Kapita’s defection a sign of HH’s failed leadership – Chanda

Share

PF Vice-Chairperson for Media and Publicity Sunday Chanda says United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice-President Richard Kapita resignation from the opposition party is an indictment of a failed leadership style of party President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Chanda says Kapita’s decision to join the PF party is a clear demonstration of President Edgar Lungu’s transformational leadership.

He is reported by the social media today to have said that the UPND Vice-President’s resignation alone was an indictment on what he termed was the failed leadership style of party President Hichilema.

Chanda said the opposition political party will attempt to underplay the crumbling of its rank and file by minimizing Kapita’s resignation.

“This resignation alone is an indictment on the self-centred, mediocre and failed leadership style of one UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema. We know that out of desperation, the UPND will try to underplay the crumbling it is witnessing before it own eyes by minimising the Kapita resignation, ” read the statement in part from Mr. Chanda.

Mr. Kapita, one of the key party leaders in the UPND today ditched his party by joining the Patriotic Front at a rally held in Mwinilunga District where Kapita hails from.

He served as MP from the area from 2001 through to 2006 and remained one of the few members to have remained in the party from the days of founding party leader Anderson Mazoka.

    • We understand the fact that Kapita has to eat, so he has to defect to PF and pour senseless accolades to his new paymaster Kaminamisa Lungu. He has now positioned himself well to receive government contracts. We hear he couldn’t even afford talk time

    • Sunday Chanda, the destitute PF Bootlicker at it again. The truth is the defection of Kapita shows poor judgement on his part and desperation for PF. After 17 years in the UPND, a man with morals would have just resigned from active politics, but Kapita is a hungry man. Numbers don’t lie. Momentum is with UPND, the 20th Jan election results, which were a statistical tie are evidence to that.

    • @Chils
Really, Kapita was a nobody? And you made him Vice President for how many donkey years? Then who is somebody in UPND, only HH? This level of denial will take you nowhere. You are now claiming that the guy has fathered 10 children with his maids out of wedlock as fathering 10 children just takes one week when you want to defect to PF. Bottom line is UPND is imploding. Cornelius Mweetwa is on record of praising Lungu’s leadership despite vehement disgust for Lungu by HH and D Patel. Am sure we will hear that Mweetwa is a nobody too.

UPND needs fresh elections and fresh leadership. Having big bank account and being Tonga cannot be the only qualification to be a UPND president or country for that matter.

    • @Chanda, you know very well that Ka pita defected to PF from economic reasons. If it were in the USA or Canada I would have agreed with your reasoning, but we are dealing with a Zambian situation and we know that it is hunger and not ideologies that drive peoples actions in Zambian politics

    • The Defection of one Richard Kapita pushes further more down of perking order for Sunday Chanda in terms of kick backs and waiting for a job

    • A nonentity when he was Veep! Then even HH is a nonentity. Learn to accept, the party is no longer the same. The man has his own followers who are likely to switch parties with him. If you do not learn, another ‘nonentity’ will soon leave, until only one group of people who you believe matter remain. UPND can alrealdy forget 2016.

    • KAPITA WAS WHAT? NONE ENTITY? UPND GUYS YOU ARE LIVING IN DENIAL. YOU MUST BE JOKERS YOU GUYS YOU PUT A NOTHING PERSON IN THAT POSITION. UPND, YOU ARE JOKERS. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD CALL IT, ‘TIME TO GET RID OF THE ROTTEN EGG, HH’. HH, LOOKS AT ALL UPND MEMBERS IN THE MANNER HE CONSIDERS HIS COW AND WOMEN. IN THIS DAY AND AGE, THIS IS NO TIME TO CONSIDER A POLITICAL PARTY AS AKANTEMBA. THIS ARE MODERN DAYS. HH, IS SIMPLY A DICTATOR WHO SHOULD NOT EVEN BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO RULE ZAMBIA. HE IS A POTENTIAL KABILA IN DR CONGO. HIS PUBLIC MONEY HAUNTS HIM AND HE WANTS TO BECOME PRESIDENT IN ORDER TO SAFE-GUARD HIS DUBIOUS ORIGIN OF HIS MONEY. WELL DONE R KAPITA.

    • This defection is not about eating, its way deeper than that.

UPND needs to free itself from the stranglehold of one lost kachema called Akainde if its to rediscover its relevance and reposition itself for future political engagements.

UPND in its current state is headed for a disasterous showing at the next election for as long as Akainde remains at the helm.

Sata (MHSRIP) was opposition leader for ten years but was growing the PF all the time to what it is today. Sadly, the opposite has been the trend for UPND under the selfish AKainde.

Is UPND short of credible men and women who can take over the leadership or are are all too afraid to mount a challenge, so just watch from the sidelines as the party crumbles, piece by piece?

      Do something

    • Yes! Kapita was a nonentity in UPND.

However, how come you kept him as Vice President even after he lost his seat in 2006.

There is playing Public Relations and simply being Argumentative for nothing.

If Kapita was useless then the whole UPND is REALLY A USELESS PARTY.

How did a a party that boasts about having intelligent people reduce itself to have a Nonentity Vice President for such a prolonged period.

Guys try something else. HH needs to dismantle his clan that surrounds him 24/7.

HH is no near to be an opposition leader, even after being in opposition for more than a decade.

Zambia has started looking at Lungu very seriously. Lungu is smart in a way that he does not respond to insults. This is what HH wants to get from Lungu.

      HH has completely failed to…

    • If he was a non entity why did you put him as veep…you are merely contradicting yourself and exposing your ignorance so you put an empty suit in such a sensitive position…simply wish him the best and thank him for his services and move on that shows political maturity and that is what HH or his party spokesperson should do if he has any maturity.

    • Cont..

Zambia has started looking at Lungu very seriously. Lungu is smart in a way that he does not respond to insults. This is what HH wants to get from Lungu.

HH has completely failed to provoke Lungu.

    • If it proves that Kapita was a nonentity & useless, then it says a lot about the judgement of HH.

It also proves that HH preferes to have people who can hero – worship him and kiss his behind.

Really how can a person of HH that has aspirations to be the President of zambia appoint a useless and nonentity vice president.

      Running a country is a 24/7 and 365/366 days a job.

    • Richard Kapita was a strong pillar of UPND, the fact we should all accept. HH suffered an electoral nightmare on 20th January, 2015 and it is very difficult for him and his leadership to recover.

    • Not only was he an “active member” but also one of the “founding fathers” of UPND. He believed in the ideals on which UPND was founded so much so he kept a low profile despite the r@ping of those ideals by newbies to the party like HH.

HH was a ‘political-nobody’ when people like Richard Kapita, Mazoka and others were toiling to build UPND. So whether you have heard of Richard Kapita or not, he has been one of the MOST LOYAL member of UPND right from the start. And his defection will surely affect UPND. Whether you wish to acknowledge this fact or not is irrelevant. I am sure you will try to tar the man as much as you can, but this one just hurts.

It is time UPND hit the PANIC BUTTON and right what has gone wrong in this once vibrant party—otherwise prepare for impact!

    • How can he be vice president when he goes to reside in a rural area. Everyone knows that this guy had stopped being effective in the party and was let to go except Lungu who wants to make a mountain out of a moore. Its time for those still in PF to start thinking again especially the old founding members. You are holding the space for people still to come from the opposition. Its time you left for other progresive parties and leave corrupt Lungu alone. The opposition should also be aware that Lungu is not interested in anything. Know that Lungu & Wina ARE already campaigning for 2016. You have to start your campaigns SOON TOO and start taking injuctions against the so called POC. Lungu is using Mugabe’s tactics. Dont be scared arrests, when cops can arrest CADRES WHO RIOT.

  1. Akapita wa pita…. I can also spot Kaiser Zulu in the pictures, who is the Presidents special assistants for corruption at state house…

    • This is your problem. What has Kaiser got to do with Kapita leaving HH. UPND has cracked and want to divert attention of real issues. Was Kaiser proved corrupt. No. It was a rumor and perception. The post newspaper aim was EL. So they concocted a hot lie to brand EL a corrupt person as corruption is the only weapon they have left to hold ransom Zambians. It is game over and everyone knows this. Ask why this turn of events. Zambians has known that Mmembe has been a problem and caused alot of anguish to many innocent Zambians and want nothing more of him. Kapita leaving HH is no small thing. It means UPND is in trouble.

  2. According to Sunday Chanda; Kapita ditched UPND due to the president of UPND failed leadership style that include mediocrity etc. Sunday, being a vice president of a party you should both have the money and the brain. The guy did not have money and he has now even lost his brain.

    • @cisi cesu: Has UPND become all about money now? Are you telling me that all current UPND leaders who have not defected have money? Please STOP LYING!

UPND, grow a pair and STOP WORSHIPING MONEY so you can rescue the party from perennial losers like HH. Ain’t a political party supposed to be about more than just money?

The way UPND cadres always bark about money, it is not complicated to see why HH is worshiped. Not because he is a strategic politician, but because he has money—is that right @cisi cesu? And you wonder why people tell you !d!ots that the moment HH leaves the scene, either through another defeat in 2016 or death, UPND will be no more. It seems PF doesn’t care how fat/slim your bank account is, you are free to go—just look at GBM, Masebo, and old Munkombwe.

    • Yamba, dude, let me give you a little insight on why really Kapita became a liability to the party. At one point, he was asked to go mobilise some CBU students to support the party, you know, the usual pay a bunch of students to sing praises, standard political procedure. He was given the loot, he went to Kitwe, got the students, dumped them at some guesthouse, went out and picked up some big-titted woman and proceeded to splash the money on her and himself. And then there was the the married woman scandal where he was caught pants down. Why do you think he was sidelined during the 2015 elections? Did you ever see him kuma campaign? Nope. The idea was to constructively hound him out of the party and the objective has been achieved.

    • So I would not get too excited if I were you coz he has opened up a position for a more worthy person to take up this mantle. Am thinking maybe Felix Mutati?

    • @Yambayamba. We do not worship money but work for it and use it for logistics. Try to reason with my answer to Sunday Chanda. Kapita has weighed the chances of UPND winning in 2016 and concluded that it is 9/10. He was only MP for 5 years (2001-2006). The problem with him now is money want it or not. I have never eaten from HH’s money and will never and it simply means I can never worship money or HH but God. Thanks my friend.

  3. The active vice president of UPND is Dr Bandai were have you ever seen that kapita speak? This is no loss at all the man has no support in N/ Western province he even failed to win a seat as an MP for himself.

    • AND DR BANDA IS ON HIS WAY TO DEFECTION. WHAT ARE U GONNA SAY THEN? THE FIRST STEP TO SOLVING ANY PROBLEM IS ACCEPTING ITS EXISTENCE OR ELSE IT WILL EVENTUALLY BECOME CHRONIC AND U WILL BE CRIPPLED BEYOND REPAIR..

  4. Kapita reminds me of Francis Simenda, UPND Vice President in 2011, who defected to PF after Sata won. Was Simenda a factor? The defection by Kapita is not failed leadership by HH because Kapita knows that UPND has been growing since 2011.

    • @be objective: What do you consider “GROWING” in your world if I may ask?

To me “GROWTH” is what PF did. Sata/PF start with only 1 MP in 2001. They had 44 MPs in 2006 and by 2011 presidential elections, PF had 43 MPs and increase that number by 17 to a total of 60 seats. PF is currently at 70 (after several by elections) and they hold the presidency. To me that’s what GROWTH LOOKS LIKE!

On the other hand, in 2001 UPND had 49 MPs. After Mazoka died and HH took over, UPND was in trouble. By 2006 elections, UPND was already looking for alliances and contested the 2006 elections under the UDA (i.e. UPND, FDD and UNIP.) And UDA got only 27 seats total. Thats a loss of almost half the seats by UPND. Currently UPND has only 32 MPs. So, what figures are U using for your GROWTH chart?

  5. Am non partisan but I often wonder how each time a member defects he becomes a nonentity. Best thing is not to say anything at all

    • He is the latest political prostitute, that’s why he’s a nonentity. Practising belly ideologies instead of political ideologies

  6. Any high profile defections in a party swould worry the party hierarchy. Though this resignation would have carried more weight if he resigned to form a new party or into retirement. Because parties differ on ideologies, change in leadership in PF hasnt change its ideology. People should remember that if the party as a whole see HH leadership as a failure, then kapita should challenged HH, for the presidency. It should worry UPND though.

    • I have more influence to the party than kapita believe me …the guy has been a liability for sure ..that’s y he stole campaign funds. Shame in u mr finished politician.

    • I remember how Upnd members on this site defended Kapita against theft accusations. They claimed it was a plot by the “enemy “to discredit the Upnd. Now your tune suggests the opposite

  7. The PF is a party that went such tabulations during the time of Micheal Sata before finally forming govt in 2011. The PF had 28 ‘Rebel MPs’ including the then secretary general who insulted Micheal sata before cameras on the voting day.

But what came out after elections was a surprise to many people. The party that was scandalized by Chanda Chimba with 28 rebel MPs defeated the corrupt MMD which was led by Nyamasoya.

In the same way, Kapita’s defection is a great blessing to the UPND.

Edgar Muslim Kachasu Lungu will lose the 2016 e;lections to HH and Mr. Kapita will be domed like the rebel MPs of PF.

    Watch the space.

  8. LT has been invaded by ZWD fanatics by the number of negatives against those neutral or for Kapita s defection

  9. People have defected from pf. It confirms Lungu’s visionless style of leadership. You just have intense phobia for HH, no wonder you are not comfortable with his tours. HH is loved by many zambians and is the sherpard in 2016.

  10. UPND is now finished in NWP.HH should resign on moral grounds and concentrate on rearing his animals. The tribal tag which made Sakwiba Sikota leave the party will haunt you forever.
We are waiting for Kakoma,Banda,Mweetwa and many others to follow suit soon or later.

  11. Alternatively,UPND can dissolve and join PF.HH will be made Minister of Agriculture and his MPs will be given positions in he foreign service.

  12. UPND members should have the balls to challenge HH, in all honesty he is a big liability to this Once Great Party.

  13. I wonder what the hype is about this useless Kapita. Is he the only person in North Western? If those people claiming that HH is a liability to UPND, why are all PF senior members having sleepless nights about him. The political life of Lungu is all hinged on HH. The truth is HH is the real man. All the PF Dogs are unleashed on him. Their will be no democracy in Zambia without HH .

    • I would some agree with you if you said “There will be no democracy in Zambia without a vibrant and relevant opposition!”

But, hey, you are UPND—no surprises there! Because in UPND everything revolves around one individual, the one and only “HH the wealthy”! And this is where you guys in UPND are making such a BIG MISTAKE. To you UPND is HH, and HH is UPND—what a myopic way of organizing a political party.

Start thinking about rebuilding the party whereby if HH quits politics or dies today, UPND will be able to survive and thrive. Stop focusing on one egotistical politician. Democracy ain’t about individual politicians. With or without HH, Zambian democracy can only work if built around strong democratic institutions other than DELUDED OPPOSITION POLITICIANS!

    • Looks like Yambayamba has a problem with wealth and HH and will go a the way to insult. HH is the president of UPND as at now and we have to campaign for the Party and Him. So is Lungu for PF, Muliokela for PPP, etc.

  14. The internal competition in all parties will grow, so more fallouts. This is part of the geo-political re-alignment for 2016. The final map will be nothing like 2015 presidential election. Both the PF and UPND have been working to increase their margins in non-traditional territory. MMD ill be wiped off the map. FDD will also grow bigger.

  15. I understand this Kapita thing is a “great” womaniser. Not long ago he was caught read-handed with someone’s wife on a matrimonial bed. We don’t need such leaders with no morals.

  16. Stop tarnishing other people’s names…..you could be a MORE dangerous womanizer yourself than Kapita. For 17 years, you didn’t realize he was a womanizer except now that he has resigned from UP and DOWN ? Just swallow your pride and follow him.

  17. The continued coverage of Sunday Chanda with his warped thinking is a reflection of mediocrity of the Zambian media!

  18. Hahahahaha, how about your Guy Scot’s impending joining of rainbow, you GBM’s contesting under UPND. Guys, some will leave others will come. Such is politics. It’s about how you read the game. Munkombwe was PF and he did not read the game properly this time around. What makes you think Kapita has read the game now. We have all head about how people of Choma are against Cornelius Mweetwa. He has an opportunity to read the game now and what he decides is up to him. Yes, we shall miss Kapita because that’s a vote lost. We shall also gain because some people are on their way to join us. Chill, will PF accept RB to continue controlling them? What about Shamunene and his colleague from Itezhitezhi, what value did they add to PF after joining. Wait and see.

  19. The truth is that Kapital has been trying to eat with both hands for a long time now as he has been PF’s informant under cover.

Since PF gave him more money than what he stole and could steal from his then party, he found it more beneficial to align himself with a party that can feed him. Its mind boggling how PF can take the likes of Richardo and Doral seriously when they are obviously in it to eat. Since anyone with money can easily sway them to his/her side, what makes PF that they wont ditch it tomorrow for greener pastures?

  20. Kapita has personal decision to make and can belong to any party of his choice. It is therefore wrong to assume that UPND as a party has failed leadership. Of course Kapita has made the decision to ditch UPND for various reasons. You know the PF has a plan to weaken opposition and big wigs have been approached. People shouldn’t trust leaders who lack morals like Kapita. He is not a factor anymore.

  21. KAPITA IS GONE, ALL BECAUSE HH CAN’T WIN IN 2016

I am crying right now in Kalomo…HH has fooled us…He is a compulsive political loser with no stamina to stand against strong opponents and yet our people keep believing his story of “winning one day”, which day? You people why are we suffering at the hands of this single man…? Giving away 2016 is so painful. I understand why RK has left us. Please before we become shell or a sham, let us clean our house and float a better candidate. UPND is blessed with senior and seasoned men and women who can get 2016 at once.

I am at pains to see us forever fooled, that a 4 times loser will get 2016. Be careful, we could just be making PF stronger. Mark my words. Uchiyanda, achileke! Ndime BB in Kalomo.
