The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed its commitment towards continuing with the re-entry education policy as opposed to calls for its abolition.

Some sections of society have called for the abolition of then policy alleging that it has promoted immorality and teenage pregnancies among schools girls.

Ministry of Education Spokesperson, Hilary Chipango said government has no plans to abolish the policy as it has recorded more positive results than negatives in promoting girl child education.

He said the ministry will continue with the policy because it has done more good to the girl child.

He explained that many of the girls that fell pregnant returned to school and completed both their Grade 12 and tertiary education.

Mr. Chipango stated that many girls in the country have benefited from the education policy adding that they were currently independent and were contributing to national development after completing their education.

“The ministry is satisfied with the policy as it means well. We have seen more advantages because more schools girls are getting back to school after they have delivered,” he said.

Mr. Chipango said the fighting teenage pregnancies needs concerted efforts from members of the public.

The re-entry education policy allows female pupils that fall pregnant to return to school after giving birth.

Some sections of society are calling for the abolition of the policy alleging that it has promoted immorality and contributed to the increasing number of school dropouts among girls.

  1. Schools should provide day care for the babies so that the young mothers can breast feed in between classes.

    • Excellent idea @Nubian.
But question is if those kaloba stricken PF ministers, who where born in similar way are able to fund for baby sitters’ lunch.

    • @nostradamus. The community will have to pitch for food for baby sitters. It takes a community for something like this to work not government.

  2. The policy needs amendments like sending the girl home immediately she is found pregnant and come back to school when she gives birth. most pregnant girls kept in school dont perform well. observ the effectivness of pregnant women at work

  3. I was one of the people who lobbied for the re-entry policy through FAWEZA.Government should be commended for listening.Indeed the positives outweigh the negatives. The problem is not the policy.
The problem is simply a general lack of ‘stewerdship’ that has led to a general degradation of morals.
Something has seriously gone wrong somewhere and it has nothing to do with the re-entry policy
