ZAMBIA is in May this year scheduled to host 10 African leaders for a meeting to discuss reforms of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said in an interview that the 10 heads of State have been chosen to spearhead reforms of the UN Security Council by the African Union (AU).

Mr Kalaba said Zambia was selected to host the meeting at the just ended AU heads of State in Ethiopia.

He said the reforms are expected to culminate in a permanent seat for Africa on the influential UN Security Council which has the power to veto decisions passed by the UN Assembly.

  1. This is encouraging and promising for President Lungu. Within a week of being president he has mediated over the South Sudan conflinct and from what I have been told, the factions have now signed a peace deal following his humble advice. I am confident that he and other 10 African heads of states will make it possible for Africa to have permanent representation at the UN with voting powers.

    • Kalaba please twapapata, always inform the nation the cost of these meetings. Secondly Lungu should chill with his foreign adventures , he has a divided house to unite.

    • THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT AND WAY FORWARD. BESIDES, HOSTING THIS KIND OF CONFERENCE SIGNIFIES THAT ZAMBIA’S PRESENCE IS VERY MUCH RECOGNIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY. SO NO NEED FOR EL TO GO ON A SPENDING SPREE TO DRUM UP THE EXISTENCE OF ZAMBIA. DEMOCRACY ITSELF IN ZAMBIA IS LOUD ENOUGH TO HAVE ZAMBIA RECOGNIZED.

AFRICA’S PERMANENT SEAT IN THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL HAS BEEN LONG-OVERDUE. IN FACT LOOKING AT THE SIZE AND REPRESENTATION OF AFRICA, AFRICA MUST HAVE AT LEAST TWO SEATS IN THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL.

  2. This Lungu. 10 leaders at one time visiting Zambia. Question why didn’t they visit when our beloved King Cobra was president. Anyway, good news but still I cautiously applause president Lungu.

  3. 10 African leaders will just inconvenience the lives of poor ordinary Zambians. Hosting 10 African leaders is not something to be happy about. Let the current Govt concentrate on helping the poor and buying medicine for the hospitals.African leaders are all crooks just coming to Zambia to dine and dance at expensive hotels.Lungu seems to be too excited and trying hard to impress the outside world whilst neglecting the plight of ordinary Zambians. This is what HH calls mediocre leadership with no vision.
HH will take over in 2016.

    • @10 WEMBWA, AU WILL SPONSOR THIS SUMMIT. NOT ZAMBIA. ZAMBIA HAS JUST BEEN APPOINTED TO HOST THE SUMMIT. IS THIS HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND. OF COURSE GRZ WILL SPEND BUT A LITTLE MONEY AS IN ANY CASE. HOWEVER, THE BENEFITS OF HOSTING ARE HUGE.

  4. ZAMBIA HAS A PRESIDENT WITH NO VISION. EDGAR LUNGU IS ABOUT TO BECOME ONE OF THE WORST PRESIDENTS TO RULE ZAMBIA.
AM GLAD HE WILL ONLY BE PRESIDENT FOR 17 MONTHS.

    • People will always find faults. He engages with the international community, that becomes a problem. He doesn’t ( as was Satas case) that’s a problem too. What exactly do you want? You need to accept this man is your president. This bitterness you have is not helping you in anyway. President Lungu, you are doing well. So far, so good!

  6. So meeting other crooked African leaders is the new development in Zambia.
“IF YOU WANT TO TASTE A MAN’S TRUE CHARACTER,GIVE HIM POWER.” Lungu ‘ s character has been tasted and we now know that he is fake…the real leader with proper leadership qualities will take over in 2016. No other than Hakainde Hichelema…..

  7. Is it really possible that we (Africa) can have a seat at the UN security Council??

Will the imperialists and coercive ( USA, Britain, France, and the majority of the so called western world) washingston consensus thinkers allow that to happen…?

  8. Ivory Coast Vs Ghana is on today. Ivory Coast are in the finals with the coach who was scolded by most LT bloggers as a PE teacher kikikikiki. Where is our local coach wajata janza? W seriuosly need a muzungu coach if Zambia wants to reach the finals.

    • These are just games!
      Entertainment!
Muzungu coach feeds his children from it.
You starve your own Janza’s babies by it.

      Wake up Zambians, Galamukani!
