Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says the Zambian economy is weakening because President Edgar Lungu has no vision for the country.

Mr Hichilema said the domestic economy is going through serious stress due to poor leadership exhibited by President Lungu.

The UPND leader who looked controlled and composed during the short interview said President Lungu publicly admitted that he lacked any vision for Zambia during the presidential campaigns.

‘To be fair to him he publicly admitted that he had no vision for the nation and that is recorded in his campaign messages,’ Mr Hichilema said.

He added, ‘Since he took over office, we can look at two parameters, Debt is increasing both domestic and international debt to levels that are unsustainable, having come out of a debt trap not too long ago and we are getting back there.’

Mr Hichilema said the Kwacha has also collapsed which has increased the cost of living especially for the poor.

‘Secondly, the domestic currency has collapsed, the Kwacha has depreciated by 20 percent in few a months and that has increased the cost of living for the majority of our people, food included in there,’ he said.

Asked to comment on President Lungu’s recent trip to China, President Hichilema said China is a key economic powerhouse hence the need to maintain cordial relations with it.

Mr Hichilema said what was needed is to engage China on mutually beneficial terms to ensure that agreements are structured in a way that benefits both parties.

The UPND leader also emphatically stated that he will continue seeking public office in order to serve the people of Zambia.

He said he will not give up until his party decides to field a better candidate to contest the presidency on the party ticket.

  1. This is very shallow reasoning being exhibited by the leader of Zambia’s biggest opposition party. President Lungu is leader of a political party that has a manifesto. The PF were voted into office based on that. It therefore follows that President Lungu should be following his party’s manifesto. HH should therefore be attacking or exposing flaws in the PF’s manifesto and not talking about Lungu having no vision.

Our politics should be about party policies and not individuals.

    • PF Dunderheads, HH was very articulate on BBC. When asked about what he thought of Egars’ leadership, HH said. “to be fair Edgar is on record during the campaigns to have said he has no vision”. Depreciationr of the kwacha was steeper than any other currency, rating agencies have downgraded our economic forecast. Fact is, when an opposition leader is featured on BBC, people have sen his potential. ZNBC should be ashed that the continue to deny HH a platform to address Zambians despite him being the leader of the opposition in Zambia

    • Is HH accusing Lungu of something he didn’t utter? Is he lying about the state of the Zambian economy? If I were him I would have given up on that god forsaken country and it’s people who care more on who should lead the country based on tribe instead of the candidates campaign message and proven ability of economic management.

    • Someoone who writes “people have sen his potential. ZNBC should be ashed that the continue……” calling others ‘dunderheads’ is laughable!!!

    • Using the same manifesto, haven’t you seen any difference in governance style between late Sata and Lungu? Wise-up my friend.

    • It’s a continuation of the CNP legacy by the new president. It’s the only thing he signed-off on during the campaigns.

    • 1.5 Game: Sata borrowed heavily, hence new projects all over Zambia. EL will have to borrow also if you want him to match Sata

    • HH called a spade a spade. But PF minions will vilify him for telling the truth which even the international lenders like IMF have in their records. Why did Fitch down grade Zambia ‘s economic out look if it was performing very well under Lungu’s PF?

Its utter stupidity to expect a scholar like HH to deny the obvious about Zambia ‘s economic difficulties and bury his head in the sand as though the international community can not see that.

Is it not true that, Lungu said he was following Sata ‘s vision and has no vision of his own? Is it not true that, the Kwacha has depreciated by over 20% and hence affecting the cost of living because Zambia is an import dependant economy? Is it not true that PF government is broke and failing to pay its employees on time?

      PF don’t like the…

    • who will decided who the better candidate is HH? I have said before and I will say it again HH is not one that can win us an election he knows it the party structures know it but no one can tell him that. Yes he has wealth in cattle and two earned degrees but his inter-relation with the people is zero….I know I will get insulted on the net but please people let us not have another Chiluba,Sata, Lungu or even LPM simply because we want change let us build our own leaders based on principles and not on where the wind blows…..

    • Zambian people should accept that PF has failed. What HH is said is true and backed by facts and statistical data. Zambia is sitting on time bomb.PF have no capacity to control these economic problems we are now facing and yet to face. Very soon the Zambian economy will be on its knees and most Zambians will start apologizing to HH for not having given him a chance. Who can denial these facts.
1.The PF Government has imposed a wage freeze because of lack of funds.
2.The PF government has imposed employment freeze due to poor economy(no money).
3.Salaries are delayed in almost all ministries.
4.Delayed payment of domestic debt to suppliers and famers.(no money)
5.Huge amount of money borrowed, without payment plan.
Can someone dispute what I have written if its false.

    • President Lungu’s HIV and Cancer prescription records surface.,…

I am shocked reading this at Zambia watchdog-

The president is +ve and have those ailments?

      Thanks
      Bb2014

    • Very true. If only he can talk about policies not a person. He should be talking about solutions of how the Kwacha can appreciate or how lives of poor people can change not a person.

    • A president without a clear vision is a danger to society. Unfortunately most Zambians can’t see that and are shamelessly blind.

    • I hate to put forward this comparison but how long did it take for the USA to come out of it’s economic slump after the big crush when Obama was elected? As a matter of fact, the USA is still feeling that slump to this day! Lungu might not have a vision but he has only been in power for less than 6 months.
HH like somebody said, is just a politician talking politics. I highly doubt that if he was voted into power Zambia’s economy would have improved. Zambia is a failed state. It will take colonialism again to pull that country from the doldrums. Zambia was way better in Welensky days than it is now ( so says my granny). So dream on people. It will only get worse regardless of who is president.

    • Only an enemy of a country will go out and talk bad about his own country and create a scare. What a moron! He deserves to be castigated for that. Has anyone ever seen a politician who wants to lead a country talking bad about his own country? On Kwacha- it is a worldwide phenomenon, Australian dollar to Rands all have depreciated against US dollar. On unfinished projects, it is previous regime with selfish politicians of the likes of GBM, Kabimba and many benefactors of HH’s financiers who took advantage of Mr. Sata’s sickness and played their agenda of overcommitment and making huge kill. President Lungu is trying hard to bring investors with money to balance the budget and complete projects than letting huge money already put into those projects go down the drain.

    • When EL was asked about his vision during the campaigns, his response was that he shared in the vision of the party and that he could not take pride in talking about an individual vision. EL is vewiser than ka HH Sunny Chintombwa would want to make people believe.

    • I think zambia has too much bitter !diots, that actually make you the biggest of all.
which manifesto is now lungu using which has depreciated the kwacha? was it planned you say so that well and good these are better reasons to call them chibwe with poor plan.

    • Debo, what do you call a lie in your life? Look politics are side the economy is going through a rough patch hoping this does not become a permanent feature. The kwacha is not performing at all, the inflation rate is being kept artificially low through the OMO mechanism by BoZ. Due to the OMO, mechanism of reducing cash in circulation, small scale business are having it rough. The only happy person is you who is gaining a salary from govt through a party delivered job.

    • The thumbs up and down are too close, going by this then pf thumbs up bloggers have won, I predict a similar stat in 2016 elections. Just thinking outside the box!

  2. Well Mr Under 5, the Euro has depreciated , the rand has depreciated and so has many other currencies, does this mean that Europe and all these other economies are in a mess?

Anyway the Zambia economy could be in a mess, but not the reasons advanced and HH would be wise and smart to put forward genuine reasons than being emotional about this. If I were him I would say something like

There are a lot of world forces affecting several economies ..and then reason around that in terms of people capable of navigating Zambia out of this bad patch.

Just blaming Lungu’s so called lack of vision is being shallow frankly, we all know what he meant he he said that. He is following PF’s original vision, stop that broken reacord son please

    • So what vission do you have apart from asss leaking MMD and Ruphia? sober up and show maturity. we know that politics is your source of income. you have not achieved anything in life apart from bootlikcking. so shutup

    • Man 1: I am going out to fetch some food to feed my children.
Man 2: I will not do that. Look, those children over there are starving, that child bending over there is starving too…There a lot of forces affecting the availability of food in our homes. Going out to find solution is unreasonable.

Which man is wise. One who says a lot or one who say little?

    • The Kwacha has lost ground even against the Tanzanian Shilling. While it is true that the Dollar is doing well against all other currencies, it is also true that the KWACHA is among the worst performers. Zambia is in a class of students that failed an exam and almost all students go between 49% – 45%, while Zambia got 16%. . . and you want to say everyone failed. . . . . . . .Zambian iiidddiot

    • People say HH is a graduate who understands economics very and he could lead between the lines. How has he failed to look at things in a broader perspective. He should have understood why other currencies are depreciating and compared the depreciation to the kwacha

    • Hear! Hear!!!! I would never vote for anyone who does not put the Republic before their own personal interests. Quiet frankly, the British Public must be laughing behind HH’s back – what a blatant inferiority complex from an individual suffering from a virus called ‘self importance’.

Please HH, stop shoving yourself down our throats, when we are ready to have you as President, we will inform you through the ballot, right now, take a seat before you ruin all your chances and while you are at it, buy some maturity.

    • @Former UPND Supporter

You would not say that if only knew what political mad slinging is taking place here in the UK during this campaign period.

People in the UK don’t praise their leaders for nothing. They are frank with their politicians, and call them all sorts of names by reflecting the facts on the ground. Thats UK politics.

To be Frank, most people in the UK are seing a lot of sense in what HH is saying. For once Zambia has an opposition leader who understands the economic difficulties the country is going through and why this is happening. The English believe in first understanding the cause of problem and openly talk about it to explore the solutions to solve it.

Admitting the existence of the problem is the first and most important step to solving the problem…

    • Hi I always held you in High esteem but have now realised you’re a stupi.d man. Surely if Economies in Southern Africa are doing badly then we are okay to be doing badly too.
Ohh the Euro is bad so we its acceptable for us to be bad. You and men like Alexander Chikwanda mentalities have made over 15million suffer to fill you small round bellies because of selfishness.
Do you mean there no economies bucking this trend? That’s is where greatness is formed. Please also bed as you’re used to for Lungu to do better that’s all people need for now. He’s at the Helm so needs to be encouraged to do better not praised by foo.ls like you even when things are bad.
EL please put your ear to the ground and do your best in your time for Mother Zambia. With thanks
      CAT

    • President Lungu went China in order to boost investment in our country. Myself I will wait to see the result and I don’t expect them to happen overnight.HH,you want to come and reap where you didn’t sow? Moreover I can’t give one person one year to rule then the other one five. Suppose he fails terribly in the first year, his he going to step down ?Sorry HH,just wait for 2021.

    • Can you state the depriciation percentage of the above mentioned currencies in the last three months? For Zambian Kwacha,it is about 20%.

    • @MMD Chief Bootlicker

Are you the only person in this world who doesn’t know that Euro Zone is in a mess?. The depreciation of the euro is got nothing to do with the strength of euro zone economy, for your info the ECB introduced stimulus package to combat deflation hence the depreciation of the euro. Your point is a point scoring political lie

    • Only an enemy of a country will go out and talk bad about his own country and create a scare. What a moron! He deserves to be castigated for that. President Lungu is trying hard to bring investors with money to balance the budget and complete projects than letting huge money already put into those projects go down the drain.

    • Dear MMD Chief Bootlicker, it is sad that you are advancing the issue of Euro depreciating. How much has the Euro depreciated? Certainly not by 20%, the actual figure in not even above 2%. Please show good understanding of economic policies and fundamentals before commenting. Yes, Zambia is not immune to Global economic happenings, but what explains the carrying out of projects on borrowed money beyond a countries income capacity. In this case Zambia has to borrow now to ensure she pays are obligations towards servicing her loans. You still call that a global issue? The fact that a mining tax is about to be reversed even when the budgets estimates were based on this tax formula, you still call that an external force? Please give us a break

  3. If those of us that are fools have out numbered the wise, the status core will continue……….Zambians do not know what they really want!Ours shall be the kingdom of heaven…..Twalibelela ukuchula and we shall continue with this trend.

  4. yap yap yap yap thats all this guy knows…continue trying to be president of zambia kaili in UPND ni wamuyayaya smh

    • @ Rizzo read this…

He said he will not give up until his party decides to field a better candidate to contest the presidency on the party ticket.

Can you decipher the meaning? He’s is NOT a better Presidential candidate for his party. Period!

    • True but has anybody EVER stood up to challenge him since he became their ‘leader’? NO! All scared coz he bank rolls the party so he is UPND…I dont see this situation changing anytime soon!

  5. Akainde needs a physiotherapist urgently. He is talking about what the government is busy doing. Has he now become govt economic reporter. Can someone tame this akainde before his last respect is lost. People support akainde because of his wealth. Try to detach wealth from hh and see the kind of person he is. Wealth creation has nothing to do with education otherwise gbm would’ve been a poor man.

    • @Sponge Bob munasheko ukutamba Cartoon ya baiche.Open your eyes Zambia is headed for serious economic problems.PF criminals are ripping Zambia apart you are busy shouting pabwato pabwato mean while you children are dying of hunger in the name of uwesu aleteka, stupity Zambians.

    • @Sponge
You are the same people writing nonsense yet the country is sinking big time.Failed country, failed economy both fiscal and monetary and you still support the current government.Once someone said majority of Zambians reason like a sixth grade pupil…now i do believe this…As long their brother is in power, all is well…Zambians are cursed with poverty cause majority cant reason. Here is a country in Shambles since its independence…but they will still support to what is amiss…wake up Zambians…the problem you don`t travel and you are used to suffering….

  6. Well articulated interview from HH! we are proud to have a Zambian of your calibre. Your response to the questions was well presented.

  7. The integrity of any leader or organization is measured by the policies and plans consistence but with PF and its leader they truly lack vision and they are leading by common sense.

Where on earth can you find a party of government going against its own decisions?
How many SIs have been made and reversed by PF government?
The government, mines unions and its PF and MMD MPs supported the mineral royalties tax resume and received thunderous support as who argued we were called names and today the same vision less people want to reverse what they supported in parliament, they you call this planning?
The Chibwe no plan continues in Zambia and the currency of other countries has not depreciated by 23% in just three months.
The so called big tribes have proved to be unwise and failures to…

  8. I have liked this sentence “The UPND leader who looked controlled and composed”. HH is busy selling himself and his party and attracting well wishers and come 2016 when he starts flying around people will start saying he has mortgaged the country

  9. The audience in London also wondered as to why the people of Zambia had to vote for Lungu when he (Lungu) campaigned only for 23 days, and yet he (hh) campaigned seriously for more than 100 days. The London audience still wonder and questioned the wisdom of the Zambian voters to choose a visionless campaigner.
The answer they got from some of us who interact with the world news was and still is that:In Zambia the candidates sell their party manifestos…Whereby the voters read the party manifestos, analyse them, choose the best party manifesto, and vote for that developmental patern of that manifesto. The problem of upnd was that they promised everything PF had in its manifesto, & Zambians thought it wise to continue with PF which was already on course. Party manifesto is the vision.

    • @nix com another educated baboon in UK trying to defend PF.3/4 Zambians do not read manifestos if they did the UPND manifesto is much superior to PF. What drives Zambians to vote the way they vote is Tribalism. Elections in Zambia have lost meaning its just a tribal contest of how many Baboons will vote for there fellow Baboon or many cows will vote for their fellow Cows. HH is the best candidate every one knows just because he is Tonga then every one should be subject to poor leadership awe twakana.2016 will be a decider.

  10. Whatever HH said is very true. Didn’t Edgar repeatedly say he had no vision? what does the bible say about visionless leaders. Where there is no vision people perish (Prov 29:18). Are we not perishing due to high cost of living as a result of having Chagwa who has no vision at the helm.

    • Just like HH is on record that ‘Only a Tonga can lead UPND” isn’t he on record? Nkombo “I will resign as MP if HH loses in 2015!’ he is on record did he resign? Nope! On record on Record! Ok more records ” HH told Nawakwi step aside because you don’t have helicopters to campaign like I do”

  11. Whatever HH said is very true. Didn’t Edgar repeatedly say he had no vision? what does the bible say about vision less leaders. Where there is no vision people perish (Prov 29:18). Are we not perishing due to high cost of living as a result of having Chagwa who has no vision at the helm.

  12. We will see if tribal HH’s noise in London will win votes in PF strongholds!!!he is wasting his time in UK instead of campaigning for his tribal UPND locally!!HH is intead a useless leader!!Zambia’s economy cannot boom bcoz of one person ECL,never!!Govnt is a team of wise men.only UPND can be operated by an individual HH.so this satan1st cant fool us!!let him cheat his bantustan people!!IFINTU NI LUNGU AND IN 2016 PF WILL KOLOPA YOU ALL IN OPPOSITION!!

    • Look closely at Edgar Lungu’s cabinet and you will realise that it is full of clowns. There is no way those clowns can take Zambia out of its current doldrums. Recently a colleague visited Zambia and Namibia. He had lots of reservations about Zambia but lots of praises for Namibia. Apparently there is a lot of serious development taking place in Namibia. But they do not brag about it. Problem with Zambia is that those in government are loud-mouths for nothing. Anway that is the duty of clowns; to amuse the people.

  13. The MMD Chief Bootlicker has not become the PF chief bootlicker. Politics of the belly in foreign service. truth is that Lungu has no vision. see how he is running Zambia. the economy has collapsed. look at his disregard of the ACC inquiry in he tendering of phase 2 of the telecommunication towers.

  14. I don’t know why UPND have mantained a failure as a president for such a long time. The man,HH,cannot win any election in Zambia.UPND need to change the coach for them to see any meaningful change in their party.Otherwise, clinging to a political failure will not them make win any election.

What better thing is he bringing to political arena? The man is not saleable. He thinks coloniasts will come and vote for him.No matter the platform he is given,Zambians have continued rejecting him.In a nutshell,it is a sheer waste of time for him to continue being in politics.

    • @MBULUSO Stop being dull. HH is never a failure, if he is then Sata was a failure too. To be in the Opposition is not easy ,take for example Sata was trying for 10 yrs until he made it, Buhari has been trying for 20yrs and he made it, Wade in Senegal was trying for 30yrs and he made it. What motivated all these Guys to continue was will power and the people that kept on joining them. HH in 2006 polled 268,000 votes,2008 he had 297,000votes in 2011 he polled 568,000 votes and 2015 he polled 787,000votes less then 2% to PF(Lungu)which is also questionable. So HH so far knows he stands a huge chance to remove PF once and for all. No amount of discouragement will push as backward. Forward we shall move.

  15. I feel sorry for the under 5. BBC should have asked him if he obtained his riches from milking cows

    • I think a wise person will become rich even through milking his cows and there is nothing wrong with that.

Many of us in some of these tribes just have a hatred for HH. It is really not about his plan for the country but simply because of his tribe that some are repulsive of him.

If we were realistic and had the country at hearet we would have given him chance.

      Shame indeed………

  16. HH has become a scarecrow. A toothless mongrel whose work is to bark without biting. A perennial loser seeking favours abroad as if they are judges. He is doomed to fail like his Zimbabwean, Ugandan and Kenyan counterparts, Morgan Tsvangirai, Kizzie Bisiegye and Raila Odinga respectively. He has gone to heal his mental wounds abroad maligning the govt. He will never rule Zambia despite his financial status whose origin remains unclear.

    • The audience in London also wondered as to why the people of Zambia had to vote for Lungu when he (Lungu) campaigned only for 23 days, and yet he (hh) campaigned seriously for more than 100 days. 17. Morgan Tsvangirai of Zambia….thinking that running to trash his country to the west will help him with the keys to state house.

  18. …our democracy is still in its infancy…look at those already established like the USA or UK…..check out what Ed Miliband says about Cameron on UK economy…..politically, there is nothing wrong with such (HH) utterances……

    • Zambia’s democracy will remain stunted in infancy because the majority of the political players are just kaponyas. New countries on the block like South Africa are already far ahead whereas Zambia is still steeped in tribal politics and hero-worshipping a president. Utter rubbish!

  19. Whilst HH is busy yapping and crying, EL is rectifying the mistakes MCS made. The “vision less” EL knows the mistakes his party did in the last three years.

EL is busy working and focused on the needs of Zambian people, HH is busy selling himself to an audience that will never vote in Zambia. HH is now the actual vision less person.

HH is busy expressing his emotionally charged bitterness whilst EL is acting the bigger person by not responding to trivialities.

To be fair enough to UPND, HH is their best candidate they have and they don’t have an alternative candidate as such they will always be party to failure in achieving the ultimate goal because selling HH to Zambian electorate is like flogging a dead horse.

Zambians have seen beyond his ambitions of becoming a…

    • @Dyanko
Well said brother. President Lungu is a humble person, a person of a few words but when he speaks he speaks wisely and openly, not with tongue in cheek or bitterness written all over his face like some of the perpetually bitter politicians. President Lungu is undoing the mistakes created by a few selfish politicians and civil servants during Sata’s sickness and loss of control and zeal to rule. More HH talks, more he tightens the rope around his neck.

  20. Those of you that are saying Lungu is following party manifesto, haven’t you seen the so many decisions that he has made which are against the same party manifesto; his marriege with RB. The endorsement of chitimukulu and many more?

  21. HH has not lied, infact he commends Lungu for traveling to China, ” China is a key economic powerhouse hence the need to maintain cordial relations with it.”
It is true the economy is more weaker than before
It is true kwacha has lost value
It is true we haven’t heard any tangible economic pronouncements
It is true Chikwanda and Lungu are not on the same page, hence different pronouncements.

  22. HH have your hair done. Keeping such hair at your age simply means failure in appreciating that your are no longer in the Michael Jackson, Jimmy Kelly era. Many of your age kept such bad looking hair in the envy of these Negroes in USA. Maybe this is why being called under 5 is befitting.
Next. you are proving to a very ignorant man about what a vision is all about. EL simply meant the driver of development agenda is the PF manifesto, vision of a political party. For you to raise issue about this simple matter is really baffling. You should emphasize UPND vision not your ego if understand the mechanics of leadership. Its is team work not HH that will make UPND live beyond 2016. EL is winning 2016 because he has demonstrated team building and selfless attributes. HH will retire next year.

    • Are you indirectly telling Lungu the same about his hair? If Sata used to follow the PF manifesto then Lungu should not. The tribalism that we saw under Sata was disgusting. So was the favouring of Muchinga and the northern regions in development projects. No wonder the Barotse want to secede.

    • @ DjR

For a change I fully agree with you.

However, hear stile apart, what is your opinion on a 59 year old who dress as a pimp which has failed in his business?

  23. Lubinda say Lungu has made history by being the only Zambian other than KK to dine with the Chinese president. He has done this, he goes on to say, after being president for only 3 months. How shallow can somebody be? I thought Lubinda was a normal human being but alas! It’s no wonder we are in a deep economic crisis.

  24. Contd
It is this illness in HH of self and ego that makes UPND not attractive. HH has failed to demonstrate attributes of a good leader. How can you surely be made to believe MUVi TV opinion polls of 84% win if you really are able have the vision you claim. How can a vision less man who campaigned only 34 days beat a visioned man who has been campaigning since 2006 (more than 5000 days). HH respond.
This bitterness will not buy you votes. This lie that when you become president then all problems in Zambia are solved is what will make you lose again in 2016. We know that your personal goal is to produce a Tonga president. It has nothing to do with providing alternative leadership to the country but produce a Tonga president. This is what will never happen.

  25. HH is a blind Jerabo. No wonder he has not up to now denounce Munkombwe’s Tongas must rule slogan. I hope by 2016 there will be 16million Tongas to vote for him

  26. I am trying to wonder, when ever Edgar Lungu travels to these foreign countries, he is only received by ministers and the zambian ambassadors to those countries, recently he was in South Africa, not even a guard of honour for him but Mugabe has been received with all the pomp by both the president, his vice and many ministers, this shows how Mugabe is held in high esteem and Lungu was treated just like an ordinary minister. It was the same in China and Namibia. Surely this man has got no dignity that is why he is not respected anywhere. It is therefore right to say that the man is useless both in and outside Zambia.

  27. FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has been re-elected as CAF executive member for the Southern Zone at the 37th CAF general assembly which opened in Egypt yesterday.

Bwalya went through unopposed and will represent Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe for the next four years.

All the candidates from the six zones retained their positions after going through unopposed.
In the Northern Zone representing Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, Tarek

Bouchamaoui of Tunisia retained the position while the Western A Zone (Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Sierra Leone) went back to Almamy Kabele Camara of Guinea. The Western B…

  28. Questions for HH and the UPND- What is your economic policy? What aternatives are you offering to strengthen the Kwacha? How do you plan to fund the ‘free education’ maxim you ride on? What is your stance on economic inequality in Zambia? How do you plan to pay off debts incurred by the PF government and since there are only two ways to raise funds in government, are you going to borrow or raise taxes? How do you plan to satisfy your coalition partners who expect among many other things, jobs?
Zambia will only get true development when a new generation of leaders crops up, perhaps in the next 15 – 20 years.

    • Chintombwa is long on talk and short on specifics, or what actually needs to be done to turn things around. People need to carefully analyse what Chintombwa says to realize the character is empty.

  29. @voice of reason, you only get a guard of honour when you are on a state visit and not a private one.
    Stop hurting in your heart

  30. whether you like it or not edigar is president of zambia, and your HH is still strangling to be president which God has said no, and it will still be a no in 2016 come what may be

  31. come to copperbelt and see what we are planning 2016 , door to dooor campaigning for edigar,it will be 100 % voting just copperbelt we will win the elections.we boost of having 50% of total voters in zambia

  32. Fellow Zambians i greet you….Honestly any sensible zambian will agree with what HH has hinted on, one needs to be honest with him/her self. Honestly there is nothing or little if any that Edgar and his ministers has done to be proud of.Take for example Kwacha its fast running backwards whilst other currencies are catching up with the pound. What HH missed in his interview is to include the Ministers,or PF MPs these have also lamentably failed one needs to go to Ndola and see how bad the roads are eg. Mushili, kabushi and pamodzi then you agree with what the In coming President is talking about.

    • I hate to admit it but I agree with your reasoning. Edgar Lungu has not implemented policies that positively affect the life of Zambians! But it is to early to call. We can call three months in office as a failure.

  33. But HH is under5 for sure. Why talk about Lungu in the foregin country? Be wise HH otherwise you will ever remain in opposition. Shame on you.

  34. @Sido Mark, I still stress my point that HH is not a saleable material. If he were a debt,he would have been written off as a bad debt. He is kept in UPND,not for any purpose but as a sole financier of the party. The rest have no money to sustain the party.

He is just a time waster.

  35. U5 followers what is your problem?Lungu this,Lungu that….jst convince pipo to vote for you,why crying all the time,ECL convinced Zambians in less than 30days but in your case you started a long time ago (2001)up to now you’ve failled to convince the majority but crying,crying,crying…..ah we are tired, these babies awe mwe…….

  36. With all due respect to HH, there is nothing with a ‘wow factor’ which he said in London unless majority of you do not understand basic economics. I respect HH, he is a good businessman and can make a good president (business wise). But to argue that he his interview with the BBC was earth shaking is a lie. I have listened to him several times, he just says things anyone of us can say. The big question is: What practical solutions is he offering?

    • Thanks for your very intelligent observation about HH. The guy fails to tell us how he would do things differently. He is just full of hot air for nothing!

    • @ chamz & zebigge

Are you two “very intelligent observers” (LOL) agree on HH statement which is a matter of this blog, or your “very intelligent observations” are limited to his (HH) lack of stated alternatives and thus accept current decline of living standard in Zambia as a sign of PF extraordinary development of Zambian economy?

  37. @ Neutral: Inferiority complex? I can’t disregard my country even if I hailed from war-torn Syria. Iam not a Zambian as you claim and i wished i were, to fight ignorance from within. We have our own challenges like the Al shabaab menace. I am not personality-centered and a blind supporter of a certain leader not even the much sung Barrack Obama whose grandparents are less than a kilometre from my rural home in Nyanza province, Kenya. I fight ignorance and tribalism. My blogs are not one -sided and thats why i welcome criticism from both EL &HH supporters. I fight ignorance having undergone post-election violence and lost lives due to mere arrogance. Lets unite to root all evil in africa and to give credit where its due. @ Neutral,I am a proudly non-tribalist Kenyan, for your information

  38. Thank you HH, you have just put the final nail in the coffin as far as your presidential ambitions are concerned. I say thank you because as majority voters we will not have to put up with you anymore.

UPND, next candidate for 2016 please!

  39. What the people want is policy and not the blatant negativity that we are being fed by HH and UPND!

The arrogance of this man is surpassed only by the $tup!dity of UPND voters.

  40. Its TRUE HH cannot be president in zambia…its clear from the comments that most zambians are sick intellectually.

  41. 1.HH failed to acknowledge that Edgar was not President of Zambia when the seeds of the current economic malaise were sown. But to his credit, Edgar is taking practical steps to correct the situation.
    2. Despite accomplished economist and business manager (that is according to him, I do not know how true it is but I will not dwell on that), HH fails to acknowledge other external economic factors like the depressed price of copper on the world market as a factor in our current economic situation. Now every economist worth his salt knows that, and certainly the BBC does. So what does the BBC think of HH? Lowly I think, he would have received more respect from the BBC by not cheap politicking but by explaining what can be done.
    …contd…

  42. I have always wondered whether indeed this Under 5 is an economist. First of all, what is HH’s problem? I have never heard this Under Five publicly denounce his underperforming MPs in their constituencies, what does that tell you? All he hallucinates about is the top job, but unfortunately for him, leadership has eluded him and he can’t see this. If he can’t make his MPs perform and become an example of his leadership qualities, how on earth does he expect any sane person to trust him at national level?

My own assessment is that ECL is an intelligent and practical leader. Already, one can see that ECL is very keenly following up on his campaign promises and before the Under 5 realizes it, most items on PF checklist would have been ticked as accomplished!!

    Viva ECL 2016 AGAIN

  43. bwana HH you claim to be very intellengente in the way you come up with issues but my question to you is, what measures have you put accross to help zambia as an opposition party?nothing at all empty bucket i can see ,why go abroad and starting deamining zambia and the people of zambia ,you dont have plantiform in zambia were you can talk about the issues you were raising in london?shame no wonder you cant be president of zambia

  44. give solutions to our ruling party not condeming them this is our zambia whether you condemn or not you still be a zambian, the kwacha depreciate is not some thing to factor in zambia but by the international market ,the shelling is also gone down trading at 1880 to a dollar, does it mean Kikwete is not doing well ?only dull chaps cant understand

  45. if you have a dispute with your wife in the bedroom ,do have to go outside and stand on an anti hill and start screeming to the entire neighbour hood that your wife is not sleeping in your bed ?all what you do is site with your wife and discuss without any one knowing there is a problem, but what HH is doing is something to be desired, zambian come on is this the man you can entrust with the presidency?let him advise BOZ on how to appreciate the kwacha, proper policies to help the economy of zambia and not standing at an anti hill and start insulting zambians.

  46. Zambia’s problems are there for all to see, HH does not even need to say aba bamwisho is blind. Ba Mwisho ba Edgar bantu babula menso mwisho.

  47. Ba HaHa just recount how many times you have said Edgar is visionless and Zambia needs you an economic manager blabla…. At the end of the day Zambia voted for a president who has no INDIVIDUAL VISION BUT BELIEVES IN A COLLECTIVE VISION. Leadership according to the Zambian voter is way above a vision, economic management ( whatever that means). This same guy you are calling visionless will again in 2016 thrash your balls and retain the presidency. Zambia will never vote for an arrogant president like haha or summer kabimba. Look at ECL, very simple, very humble and dosen’t know every thing like hh and summer. This is the president we are going to vote for in 2016.

  48. Only a satanist will do such a thing to his country. Who cares about BBC? Zambians will still vote for ECL come 2016.
HIV Positive, cancer patient etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc……………………….we still want him to rule Zed.

    Stupid *****

  49. “Man Kenya”, what more can I say but to thank you for your intelligent contributions!! Great reasoning.

  50. I have never heard any of the visiting opposition members of democracies such as the US or Britain dissing their ruling party when they visit abroad. They protray a picture of patriotism but when they return home thats when they criticise their governments. Immaturity is rife here

  51. Well, we let this political failure HH to continue being a president of the press. EL will continue to be the President of the country, Zambia.

This cry baby leader never learns at all. He did the same with MUVI TV and The Post.

We do not care if talks to BBC CNN or the Moon News. He is still a pathetic loser. He will continue to lose because we can see the type of a useless politician he is.

What a shame. HH has run out of ideas to push his party forward and thinks by destroying the country’s international image will win him votes at home. It is another huge political error by this under 5 politician. Sata was right. HH is so childish. A cattle rustler.

Too much mabisi brings out too much mabisi in thinking. Thank you for giving PF more ideas on how to hammer you in 2016.

  52. @MMD Chief Bootlicker
In Europe, Greece is in mess big time, because of the corruption and failure by the rich to pay taxes. However, Germany is benefiting from a weak Euro because it is a productive nation. That said, there is nothing wrong with a depreciating currency. It has benefits or costs depending on the economic policy and the development model designed to manage the downside and take advantage of the upside. You are saying Zambia could be in a mess. Zambia is in a mess, the debt and the budget deficit are increasing, creating downward pressure for the Kwacha, which is what HH is saying.Lungu is to blame and you must be ashamed to try and defend such incompetence.Lung and you must know that running a country or any other organisation, the understanding of risk is fundamental.

  53. Muzungu anikonde attitude from HH. I have never seen an American or European opposition leader speaking nonsense about their country in Africa or Asia. This inferiority complex from Africans such as HH is what makes our politics stink.

    • Inferiority complex is when private second class pretend to be officer and gentleman.
There is huge difference between critical approach to government policy and be critical of its own Country.

  54. There are two types of Zambians doing a dis-service to the country. Those benefitting from the economic ‘rape’ and plunder of the resources and those continuing to be gullible enough to be swayed time and again to vote for a psychopath party like the PF. The country is slowly drifting to bankruptcy and people continue to be in denial. Most economic disasters emanate from mismanagement and greed, rather than a lack of resources. Venezuela, for example, is officially supposed to be one of the richest countries (with one of the world’s biggest oil reserves and other resources) but its people are wallowing in unprecedented abject poverty – a similar paradox runs in a lot of African countries. Honest, civilised, accountable and competent leadership IS crucial. PF is nowhere near that.

  55. HH needs to pick up a leaf from the American politicians. When George Bush was plotting an excuse for a route to invade Iraq, Jimmy Carter opposed the idea within the bounds of the USA. However, when the USA finally started bombing positions in Iraq, Carter kept silent to preserve national security.

Apparently, HH has exposed his lack of political maturity by using foreign lands to criticise his own country. His shameful behaviour is synonymous to that of a known opposition leader in Zimbabwe. HH’s utterances are meant to entertain the British die hard racists who scorn at the African Govts that booted them out of African colonies. Musi Maimane is also trumpeting the same tune to preserve the supremacy and privileges of the whites in South Africa.

We wait for HH’s meeting Obama.

    • That is wishful thinking. Obama’s schedule is full and Guy Scott was the first Head of State of Zambia to meet a US President!

  56. Africa’s top 10 enocnomist and Zambia’s richest man though not recgonized by Forbes or any other reputable organization apart from UPND cadres.
No economic fundamentals in his hate speech except jaundiced statements
