No Lubambo for CHAN qualifier

Lubambo Musonda has dropped out of this Sunday’s 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier away against Namibia.

Lubambo has been withdrawn from the team because he is ineligible to play despite parting company with his Armenian club Ulisses FC in March.

The midfielder has been clubless since then and back in Zambia.

Only domestic league registered players are eligible to play in the CHAN .

“Lubambo is still waiting to be cleared by his former club Ulisses because he is still appearing as a professional player,” Zambia team manager Lusekelo Kamwambi said.

Meanwhile,. illness has knocked out Nkana defender Kapota Kayawe from the trip to Windhoek while Zesco United midfielder Kondwani Mtonga has a knock but is expected to make the trip.

Zambia will leave for Windhoek on Friday ahead of Sunday’s match at Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Chipolopolo will host Namibia in the return leg on July 4 with the winner advance to the final qualifying round to face the winner between Mozambique and Seychelles in the final round in October.

Zambia have failed to qualify for the last two editions of the CHAN tournament since winning bronze at the inaugural championship in 2009 hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
