Ex-FAZ Committee member Henchel Chitembeya is blaming the local football governing body over Zambia’s worst display at the CAF Under-20 Championship in Senegal.
Zambia has exited the youth tournament after losing all their group stage matches to Mali, Ghana and South Africa with 1-0, 2-1 and 5-2 score lines respectively.
Chitembeya said the poor selection of coaches and players for the junior teams was costing Zambia.
He charged that coaches and players for junior teams are not being picked on merit but on patronage.
”Only players with connections to FAZ are being selected to the under-20 and 17. These players and coaches they select are not the best in the country,” Chitembeya said.
He added:”Even the preparations for our national teams are not good enough.”
Chitembeya said the Kalusha Bwalya led FAZ executive committee has outlived its usefulness.
”This executive has reached its shelflife. We need people with fresh ideas to run football.”
