ZESCO says the construction of the 330KV substation in Lusaka South at the estimated cost of 35Million USD is on course.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata said the main objective of the project is to supply stable and reliable power supply to the proposed Lusaka South Multi -Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ).

Mr. Kapata said this is in an effort to provide bulk supply point in Lusaka to reinforce the 132kv Sub transmission ring.

ZANIS reports that the Utility company’s spokesperson said this in an interview in Lusaka, today.

He said the main objective of the project is to supply stable and reliable power supply to the proposed Lusaka South project.

Mr. Kapata said the project commenced last year and is expected to be completed by September 2015.

He said the contracts for both the Substation and Transmission line have since been signed.

Mr. Kapata said the transmission line and substation contractors have identified possible project financiers and discussions are in progress.

He said the Substation contractor has been mobilized and clearing of the site has since been completed.

  1. When are these people going to invest even a mere $2 million in a solar plant…we have abundant sunshine but we choose to ignore it.

    • It is uneconomical. Wonder why they only use it for lighting and fridges? You cant even cook unless your stove panels filled up Gabon Disaster Stadium

    • It is uneconomical. Wonder why they only use it for lighting and fridges? You cant even cook unless your stove panels filled up Gabon Disaster Stadium. You saw a solar powered aircraft the size of a jumbo jet but with only a cockpit for 2 and no passenger chairs, to fly at 75km/h!

    • We have abundant water capable of harnessing 6000 MW in Zambia alone. The Inga site in the Congo is capable of generating 40000 MW. I don’t know what is keeping ESKOM from developing it although Zuma mentioned it recently in parliament as a solution to the energy crisis in SA. In any case substations are required to distribute power regardless of how power is generated i.e. thermal, hydro, nuclear, solar.

  2. Solar is a useless source of electricity.it is very inefficient and requires a huge amount of money to set up.thermal n hydro r the way to go.we can do wind too, seen it work good on farms

    • The wind speeds in Zambia are too low to generate electricity apart from pumping of water. Wind speeds are generally high along the coast.
