Cosafa race to face Zambia begins

Share

The battle to face defending Cosafa Castle Cup champions Zambia in the quarterfinals kickoff on Sunday at Sun City.

Four-time champions Zambia enjoy a bye from the preliminary group stage of the competition that kicks off on May 17 in the North West Province of South Africa and will run until May 30.

Battling for place to face Zambia on May 24 are Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles and fellow record Cosafa cup winners Zimbabwe.

The quartet will battle for that lone quarterfinal slot from Group B and Zambia should know their opponent by the final round of matches on May 21.

Namibia and Seychelles will kickoff the race at 15h00 (Match of SuperSport 9) while Zimbabwe and Mauritius will clash at 17h15 (Game on SuperSport 4).

Namibia’s campaign will be of added significance to Zambia because the two sides are set to meet in the 2016 CHAN qualifiers that kickoff on June 19.

Coincidentally, Seychelles have also been thrown into the CHAN qualifiers angle.

Winner in the CHAN qualifiers between Seychelles and Mozambique will face the victor of the Zambia-Namibia tie to decide who goes through to next years Rwanda finals and so the Cosafa presents a great opportunity for the four teams to size themselves on that front.
