Over 600 Kasama pupils share two classrooms

Share

Authorities at Chileshe Mwamba Primary School in Kasama district have appealed to government to create adequate learning space for the over 600 children who are sharing two classrooms.

Chileshe Mwamba PTA vice chairman David Chishimba said the school only had a 1 x 2 classroom block which is being shared by over 600 pupils from grade one to seven.

This came to light yesterday when Kasama District Commissioner Kalanga Bwalya held a community meeting at the school which is serviced by only four teachers teaching 10 classes.

Mr Chishimba noted that there was need for more infrastructure to cater for the learning needs of the pupils at the school saying the 1 by 2 classroom block was in a deplorable state therefore posing a danger to the safety of the children.

Acting Headmaster Jonus Chituti said teaching has been very difficult because the school has only four teachers who were strained to teach 10 classes.

He said the school administration was sometimes forced to combine classes just to help the pupils in a learning environment.

Mr. Chituti blamed the poor infrastructure and congestion as some of the contributing factors to poor performance by the children at the school.

  1. These are the stories that Zambians need to get fired up. Unfortunately, no one cares about this. All they care about is talking about Lungu or HH or Kambwili. The moment Zambians focus on real issues that affect them such as these is the moment that we will a new and promising nation.

    • @Choma Maanu,

You are right. We spend too much time fussing about non issues which don’t affect us directly. Majority think we shouldn’t complain over such issues or rather view such issues as non issues accepting the poor standards being served whilst others fill their pockets. The bemba have a saying that “umwana ushinda atasha nyina ukwipika”. We who live in the diaspora, especially Western world, can see how politicians exploit us.
Politicians allow people to dwell on tribalism at the expense of developmental issues. It is indeed very sad.
Churches should be more instrumental in some of these areas but most pastors like politicians are busy getting rich at the expense of tax payers and tithe givers.

  2. While people voted for PF . Only development is Zambia is in lusaka and only great east road . Education really wait down since 1992 until today . People wanted change during KK and thought it was much better . 1985 masala primary was looking like international school or roads park .

  3. @choma the reason we concentrate on leadership issues is because everything else stems from the type of leadership we have. Zambia is aland of plenty unfortunately mismanagement makes it seems as though we don’t have much to share. Now we are securing loans on behalf of our neighbors which if defaulted and judging by history is almost inevitable unless we have a change in the corridors of power and have someone that actually knowss what they are doing we will be stuck with. Is this the development PF was talking about? We told you so.

  4. Serves them right for keeping on voting for useless leaders. Keep on shouting your Infintu ni Lungu/PF and STOP complaining about “sitting on top of each other in classrooms”. Your voting patterns indicate that you are happy with status quo

  5. Just get another eurobond as usual and construct two more classroom block and stop wasting our time! This country needs a eurobond for every project or program including a referendum.
