Power foil Nkana raid on Richard Kasonde

Power Dynamos have alleged that their Kitwe arch-rivals Nkana attempted an audacious raid to snatch their prized midfielder Richard Kasonde.

Sources at Arthur Davies allege that the incident happened last week during the New Year period.

Kasonde was an instant hit at Power in the 2014 season after Tennant Chilumba signed the defensive midfielder from Kabwe Warriors who went on to score 10 goals for the Kitwe side.

“A high ranking executive committee member from Nkana took Richard Kasonde to see the Nkana chairman with the intention of signing the player,” the source said.

Power officials and the teams technical bench have declined to comment on the allegations.

Kasonde has since returned to Power for preseason training ahead of their departure for a seven-day training camp in Livingstone on Tuesday.

The development comes in the wake of Nkana’s loss of midfielder Kelvin Mubanga who recently made a shock move to Power on a two year deal.

Bwalya had been at Nkana on loan for the last two seasons from Miseshi Blue Stars who subsquently sold the player to Power in December.

Meanwhile, Power on Monday night also kicked off training under floodlights ahead of next months 2015 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, first leg game against Al Khartoum SC of Sudan.

Power will travel to Khartoum on February 14 and later host Kwesi Appiah’s side in the final leg on February 28 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
