Ex-FAZ Committee member Henchel Chitembeya is blaming the local football governing body over Zambia’s worst display at the CAF Under-20 Championship in Senegal.

Zambia has exited the youth tournament after losing all their group stage matches to Mali, Ghana and South Africa with 1-0, 2-1 and 5-2 score lines respectively.

Chitembeya said the poor selection of coaches and players for the junior teams was costing Zambia.

He charged that coaches and players for junior teams are not being picked on merit but on patronage.

”Only players with connections to FAZ are being selected to the under-20 and 17. These players and coaches they select are not the best in the country,” Chitembeya said.

He added:”Even the preparations for our national teams are not good enough.”

Chitembeya said the Kalusha Bwalya led FAZ executive committee has outlived its usefulness.

”This executive has reached its shelflife. We need people with fresh ideas to run football.”

    • It is just sour grapes iwe, when did these junior teams last qualify now even Simata has something to say, just by qualifying we are on the right track it is a learn curve those team like Ghana and Mali are always there so for Zambia it is not a train smash it is good experience just to be there, for me Kalu is still the best FAZ president Zambia has ever had because he has something to show for it, ask Simata Simata what he achieved as a FAZ president only cabinet full of excuses come on guys get a life and let Kalu improve Zambian football because he understands it.

  3. Kalusha and his executive are a let down. They have no idea of how to manage sports in the country. They have to pack and go. It’s very disappointing to see that even under 17 and under 20 football trams who were doing very fine are now worse.

  4. The 5-2 humiliation by South Africa just goes to show how our football standards are legging behind South Africa.WHY? SAFA have come with a policy where a certain percentage of players in the first division must be under 20.In addition each premier league club have development teams.
What has happened to our youth football structures?
FAZ go and bench mark from Mali.Their youth teams have performed exceptional well at the recent under 17 and on going under 20 CAF championships.
The decent thing to do for Kalu and crew is to step down. You are clueless and leading a bunch of broken, clueless and useless coaches.

  5. Why the name of kalu comes in!was kalu in the team under 17 and 20?The problem we have in this country is selection” of players,by the local coaches. They pick players on patronage, not on merit. They always pick players in lusaka and copper belt.they should have been in all 10 provinces of Zambia. Therefore us a country we need expatriate coaches to run football in this country.
