Press Statement for Immediate Release

DR NEVERS MUMBA IS HERE TO STAY

As MMD youths, we find the renewed calls for MMD President Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba to step aside laughable, callous and plain boring.

The lead story in today’s edition of the Daily Nation (04/05/15) headlined ‘Nevers Mumba should go’ quoting a suspended lower ranking member of the party is not only a sorry attempt at journalism but an empty and futile exercise.

We believe that the Daily Nation could have devoted that space in the newspaper for other developmental stories than covering statements issued by a disgruntled party member by the name of Cheembe Daka whom we know is being paid by enemies of Dr Mumba to issue derogatory statements against the MMD President.

Zambians might want to be reminded that this Daka is the same cantankerous fellow who was captured on the front page of the Post Newspapers urinating in the council chamber sometime last year.

Whoever chooses to work with or indeed listen to statements from such an individual must have their minds checked.

We find these calls laughable because everyone with a brain is able to see that Dr Mumba has presided over the MMD at one of its challenging periods in its history.

We should all be fair and appreciate the circumstances in which Dr Mumba found himself leading the MMD. The party had just suffered a humiliating loss at a general election and a lot of people in the party were confused. It had to take Dr Mumba’s unique leadership style to reorganise the party and make it attractive once more leading to some old and selfish retired politicians opting to attempt to hijack it.

It is public knowledge that PF candidate Edgar Lungu and UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema both used MMD structures in our strongholds by spreading falsehoods that the MMD was in an alliance with respective parties for the election.

Our appeal is for Kabinga Pande and his team to stop using the name of the party in their desperate activities to remain relevant in politics. As far as we are concerned, Mr Pande and his cohorts remain expelled and are no longer members of the MMD. He was a very divisive figure when he briefly served as Chairman of our party and we are happy to see him go.

The MMD lost power after 20 years of running government. Expecting Dr Mumba to completely turn around the MMD after three years is not only being unrealistic but shows failure to appreciate modern politics.

A clear case is that of the ruling Patriotic Front. It has found itself with a weaker mandate just three years after being in power with its future so uncertain. The amount of tribulations that Dr Mumba has had to face in his short stay at the helm of the MMD cannot be compared to any other politician in the history of this great nation.

If the MMD is dying as some people would want us to believe, why then do they want to cling on to a party that is dying? The expelled MMD MPs who has since rushed to seek shelter from the courts should have just jumped ship and joined either the PF or the UPND if the MMD is unattractive.

We wish to make it clear to all MMD members including those still fighting Dr Mumba that we as youths of the party are ready to defend him and the constitution of the MMD. We will not allow finished and disgruntled politicians with no value to the party to derail Dr Mumba’s plans for the MMD.

We further wish restate our position that Dr Mumba’s mandate runs up to 2017 and we firmly believe that he will renew his mandate beyond 2017 because of the courageous leadership he is providing to the party. He is the most popular politician in the MMD as can be seen by the landslide victory he attained at the last convention.

As National Youth Secretary, i also wish to direct all youth leaders from ward, branch, constituency, district and provincial levels to stop issuing media statements forthwith. These uncontrolled releases of statements to the party are fuelling further tension in the MMD. This has to stop NOW.

Issued by: Mr Bowman Lusambo- MMD National Youth Secretary & Die Hard National Youth Coordinator

  1. I don’t get the title of this article. Who in their right mind would want Nevers to stay?? This crooked clergyman should be chased away from any place he tries to settle.

    • Bowman is right.

They should stick with Mumba. He was democratically elected. If they are not content with him, the door is all there for them. Alternatively they could challenge him in 2017.

      Thanks
      BB2017

    • The statement is coming right from the centre of his gut.Couldn’t agree more with the New National youth chairman. No one can question Lusambo’s conviction on the MMD project and his loyalty to the party in good and bad times.

If it means remaining with a handful of true MMD members of Lusambo’s ilk, it’s far better than a parliament packed with the likes of Kaingu, Mutati, Pande, Chituwo, Musokotwane….either perpetually sitting on the fence or habitually rebellious.

    • I simply love this guy. He wages in at the right time with some legitimate issues that no one feels bold enough to speak on.

I hope Lusambo will soon beat the drums to galvanise voices demanding RB’s complete disassociation with MMD.

We’ve had enough pandering by this old political prostitute who has outlived his usefulness.

  2. And he shall continue losing!
Yesterday, Nevers Mumba was “begging” for a job from His Excellence Edgar Lungu. Surely Dr Mumba has caused by elections unnecessarily when in fact, the general elections are not far from now. He lost lambently, but he is not to blame alone, RB is the main culprit found to have denatured MMD.
Remember Dr L.P Mwanawasa fired Dr Mumba for RB, and the wounds’ of the two are rife, especially that the latter is claiming to be in retirement, whilst his right leg is apparently in MMD, & left in PF. Is this the new political game of “wider”?
MMD should expel RB, unless Mumba is siphoning to do a chinchillas Donchi Kubeba sickness of causing by elections so that PF gains more MPs!
What a joke! Firing MPs will not solve Mumbas loss, but RB.
    The Skeleton…

  3. MMD is really a dead party. Hooligans like this Bowman are now issueing press statements? Bo Mumba, bo Mbulakulima, chi Bowman get it in your hard head that MMD IS DEAD! I would rather vote for any other party apart from MMD and UNIP.

  4. Nevers mumba sold. NCC to MMD. HE sold victory ministries to pastor lubuto nsofu… In the same way he will sale MMD to the knwn free masonist in zambian politcs. The man loves money monga kaya.

  5. HOW DID SUCH KIND OF ELEMENTS START ISSUING STATEMENTS ON BEHALF OF THE PARTY? IS DIE HARD A WELL KNOWN STRUCTURE OF THE MMD AS A PARTY?……………..NEVERS MUMBA MUST GO

  6. to stay is no problem. where to stay is the problem. MMD used to be a mansion. now it is shack. situation wont change. Doesn’t he mind?

  7. I see Bowman now wants to entrench himself in the MMD party structure in an attempt to legitimise himself. He used to call himself MMD Die Hard Youth wing coordinator just a few months ago and was record confirming that it was not part of the official party structure. Now he is MMD Die Hard National Youth Coordinator and National Youth Secretary. Bowman who elected you or worse still appointed you to these positions? We can see what you are doing… trying to asap power from legitimate organs of the party and office bearers. You are just a riffraff, opportunistic, hired gun with no legitimacy to be issuing statements on behalf of the party. If Nevers Mumba really want to restore sanity in the party he should begin by denouncing this Bowman

  8. This statement is proving to everyone that NEVERS MUMBA is so desperate and wants cling to MMD Presidency not because he loves the Party but for monitory gains he is making money using the MMD. He is surviving by cheating his donors that when he becomes Republican President he will give them contracts. How can LUSAMBO claim that NEVERS’S mandate goes up to 2017 when he knows very well that he came in a by-election when RB resigned in 2012 and that was not a regular convention but an extra-ordinary one just to fill that vacant. Article 14 (1) of MMD Constitution is very clear it says “A regular convention of the Party shall be held every five years” so the life of this NEC is ending on 17th April, 2016 when MMD had the last convention, so what is this political criminal LUSAMBO…

  9. NEVERS MUMBA wants to kill MMD completely that is why he is insisting wants to stand in 2016 again maybe he was bought with huge amount of money kill MMD, Iam very disappointed with people like Mbulakulima (mbulamano)and Machungwa who are suppose to be the founder members of the party to join hands with this NERVERS political parties serial killer, surely it is not fair to push for this pastor to stand again in 2016 with such humiliating results in just ended election even from his own regions like MUCHINGA his home prov he got 1,170 votes while in Luapula where Mbulakulima and Machungwa were campaigning for him got 1,983 votes in Northern 1,084 in Eastern Prov the stronghold of MMD was even beaten by Erick Chanda – 1,956 against 1,245 for NEVERS, surely how do u push for such?

  10. ……is there any hope for our dear MMD to regenerate/resurrect and bounce back in power in the near future…say in the next 10/15 years…in its current form/state?
MMD and FDD are the only two parties which are not synonymous with and individuals….PF-Sata, NAREP-Chipimo, Heritage-Miyanda, PP-Mulongoti, UPND-Mazoka etc…. So MMD are supposed to lead as far as democracy is concerned…….

  11. WELL SAID BOWMAN. YOU ARE A MAN AMONG MEN. WHETHER MUHABI LUNGU LIKES IT OR NOT, NEVERS WILL SURE RULE ZAMBIA ONE DAY. ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. HE SEEMS TO BE DOWN BUT DEFINATELY NOT OUT. KACHINGWE TRIED, NAMUGALA TRIED, KAINGU TRIED, DORA TRIED, THEN IT WAS MUHABI AND FINALLY ALABI.

BUT THEY HAVE ALL FAILED TO REMOVE THIS MAN OF GOD. NEVERS GOD HAS REMOVED THE BAD EGGS FOR YOU. NOW YOU WLL HAVE A TEAM WHICH WILL RESPECT AND OBEY YOUR LEADERSHIP. DON’T GIVE UP. WE THE 65% WHO DID NOT VOTE ARE WITH YOU AND ARE WAITING.

  12. Good article indeed better than some of these political scientist. In every organisation discpline, loyalty and integrity are needed. Those MPs who have been fighting the mmd presidency lacked these traits of leadership. Even in football if a player is scoring own goals because he has been bought you fire him regardless. Please MMD leadership dont allow these sell outs near your party president. They can even kill him. they really hate Dr. mumba. Boman begin to mobilize your fellow youths in Lusaka and country wide especially those who have not yet registered as voters. Dr. Mumba and team are here to stay. Dont even go to the convention until September 2016.
