Janza laments Zambia blunt strikers at Cosafa

Share

Honour Janza has admitted his strikers were not good enough after they misfired at the 2015 Cosafa Cup.

Zambia lost 1-0 to Malawi on Friday in the Cosafa Plate final to finish 6th in their playoff match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, South Africa.

It didn’t help matters that Malawi benefited from a howler by goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene to punish Zambia and scorethe games lone goal.

Malawi were under the cosh for 15 minutes prior to Zico Mkanda’s goal in the 60th minute and later both sides were reduced to ten men in a ten minute period just five minutes after the goal.

“I think the game of football is about scoring if you don’t score you can’t win so I think we allowed it to slip away from our hands because we couldn’t score,” Janza told SuperSport in a post-match interview on Friday.

“The lessons are that we need to score goals. If we want to go forward we have to ensure that we score goals and we should focus.

“In football you make mistakes and the opponent will punish you.We made a mistake and Malawi punished us.”

Meanwhile, Janza’s heads back home pondering on what is to come in the 2016 CHAN qualifiers on June 20 when they travel to Windhoek to face Namibia after none of the home-based strikers scored at Cosafa.

All three goals in Zambia’s only win at the Cosafa Cup in a 3-0 victory over Ghana in a Plate semifinal last Wednesday came from foreign-based players.

Striker Bornwell Mwape of South African club Amazulu, defender Aaron Katebe from Zimbabwe side FC Platinum and TP Mazembe midfielder Nathan Sinkala scored in open play at the Cosafa Cup for Zambia and were either not featured or available for selection against Malawi on Friday.

    • Janza appears to have a very nice & warm personality, but I think he’s not up to the Chipolopolo coaching job. How long did he coach at club level? Why have dropped the bar so low in Zambian soccer? From FAZ President the late Michael Mwape to Kalusha Bwalya & from Godfrey CHITALU, Paulsen, Potterfield again to Kalusha Bwalya, Renard and then Janza. Everything is pointing deep down!!! It’s clear from the failed COSAFA expedition that CHAN will be another embarrassment let alone the AFCON qualifiers…

  1. Meanwhile Galu is in Zurich posting selfies on his FAZ Facebook and wasting our vote by voting for his corrupt grandpa Sepp Blatter.

  2. Janza is a FOOL, he should know that as a coach he is supposed to select suitable strikers , train & give them the right tactics on scoring goals Where would goals come from when the players he used had no coordination upfront?

He should no forget that, it is his responsibility on the functioning of team depending on how he shapes it up. In nutshell, he is a complete FAILURE.

  3. The coach cannot blame strikers because he picked them. A good coach accepts responsibility when a team loses. Replace Janza if we are to compete at any level. With Janza as coach I don’t see us qualifying for the next AFCON finals. If we continue doing the same thing we will continue getting the same result.

  4. Janza you should start getting serious, how do you release the vice captain of a team in the midst of a tournament to go for a wedding and then cry foul after losing, it looks like coaching is not your only problem but planning is also an issue. Mate look for another job. You are not at the level to coach national teams. Your friend did you a favour by giving you the chance to coach. It’s not your fault. Now push hard to get your dyes that you have worked for from faz without compromise, if you have to take them to corrupt fifa just do it. Look for a job that you can handle. No hard feelings just good advice.

  5. Chicken George is the only Zambian coach with a better record, Mr. Janza can not read the game, if yo opposite team is down by a man make quick changes that will create a goal,,, but bena ukumyanga fye imilomo!!! Poor man.
