MMD president Nevers Mumba says he will make access to education mandatory for all children if elected into office in the forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking on a Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation television programme dubbed `Know Your Candidate’ on Thursday, Dr Mumba said every child must be given an opportunity to get educated in order to develop the country and to effectively fight poverty.
“Education gives you an understanding of your freedoms, liberties and choices to enhance democracy and enlightens one on life’s situation in order to free Zambians from the shackles of poverty,” he said.
Dr Mumba said he believes that Zambians should be allowed to be innovative and assisted with loans at low interest rates to enable them establish small and medium enterprises to help create employment.
Dr Mumba also said he will use his experience as a diplomat to create a conducive investment climate and to improve the economy through collection of adequate revenue from taxes, job creation and infrastructure development.
The opposition leader also pledged to ensure that the fight against corruption is embedded in the governance system and to bring perpetrators of the vice to justice.
On health, Dr Mumba said he will pursue policies to prevent diseases through good sanitation, provision of clean drinking water and effective waste management instead of curing them.
Dr Mumba also said he will enhance press freedom by ensuring that journalists effectively contribute to national development without fear of losing their jobs.
This is craziness! Where in the world is education mandatory? Let us be serious bane.
