The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says it is ready for June 30 th , 2015 parliamentary by-election.

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo is confident that the three candidates would scoop the seats in this month’s poll.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Lifwekelo said that his party was certain of winning the three vacant seats this month end.

“We’re confident that our candidates will scoop all the three parliamentary by elections set for this month,” he said.

The opposition party Deputy Spokesperson has however assured that his party would adhere to the electoral code of conduct during the campaign period and beyond.

But PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri said the ruling party would grab the seats from the opposition UPND and the former ruling party, MMD.

Ms. Phiri said this is because of the confidence the people have in the PF leadership style and good policies of government under President Edgar Lungu.

She said the ruling party is confident of scooping all the three parliamentary seats in Mulobezi, Petauke Central and Malambo constituencies largely because the PF Candidates are popular to guarantee victory.

The PF has fielded Dora Siliya for Petauke Central, Patricia Mulasikwanda for Mulobezi and businessman Jack Shuma for Malambo seat.

However , opposition MMD has disclosed that it will not participate in the forthcoming parliamentary by elections for Mulobezi, Petauke Central and Malambo constituencies.

MMD Spokesman Raphael Nakachinda revealed that the decision not to field candidates in the three by elections was arrived at after wider consultations with its leadership.

Mr. Nakachinda said the move was aimed at allowing the former party to concentrate on its ongoing healing process and is currently not in a good state to contest any elections.

In April 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that former Petauke Central MP, Dora Siliya ,former MMD Malambo MP, Maxwell Mwale and former Mulobezi Mp, Hastings Sililo should be allowed to re-contest their parliamentary seats.

The three seats were nullified by the courts for alleged corrupt practices in the 2011 general elections.

  2. Guys,
I worked as a VSO teacher in Mukushi and Mansa during my tour of duty in your beautiful country. You were indoctrinated into being servile to foreign powers. This was the information I garnered from my secondary school students during my 4 years there. Face it…ZAMBIA WILL REMAIN POOR. You will always be exploited by foreign powers (be it South Africa/China/UK/America/Canada/Australia/Nigeria/India)

    • UPND should be realistic. The only constituency that UPND has 90% chance of scooping is Mulobezi. The other two the chances are very slim given the province where they are situated.
