The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has directed all radio and television stations in the country to restrict themselves to only communicating the official Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) results to the public.
IBA Director General Josephine Mapoma said radio and television stations should not communicate unofficial results or engage phone in programmes that allow for speculation because this would cause alarm and panic to the public.
Ms. Mapoma said in a statement to ZANIS today that all radio and television stations should adhere to the electoral code of conduct.
The electoral code of conduct states that, “all media shall disclose accurate election results and shall provide updates on the progress of the vote counting process and shall not speculate election results but shall broadcast confirmed election results as they are announced and published by presiding officers”.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mapoma has reminded radio and television stations of their critical role of promoting peace and unity in the post-poll period.
She therefore urged the radio and television stations to be responsible in their reporting adding that these are the demands of responsible journalism.

IBA you have got it wrong here. The media house are free to announce results released at the polling stations or totally stations. This is because after that is done the results are in the public domain. The only responsibility the media house would need to indicate is that the results are yet to be verified by ECZ. Therefore, there is nothing illegal about announcing results which are in the public domain.

I smell a rat here. What’s the point of PVT then? ECZ is not being transparent in this process. The results belong to the voters and not ECZ. They should not sit on them. What’s so difficult about releasing the results as they come? Something tells me you are not calling the shots on this, someone else is.

That’s the way to go if you want to ever win. You cannot keep trying the same failing answer after repeating four times.Try something else or else your sanity may require checking. UPND under a non-Tonga can do much better. Tongas can also do better nationaly on some other party, NOT UPND. By the way going by results in Bweenga, Kalomo, deep Tonga land, it is true EVERY Tonga is UPND.

Well Praize GOD for whoever wins the election whether Edgar or HH. It is GOD who gives leaders. He is sovereign. He does as He pleases with us here on earth. HH is already in panic mood, storming ECZ officials at mulungushi and flying helicopters to places where people are still voting are desperate measures by HH aimed at seeking public sympathy.
Well HH has lost, the majority still want PF, no one should any illusions about that. This is a resounding defeat. The conduct of zwd has been quite disappointing. Let HH rest.
