United Party For National Development (UPND) in Eastern Province says the move by former republican President Rupiah Banda to support the candidature of PF’s Edgar Lungu in the forthcoming President election is aimed at ensuring a better deal for himself.
UNPD Provincial Campaign Team Coordinator Maxwell Mwale says the former head of state wants to secure a deal for himself and his family as opposed to the people of Zambia.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Chipata today, Mr Mwale said the UPND is not shaken by Mr. Banda’s stance because his decision does not reflect the wishes of the people on the ground.
He stated that the actions of the former President are a clear indication that he does not support democracy.
“We want to react to one statement made by the head of state that president Hakainde Hichilema would take Zambia to a one party state, that puzzles everyone’s mind because if President Rupiah Banda is interested in promoting democracy he should have continued to support his party MMD on matter the circumstance,” he added.
Mr Mwale stated that Mr Banda should have considered MMD is the party which made him become the fourth President of Zambia as opposed to supporting another party.
He said PF has destroyed agriculture which is the mainstay of the province adding that the situation has subjected people to abject poverty.
He stated that tobacco farmers had to take their produce to Lusaka to because there was nowhere to sale in the region while those that sold maize to FRA have not yet been paid.

And UPND Eastern province Chairperson, Paul Thole has urged the people of Eastern Province to vote for HH who he said is a farmer and eastern being an agricultural hub will benefit greatly.
Mr Thole said nothing tangible has been done in Eastern Province especially in terms of agriculture and even to Mr Banda himself as a tribe’s man who also has court cases which were influenced by the same party he is now supporting.
Over the weekend, former President Rupiah Banda endorsed Edgar Lungu candidature for the January, 20, 2015 elections.

Most people are saying that PF has destroyed agriculture in Eastern Province, if this is anything to go-by, I doubt if Lungu will get more than 70% of the votes from that region. To compete with HH, Lungu needs 80% of the votes from Eastern power, can Lungu get that, big?

Banda and Muhabi Lungu are radioactive politicians. Anything they touch becomes contaminated with lack of principle. The endorsement by Banda has backfired on the Lungu campaign. Edgar sold out and the PF has now been compromised to the extent that the KUMAWA CARTEL will now be calling the shots.
Only you can control your success and happiness. Work hard and be a good person for its own value, not from fear of an imaginary god or belief in useless annointing/magic oils and con-men “prophets”

Eastern Province is not just Chipata. Yes the Chipata rally was well attended. There was a rally in Chadiza with a handful of people in attendance. One thing I have noticed with most rallies, spin doctors are scared to give aerial view so that we see extent of crowd. The bottom line is that it’s not about pulling crowds. Some parties are even scared to hold rallies in small districts for fear that their rallies will be deemed flop. If a politician humbles himself and goes to hold a meeting in deep rural area with 50 to 100 people in attendance, chances of convincing those people are higher than those in major cities who have already made up their minds

Maxiwell is day dreaming. He knows very well that RB is very respected man in Eastern Province. He is the voice of Eastern. It was RB that changed Easterners to turn to MMD in 2006. If RB’s endorsement of incoming President Lungu does not affect UPND, why are UPND officials in Eastern and every where crying over his endorsement? They had to hold a press briefing to groan over RB’s endorsement. Somehow it cannot affect UPND because UPND does not exist in Eastern. Guyz, these UPND people are lying to themselves why I say so is that if RB chose to support HH they would not condemn him insteady they would have been using his endorsement for them as platform for campaigning.Guyz you very well know that HH can never get more votes in Northern, Muchinga,Luapula,Copperbelt, Lusaka and Eastern provinces than EL.And look at the constuencies that PF represents in Lusaka and copperbelt. So this is the truth that all UPND followers should live to remember.Don’t judge by the people turning on HH as a sign of victory from these areas.
