Forum for Democracy and Development President Edith Nawakwi has said that Zambia would be a different place in terms of development had late President Levy Mwanawasa completed his second term.

Speaking when she addressed headmen/women at Senior Chief Mukuni Ng’ombe’s Palace in Kapiri Mposhi on Thursday, Ms. Nawakwi said that would have developed had God just granted the late late President Mr. Mwanawasa just a few more years to complete his second term.

“This country would have been different had God granted our late President Mr. Mwanawasa just a few more years to complete his second term. Mr. Mwanawasa embarked on a lot of projects countrywide which some people want to take credit for while some of them have been abandoned,” said the opposition leader to the approval of the headmen/women.

Ms Nawakwi caused laughter on Thursday when she said Government Officials in the FDD Government will not be weeping openly at the sight of under development in some districts because each district will have its own budget.

Speaking when she addressed headmen/women at Senior Chief Mukuni Ng’ombe’s Palace in Kapiri Mposhi the Ms. Nawakwi said the FDD proposes a different way of governing the country which will empower districts with their own budgets hence empower district officials to make decisions on what to prioritize.

“Our Ministers won’t be crying after seeing the appalling conditions government workers are working under and under development of some districts because under the FDD Government districts will have their own budgets. People in the different districts will be able to sit down and decide what they want in their districts.

“It’s true that some districts are so backward that you can be moved but the reason these districts are so backward is because of the governance system which makes everyone depend on decisions coming from Lusaka,” she said.

The opposition leader also called on the traditional leaders to encourage their subjects to get national registration cards and ensure that they register as voters in the forth coming mobile voter registration process.

Ensure that you encourage you subjects that have come of age to get national registration cards and register as voters when those registering come to your areas because that the only you can help shape the feature of the country. It is only by voting that you can show you approval or disapproval of the way you are being governed.

Speaking earlier Senior Chief Mukuni Ng’ombe of the Lenje people of Chipepo in Central Province has expressed concern at what he termed ” the over commercialization of politics” in the country.

His Royal Highness Mukuni Ng’ombe observed that the country has remained stagnant in terms of development because politicians are not serving the interest of the people any more as politicians are spending so much money buying votes.

The traditional leader said people had become weary of politicians because of the many promises which politicians have been making and are abandoning once they are put into office.

“Politics have become so much commercialized these days that is why politicians are not serving the people who put them in office.

The people who are in politics now are just serving their interest and people are becoming tired of hearing from politicians because they think they are just being used by politicians,” said the traditional leader.

His Royal Highness also called on political party leaders to stop imposing candidates on the people as doing so is contributing to MPs abandoning their constituencies once they are elected.

“We have been telling you politicians to stop imposing people from Lusaka on us. We would like to have people who know how we live to be representing us because these people you are bringing for us are abandoning us once they are elected,” he said.

And Chief Liteta Says traditional leaders should take a leading role in educating their subjects in issues of electing leaders on merit as opposed to gender because they are people suffering most.

“We are the people who are seeing the our people are suffering therefore should be in the forefront educating our subjects on issues of choosing leaders wisely. We should be telling our people to choose people based on what they are capable doing for us as a community and not whether one is a man or a woman,” said the traditional leader.

He added ” it is important to have leaders chosen on merit and not gender, in fact what we need as country is to have more women in politics and leadership positions maybe that way the country will move forward.”

    • She meant Mwanawasa. Data was the the worst president we had and Lungu is on course to beat that record. Mwanawasa made very unpopular decisions but were in the interest of the country. This is something Lungu cannot do.

    • Sata is famous as a campaignin tool. Respects are paid for the sake of winnig over people. When I hear Sata’s name it reminds of who is going to pay the eurobond in a matter of years. Because it doesnt seem the man left a plan for that eventuality.

    • Much as Mwanawasa publicly wanted to show that he was fighting corruption, he actually embraced it by appointing the most corrupt element in the name of Rupiah Banda as his vice president

We heard so much about keeping and continuing Mwanawasa’s legacy and I surely believe Rupiah did just that. and we all know the results of continuing Mwanawasa’s legacy under Rupiah.

    • you people have applied for police permits??… some of you are public figure or/and your comments attract alot of attention!! people like @ Nostradamus, my bro @skeleton, @Mushota, @Nubian @jayjay,,,,,,etc,,,,,,,,,, and not forgetting ba kachema they attract attention when they go out to look after the animals in the fields

    • Ndobo Wahesu!

We are doing our best, accountability is our duty to protect the poor majority & vulnerable people.

      Good one brother man! Kozo.

    • SEMBE SEMBE SEMBE, SEMBE SIISEBENZA, HOW SURE ARE U? JUST WORK HARD, EVEN NOW IT CAN BE AS DIFFERENT AS WANTED. LOOK TO FUTURE NOT LIVING IN THE PAST WITH SEMBE

    • Total nonsense Edith!!! So, it is God’s fault that Zambia is not developed because He did not grant Mwanawasa time to complete his second term of office?

Wrong deductive reasoning … the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise deserve better from a smart young lady like yourself. Stay away from involving my God into politics, He is divine and eternal … thanks a trillion.

  1. Nawakwi as a husband snatcher has gotten confused since she suffered the same fate after a widowed neighbor around her farm started cohabiting with Hambulo every night and she has finally snatched him. HAMBULO has done his 3Rd defection leaving Nawakwi starved, confused and bitter.

  2. Yes Mama it would have been different.
It would also have been different if Chiluba was allowed 3rd Term.
It would equally have been different if KK won the 1991 elections and
It would be different if Sata completed his term.

    • Edith, Mwanawasa did very little in terms of development. Zambia would have better infrastructure if Michael had lived longer.

    • Ati Zambia would have better infrastructure under Sata. Sata has left you and your children a debt which you have to py back. These stadiums in Mongu he was building was from borrowed money. Now the same infrastructure projects have stalled because there is no money to pay contractors. They are now borrowing secretly but they can’t hide anything anymore because the same civil servants that prepare the paperwork for the loans go straight to ZWD and THE post and reveal the information

    • @DONT CARE

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH U. NOTHING STAYS THE SAME- IT IS EVEN DIFFERENT NOW THAT HE DIDNT FINISH AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF HE FINISHED HIS TERM. AND IT IS DIFFERENT NOW THAT NAWAKWI, HH LOST. IT WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF SHE OR HH WON, IT IS DIFFERENT NOW THAT EL WON, IT WOULD EQUALLY HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF HE LOST ETC ETC ETC

  3. Cannot argue against that observation. Mwanawasa held two key elements for development i.e Zero tolerance to corruption and decentralization of admin. Both are at bay with the Banda-Lungu models. Sata tried on the former but on corruption he got an F.

I wonder whether those elected to office ever think about the critical nature of basic structures and institutions in relation to development. I doubt it. How can any project (in muyombe) be implemented with efficiency, monitored and evaluated from a swinging computer chair in Lusaka? Or how do you part yourself on the back for inviting China to do infrasture building when your own masses are left watching from the terraces. What happens when they are done and gone? Of course Infrastructure run down! Poor capacity building is the name!

  4. madam nawakwi, late levy mwanawasa has gone already, it was God’s plan and nothing else will come back , plan and think for you and others who are still alive. stop talking about the dead.

    • Oh no, it was KK. Since he left, Zambia has had nothing new. E.g. Infrastructure, it is the same airport he left, the same Cairo road, etc.mthe only thing others have brought are shopping malls, which is not real investment. Manufacturing stopped after KK left and the mines were taken over by people who are even refusing to pay tax.

    • He sold KCM for a song, best my foot what did he do in his seven years that you still can point at apart from LEVY STADIUM , LEVY BRIDGE AND LEVY HOSPITAL?

  5. …..let us not dwell so much on wishful thinking….if….if…ifs do not amount to anything in reality….history has proven that most head of states start their terms with vigour and passion to develop the country but relax towards the end of their terms…..
…..some-one could have said the same on KK if he had left office in the 70s…..that had he continued Zambia could have been a paradise…..no doubt Levy won so many ‘hearts’…’souls’……compared to his ‘counterparts’ who have sat in that seat so far…..
….the cardinal point is what the chief said….that people have become ‘weary of politicians’….because of the way politics have been commercialised…..they put in 20% for the public and 80% personal….

    • Scrutinizerer while I agree with you there is Barrack Obama who is doing the opposite. His second term is seeing economic growth unemployment is dissappearing I think because he is now relaxed enough to sort out the problems

  6. Crying over spilt milk, talk of the current PF fools fooling Zambians that they are ruling when in fact are just destroying the country by openly stealing money to uplift KKI airport, Kambwili building houses with stolen money on government land and people say that is development. Shame on Nawakwi who embraced PF Sata on tribal lines as the worsed leader of Zambia.

  7. The person say if bla bla served 2 terms, Zambia would have been different is joke. She is busy wasting time talking about some one instead of telling us how different she is. What she would for Zambia. You can never progress with leaders like her and i think she’s another old tired politician who should be resting.

  8. What a big lie. Mwanawasa cannot beat the record of FTJ and RB. FTJ paid the debt that KK left and improved the economy. When Mwanawasa took over, Zambia’s economy was stable which was paved by FTJ. LPM was popularized by Mmembe who misled him on corruption fight just aimed at fixing FTJ. FTJ beat Arthur Wina and Mmembe lost. RB managed the economy extremely well and left $3.8 billion surplus. Mmembe demonized RB. RB beat Magande and Mmembe lost for second time. Sata with his twisted plans adopted Mmembe and Winter, he ended up poisoned. EL indirectly beat Winter and Mmembe lost for the third time. This is the delusions and hate you see in Mmembe. FTJ remains the best ever. Truth hurts. But it is truth.

    • WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT MWANAWASA IS THE BEST PRESIDENT ZAMBIA HAS HAD. HE LEFT THE COUNTRY BETTER THAN HE FOUND IT. AS NAWAKWI HAS RIGHTLY POINTED OUT MOST OF THE PROJECTS BEING IMPLEMENTED NOW WERE STARTED OR PLANNED DURING THE MWANAWASA’S ADMINISTRATION. HAD HE LIVED A LITTLE LONGER, ZAMBIA WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER NOW.

  9. Mazoka would have made a better president if he did no die.
HH will make good president if he does not die.

  10. CONTD
FTJ opened minds of Zambians. Today Zambians own various businesses and own houses which they using as collateral to secure loans. Zambians today do not wait on a list to be accommodated because so and so has retired. They are building own houses immediately get employed. Culture of dependence went. We do not have UBZ but there are many transport companies owned by Zambians. There are no shortages of salt, sugar and cooking oil today. If FTJ was allowed 3rd term, Zambia would be Paradise today. LPM shoved everything good for the country in the guise of fighting corruption. Corruption is nothing but a a form of fear magnet intimidating Zambians while Mmembe enjoys fruits of the game.

  11. Don’t forget that we were calling LPM a cabbage for almost 2years and we refered to him as ftj puppet. It was in his third year that we started accepting and believing in him but still that move by him did not convince the people and came 2006 elections saw sata almost winning the highly controversial elections. LPM policies started bearing fruits in his early second term. My point is Edgar is only less than 6 months in office and we want to quickly judge his 100days in office based on presidents who ‘ve saved more than 2years or terms in office. I personally think that the best time to judge Edgar is when he saved his own term which is after 2016.

  12. Dull statement by a dull & boring person. Losers always talk of “if”. Mwanawasa was president fo 7 yrs, what did he not do that he cld ve done in the remaining 3 yrs? Zambia just has leaders with NO PLAN. SATA was the worst. Only he knew he was dying so he embarked on projects to make sure he suffoned for his family. How can u explain him appointing a Board Chairman (without a Board) to dish out projects? Chiluba shared all parastatals (with HH) fo his own again. Banda was cluless. He had retired & was just brot in, when Mwanawasa died he didn’t know what to do. Kaunda used o Zed resources on those who r now exnofobic. HH is nothing but a copy-cat. He is copying from Chiluba’s speaches to Sata’s activities. EL has no plan, just sitting in that seat. Edith wishes on the dead. O cluless

  13. Yes madam Nawakwi, FDD would have been a great party had Gen Christon Tembo been alive and at the helm of it.

    • @ Donn, we can forgive you if you were born yesterday because you really dont know what your talking about.

    • I am VERY SURE she meant Mwanawasa. He is indeed the best president that Zambia has had so far. No one can beat Mwanawasa as at now. Even M’membe can attest to this.

The problem came when MMD rejected MAGANDE and went for Banda. Magande would have done far much better than RB who came for nothing but to steal from Zambians.

  14. POLICE COMMISSIONER-EASTERN SIBOTE CLAIMS PRESIDENT LUNGU HAS INSTRUCTED HIM ATTACK CHIEF MADZIMAWE’S FAMILY

I want to draw the attention of Z1. In Eastern Province a problem has arisen. There is a stand off between Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people of Chipata and Police commissioner Eugene Sibote. Sibote sent more than 30 riot police to chief Madzimawe’s palace on tuesday this week to get mukula logs. The chief has been confiscating mukula from illegal dealers and kept the logs in an open ground. The chief had also been so helpful in impounding vehicles with mukula and taking them to Chipata Police using his resources and the outcome of the cases have not been clear. But Sibote without finding out from the chief sent officers to get the logs stating that Z1 has authorized the…

  15. Shameless woman.you shouting on top of your voice that mwanawasa was a cabbage, meaning that his brain was not working properly.now he a hero.mwanawasa was taking over when taking over when much of zambia’s debt was cancelled and paid off.he therefore had enough money to spend on development.let’s not forget that there was much hype about the winter maize project in his administaration which was a total faillure and the fight against corruption which yielded nothing.his fight against corruption was a personal vendata against ftj where he shamelessly paraded ftj’s shoes as proof of corruption.

  16. I think ftj brought a lot of development because mwanawasa found a well established economy. These others are just building on the foundation ftj lied. Mumembe corruption issue against ftj was personal. Mwanawasa persuaded the corruption issue with all the instrument of power, but what came out?Only nchito became DPP and the whole corruption fight is just a dream

  17. @disnetwork and tom
You are among the few that know the truth about who the best president Zambia has had. It is insulting and misleading for people to think that country develops with a particular development. People do not look at the gap between KK and LPM. It was during this gap that Zambia was being reconstructed. LPM just found a rose home and started spending the wealth he did not create.

  18. Chances of an woman winning the presidency in Africa stand at 8%. Take your dreams and wishful thinking elsewhere. The VP stands a better chance than you currently if gender is anything to go by. You were rejected in broad daylight.

  19. These regional budgets…….will they base their forecasts on real money or….make believe national income.

We operate our economy on borrowed income,…….. we’ve yet to pay it back.

When Nawakwi takes power….all she’ll be doing is paying back…only lord knows with what as all the Mining companies will have fled after filling their bellies and the ‘pay later’ theory will be a failed strategy.

  20. Zambia would have been a different place had Sata finished two terms. Mwanawasa was the worst president ever, in my opinion.

    • TO YOU MWANWASA WAS WORST PRESIDENT BECAUSE HE DID NOT STEAL AND DID NOT ALLOW THIEVES TO FOOL AROUND WITH PEOPLE’S MONEY.

  21. Mwanawasa had our debt cancelled. He also taught people the rule of law. Enough said.

    Viva President Nawakwi.

  22. It is this same Mwanawasa who said Zambians have short memories and it is true because Zambians have already forgotten that it was Mwanawasa who sold the mines for $25 million dollars instead of the reserve price of $400 million. It was only yesterday when we saw a video where an Indian was bragging that he bought the mines cheaply. It was a hot topic when the video surfaced but now it is like this video never existed at all from the way Mwanawa is being extolled.

  23. The only thing Levy did was to empower lawyers,it was in Levy s term that lawyers started charging high fees, and now everyone wants to become a lawyer.
    J

  24. @Ulibe Nzelu you are so backward! Mwanawasa was not the one who negotiated for debt cancellation but this was an ongoing issue from IMF/World bank on highly indebted countries. Chiluba was only being tuned up to meet the benchmarks of repayments to qualify. This is the reason Ronald Penza got voted as the best Finance Minister at the time because he was trotting the IMF requirements. You are so dull UPND cadre!
