Brebner Changala advises President Edgar Lungu to be his own man

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu must remain his own man and should never allow himself to be held captive by any individual or group of people whose interests are anchored on sabotaging the smooth governance of the country, civil rights activist Brebner Changala has said.

Mr Changala said President Lungu had given Zambians hope that he would remain his own man by declaring that he was not going to allow himself to be a hostage of any group of people infamously known as the cartel which he said had the notoriety of hijacking State institutions and rendering a legitimately elected President useless.

Mr Changala appealed to President Lungu to be guided by the law and the Constitution in his decisions and should be strong in dealing with a clique of individuals that was almost making the country ungovernable under late president Michael Sata because they had allegedly hijacked Government institutions.

He told the Daily Nation yesterday that the conduct of former Attorney General Musa Mwenye who misled Cabinet after the death of president Sata and threatened President Lungu with treason who was at the time Acting President was disgraceful and should never be allowed to happen again.

Mr Changala said it was his expectation that after the death of president Sata, Mr Mwenye should have consulted his principal at the Ministry of Justice how to legally handle the transition but he was shocked that he (Mwenye) erroneously decided to report to then Vice-President Guy Scott who did not have the instruments of power.

He said there was suspicion that Mr Mwenye had his own team outside the Ministry of Justice that influenced his decision, rightly or wrongly, to threaten Mr Lungu and other Cabinet ministers at the time with treason if they were going to insist that the then Defence and Justice Minister continue acting as President.

He said what transpired during the time President Lungu was forced to hand over the instruments of power to Dr Scott or face treason if he was going to refuse must be taken care of to avoid the occurrence from repeating itself in the future.

“It is from this occurrence and many others before and after the death of Mr Sata that I appeal to President Lungu to be his own man, guided by the Constitution in his presidential decisions. He must not allow himself to be a hostage of any individual or group of people whose interests are anchored on sabotaging national governance. A clear situation was when Mr Sata was sworn in as President, he embarked on a crusade to remove very serious court cases from our judiciary. Late President Sata handed Finance Bank back to Rajan Mahthani and grabbed Zamtel from Lap Green when the matter was in court,” Mr Changala said.

He explained that while Mr Sata was taking such actions, those who are now criticizing President Lungu did not see anything wrong and even encouraged the late president to continue on his crusade.

Mr Changala said the members of the cartel were finding every action of President Lungu wrong adding that when some citizens suggested that former president Rupiah Banda and other citizens’ cases be dropped, the clique rose and condemned the suggestion.

“This time around, the members of the cartel are finding everything wrong with what President Lungu is doing. Former president Banda’s cases were purely instigated at the behest of the cartel. The cases were clearly a product of political hatred. I want to tell them that what is good for geese is good for the gander. This hatred for Mr Banda and other citizens must be stopped because history is replete with injustices which are a product of our notorious cartel which has the competence to hijack State institutions,” Mr Changala said.

  1. Ok it makes sense so now Lungu before you go to your holiday please tell Mmembe and his friends when you come back you must find they have paid the money back or else wapya muzi

    • Very True that Mr Changala. I also expect H.E. Edgar Lungu to stop talking about Sata’s vision, because he is now the President and must be preaching HIS OWN vision for Zambia. By doing so he will be showing a lot of leadership and prepared to take responsibility as opposed to the possibility of him failing to account because he would have merely been pursuing someone else’s vision. The whole world knows he took over from Sata and both the country and the late Presidnet’s family have had CLOSURE on the Sata chapter. Please EL take us forward now!

    • Is Mr. Changala suggesting that handing over of Finance Bank to Dr. Mahtani was illegal? Dr. Mahtani is not a shareholder of the bank, why his name comes in all the times and in all irrelevant issues? Is Dr. Mahtani Zambia and Zambia Dr. Mahtani, or it is sheer jealousy of failed people that gives them kick to go after successful people in life?

    • Changala – not that your opinion matters but this insinuating that charges against RB should be dropped is just too predictable. We all know that RB helped Kaminamisa Lungu during campaigns and people said RB will be a free man after rendering all this help. Those who stand to gain from Lungu’s presidency like Changala will obviously champion RB’s case being dropped.

A clear demonstration of politics of the belly.

Changala – your organization is so irrelevant to Zambia and should not even be making headline news. This is LT’s fault at the end of the day. Please report opinions that matter

  2. more is yet to come.Kambwili is fuming.Lungu discsrd this northening group will make ur governance difficult.the national team has been leaving late because of Kambwili.discard them

  3. If the World can have 150 Presidents of Mr Lungu`s type, then it
    can become a peaceful planet.

May God help our President to rule this great nation.

    • THE MEDIOCRITY OF ZAMBIANS AT ITS BEST. CAN THE MEDIOCRE CALIBRE OF PRESIDENT LUNGU BE THE BEST STANDARD BY WHICH TO MEASURE PRESIDENTS? IT IS SICKENING TO HAVE PEOPLE THINK THAT LUNGU IS A GOOD PRESIDENT. THE MAN WENT TO ATTEND AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE SOON AFTER BEING SWORN IN AND WITHOUT APPOINT HIS CABINET; WITHOUT FORMING HIS GOVERNMENT HE PLANS TO GO ON HOLIDAY. TO ME THAT IS A CLEAR SIGN THAT THE MAN DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORK OF HIS OFFICE. HE IS INEPT AND INCOMPETENT. HE IS FORMING THE GOVERNMENT IN A CASUAL MANNER, MAKING APPOINTMENTS AT RANDOM WHEN AND AS HE FEELS LIKE DOING IT. HE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE IN A HURRY AND DOES NOT REALISE THE IMPORTANCE AND NECESSITY OF HAVING A FULL GOVERNMENT IN PLACE. IN OUR NAIVETY AND DOCILITY WE CONSIDER HIM THE MOST EXCELLENT.

  4. Lungu should first begin by renouncing the dangerous declarations he made earlier, that he has no vision, that he will rely on Sata’s violent legacy and to govern Zambia with the advice dished by KK and RB. These two guys have nothing to offer Zambia. They failed and were justly kicked out. Lungu hasn’t a vision but he can at least take a look at his PF’s plagiarised manifesto, it can give him some clues to help him conjure up some vision he can call his own. How does he operate without a vision? And he must stop drinking excessively, who knows, the fog might just be lifted and help him see clearly.

  5. He was 100 % right to say he had no vision of himself but continue to work on what was left off. In that discover things much needed to do. The roadmap for the party was there already. Up to Lungu to follow it or divert as he goes on in order to narrow down. So the vision is what you see happening. Wait for 2016 then you will see what the man is going to surprise the world as in his humility he is going to be judged by his works.

  6. Brebner. Just because Sata instigated the withdrawal of certain cases in court isn’t reason enough for EL to do the same RB. Simply put two wrongs cant make a right.
You are an ironical character Brebner. You are suggesting that EL must be his own man at the same time insinuating that he must agree with RB to have his corrupt cases dropped from the courts of law.
You seem to have vested Interests here Mister. Just own up and stop hiding under the guise of a ‘ human right activist’.

    • Is Mr. Changala suggesting that handing over of Finance Bank to Dr. Mahtani was illegal? Dr. Mahtani is not a shareholder of the bank, why his name comes in all the times and in all irrelevant issues? Is Dr. Mahtani Zambia and Zambia Dr. Mahtani, or it is sheer jealousy of failed people that gives them kick to go after successful people in life?.

  7. Brebner is right.

Those cases for RB were clearly acts of Kabimba and the cartel. Acts of hatred and personal vendetta. Acts of vindictiveness because of the Zambian Airways saga. In the spirit of brotherhood, Please President Lungu consider an amnesty for Banda.

I mean Banda is the reason why Lungu is called HE today. You can see how the cartel used Scott to cause confusion in the PF. The cartel is relentless and the earlier you dismantle it and pardon Banda the better.

Remember that nothing is going to appeal to the cartel now, no matter what you do. You might as well do good to those who have done good to you. Because the cartel are certainly wishing you ill. Look at how Guy Scott personally fought you under the cartel. Delaying you from campaigning. And who helped?, RB.

  8. So when changala says be ur own man he is saint.insuates banda is inocent-so all of us must say ye!how do we kno u, banda etc want to replace z cartel that gives u so much diahrea? Man let z law take its course

  9. OUR ORGANIZATION WISHES TO ADVISE LUNGU TO BE CAREFUL IN THE WAY THE POSITIONS ARE FILLED UP HIS APPOINTMENTS. THE PREVIOUS GOVERBNMENT OF THE LATE PRESIFENT MADE A ISTALE OF LISTENING AND FILLING UP POSITIONS RECOMMENDED BY THE CARTEL. THE CARTEL PRETENDED TO BE GENUINE ADVISORS WITH THE HELP OF KABIMBA WHEN ACTUALLY THEY WERE POSITIONING THEMSELVES.
IT IS INDEED BY GOD’s GRACE THAT THIS COUNTRY HAS BEEN DELIVERED FROM THE INFIDELS, THE EVIL AXISIS OF THE LIKES OF THE MMEMBE, SCOTT, KABIMBA, MWENYE, MASEBO, ATANGA, THE LIST IS ENDLESS.
THANK YOU GOD ALMIGHTY. YOU TRULY REIGN IN THE LIFE OF MORTAL MEN.

    • Perhaps you call them the cartel cos you are jealous that they are law abiding citizens who want the best for zambia’s people. Meanwhile you support a disbarred lawyer with an alcahol problem. This is the leader you choose because you know you are no better than him and never will be…perhaps.

  10. Ba Changala you think so low,am disappointed in you. i think there are few credible in Zambia. you can go as far as supporting RB,the corrupt father? nosense, RAINBOW PARTY IS GROWING FAST YOU WILL BE IN PROBLEMS WITH YOUR 18 MONTHS GOVERNMENT

    • But the Rainball boss(Kabimba) has few questions to answer.Remember the issue of Trafigula (Oil deal). He is dead scared, just watch the space.

  11. The best is to let the courts deal with the RB cases if he is innocent they will let him go than Lungu involving himself. There are a lot of people in courts why just think of one person?

  12. Mr Changala, you are so biased, there is no cartel only the bunch of criminals surrounding Lungu. You are telling us it was wrong to follow the constitution and the Law after Sata died. Taking the law into your own hands is bad and selfish, the people surrounding Lungu were trying to do that that is why he was fired. God help us with this new president who has all but killed Sata’s party.
