to State House when he is sick. Let us vote wisely. We are tired of these presidential by-elections and we deserve normalcy.

  37. The man Edgar is down to earth, very humble but steady in his acts. Has and shows a lot of respect to the people and also commands a lot of respect from people. There seems to be a natural liking of this man by people. He is just a wonderful man who has just discovered his yet another route of his God given life which he may not have known all way back.   44. Fellow country men, whether in PF or opposition. Let’s be alarmed at the countries this guy is associating with himself. Nigeria is a lawless country,Rwanda has endured war. Instead of campaigning,he is criss-crossing countries whose human rights records leaves much to be desired. It is enough to point out that we have in his work and behaviour another proof of the multiplicity of the factors which must be taken into consideration by the people when voting, and another proof of the fallacy of trusting to one set of characters alone.
    I foresee a situation where Zambia after 20 January is descended into war brought about by one Lungu. The desperation is so evident. At the moment,I don’t have trust in the Zambian army or the intelligence corps. I foresee a military coup, if he lost.

      Nigeria is not on a blacklist. I don’t like Nigeria’s general politics, but I think we should attempt to build bridges with all African countries so that Africa can become a united brand.

      A lot of responses from opposition supporters are veering on the hysterical side with wild speculation.

      I think it is clear the circumstances surrounding PF Candidate selection and the fall out from that. The continued hostility to Edgar Lungu is very troubling as it shows our Democratic processes allow for individual politicians to behave without honour.

      Lungu is doing good.

    • I’m not planting seeds of hatred,I am greatly concerned. We have one country and one peaceful country. I am within my democratic right to question a leaders association with countries which are even now ungovernable! And it should concern you as well if you are well meaning Zambian. Why not go to ‘normal’ countries without a history of human rights abuse? Why specifically Nigeria,where people are mimed day in day out?
      I am concerned and so you should be. I am a normal working Zambian with a family and would like reassurances that my concerns are unfounded.

The discordance he’s likely to bring will not only affect us fellow country men,It will affect even those who are close to him. Rwanda is a military as well as Muslim state,Nigeria is similar. How does one justify this behaviour of associating himself with these countries?
    The army has got a primary responsibility of protecting all Zambians not individuals such as Lungu, Inonge and cartel.
    What Xaviour Chungu should know also is that, in case of unrest in Zambia,his extended family will be affected. So as you organise these trips,think about ZAMBIA and how lucky we are.

  56. I can’t understand why EL supporters can condone such inconsistency and/or lies.

    Where is the truth? Logistical problems or out of the country? Who is telling lies? His campaign team or EL? We did not ask for the first lie on the program, they just released it on their own.

    How can one go to a foreign head of state but yet face logistical challenges domestically. As in “sorry my children, daddy was having difficulty reaching the living room so he went to the neighbours house”.

    • @ OneZed, You are not the only one perplexed at the blind loyalty exhibited by PF supporters. Some of us are nonpartisan and are interested in reading and contributing to sensible issue based discussions affecting/bound to affect our country if we choose our leaders carelessly. The problem standing out is that PF supporters deliberately shun intelligible discussions and want to cower others by shouting their party support loudest.

      I feel the pain and sadness for people like Jessie wamu town, shinkamanyela, appleseed, and many others for their well meaning discussion points that falls on deaf ears. Perhaps it is because they are on that party’s payroll.

      But at the end of the day, it is important for those burying their heads in the sandto remember that we all have one country to…

    • It is not about him being a threat iwe. It is about him conducting himself in a manner that respects the electorate. None of the people you have mentioned is darting in out of the country meaning ghosts of heads of states.

      Mumba and Nawakwi are better debaters than Lungu, we know that. If that was the only criterion, we should be quaking in our boots but none of the other contestants is playing the disappearing act.

      Neither Mumba not Nawakwi are cancelling scheduled rallies and coming back with a stoopid smirk on their face that they were meeting friends of the party.

The man to begin with is not a presidential material and it appears he is being pushed to ascend to the top. Just before the man is given the authority to be president he as started sneaking out of the country. What lesson can we learn from this kind of behavour being depicted by one Edgar Lungu? Its a pity that most Zambians are gullible who doesn’t look at the character of a person but just vote for the sake of a party. If my party which I support decides to field in a corrupt leader then I should definitely switch to another credible leader. Lungu in this case has questionable character.
