President Edgar Lungu says he is disappointed that campaigns for the Masaiti parliamentary by election have become tribal.
President Lungu said it is disappointing that some people are de campaigning PF candidate Michael Katambo on grounds that he is not originally from Masaiti.
Speaking at Masaiti Boma during a public rally to drum up support for Katambo, Mr Lungu said tribal campaigns should not be entertained.
ZANIS reports that the Head of State said there is need to foster unity in the country by promoting the spirit of “One Zambia One Nation.”
President Lungu said the country should unite because no single tribe can elect a government into power because Zambia is bigger that any single tribe.
He said he knows the people behind the tribal campaigns but would not mention them because everyone knew who they were.
President Lungu has since asked the people of Masaiti to vote for Katamba because he is the right person who can work with government to develop Masaiti.
He pointed out that voting for the PF candidate will contribute to the development of the country because PF stands for development.
And during the rally former MMD Copperbelt Task Force chairman Joe Malanji defected to the PF.
Why is Upnd so tribal. This party should be scrapped from the political arena come 2016.

Life is indeed a moving target as time can fly fast. Michael Katambo has really grownup. He looks a big man. I recall the year i was a Sugo, he was my junior in form 3 at Chiwala boys in the 80s. The late Headmaster Chileshe Mupandamabula trusted Katambo so much as his Boarding captain. Ever serious and hardworking young man. Amazing is that from a gifted star in Maths, Pure Sciences and TD, he has ended up being a politician. We foresaw in the young man an engineer in this guy. Whatever happened, its water under the bridge.
But Mishikishi where Katambo comes from is in within Masaiti District. So are lambas allowing themselves to be divided by politicians? Where is Dickson Matutu who is never heard?
Tribalism is very much part of the upnd DNA makeup.

The challenge of this president is that he’s struggling within himself. It’s not in him – The call of duty. He’s merely on an assignment. Lungu did not define why he said what he said (at least reporter doesn’t say). It’s sad that some f00ls assume this has anything to do with UPND. Where is katambo from? All I can gather is he is not Masaiti. Why is it tribal to say we don’t want someone to be our MP because he is not from Masaiti?

Unless you are a baby who does not know that Bembas and Easterners have been voting just as you have mentioned since the time of Mazoka as UPND leader. Who prevented Mazoka from ascending to power? It is same Bembas who gave him literally nothing in terms of votes because they listened to what Chiluba told them. It is Lungu who is campaigning on tribal lines. As a President you can not just mention a blank statement about tribalism with substantiating his claims. He leaves people in suspension and you can see they start insulting each other on this website. It is better for the President to shut if he has nothing to tell people. He is fanning this hate language in the country and some people are dancing to it. I even see others writing that he is humble, oh my president, the man is cruel, he used pangas to ascend to power in PF. He blocked other candidates from entering the venue and then you call him humble. Tell him that people will not his tribal remarks.

Zambians, do you know that you are the most feared african nation in Kenya for having so many tribes and remaining so peaceful? Kenya has 43 tribes where the top 10 tribes don’t see eye to eye. Political tension began in 1964 in grabs for top seats after independence. Dictatorial presidency restored it but tension amplifies after every election and at times many people die. In 2007 , it reached climax involving international ceasefire. Zambians engage in oral tribalism but it should be checked as it builds up and overflows unnoticed. Leaders are just figures and should not be viewed from a political angle. A leader operating on tribal lines is not worthy leading. Maintain your peace and avoid external tribal manipulators.
