The Lusaka City Council says it is satisfied with quality of works at the newly constructed East Park Mall on the Great East Road.
In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Council Public Relations Manager Habenzu Mulunda said the Mall was fit for trading.
Mr. Mulunda said building engineers at the Council occasionally check on the quality of the works being done.
He said the engineers are content with the standards the contractor is working on and wondered why members of the public are concerned.
Mr. Mulunda said the Mall is not a threat to the health of the customers as the contractor has followed laid down standards
There have been concerns from the general public about the quality of works at the mall and that shops are operating before works are completed.
But in response to the public concerns, Mr Mulunda said East Park Mall applied for a partial occupation certificate and it was granted.
He said this gives them the right to trade even though works were still in progress at the Mall.
East Park Mall is located at the corner of Thabo Mbeki and Great East Roads on UNZA grounds.
It’s the kind of story that needs a picture ba LT
The Italians are crooked to the bone. The mall is an outcome of bribery. The fellas got contract in Mansa and paid K2 million to Willie Nsanda and overbilled RDA K13 million. How much city council get?

how can you have three or is it two malls within a distance of 2-3 kilometres. Bushe abantu babafye mu great east road? so ifwe fwebamuma komboni like chazanga, and ba some of us from emmasdale, matero should always connect to town then great east road?
1. East park mall pa unza
2. Arcades (though its not really a mall, but pa zed we call it a mall
3. Manda hill pa show grounds.
We are now looking at malls as development. Zambia has lost it.
Focusing on the wrong things.
Try better electricity supply, better roads, better approach towards agriculture and tourism, better hospitals and educational facilities and lastly better governance.
And then, you can build as many malls and brothels as you like
And please stop celebrating building an escalator. One escalator that is two feet high.
Really you do not need escalators , so embarrassing
Robin, just because you are able-bodied, you think wheel-chair bound citizens do not need to go shopping?
Malls don’t add anything to our economy. They sell products made in South Africa & China.
Zambia with all mallls on the great east road lol
The parking lot leaves a lot to be desired. The pavings are already eaten up, poor quality on that part. This is not just hear-say but something I personally witness. They should redo those especially those pavings near the shops.
Peace!
