Zambia hold Cote d’Ivoire in CAF U23 Cup qualifier

Zambia left Abidjan with a draw on Saturday in their 2015 CAF Under-23 Cup final round, first leg match.

Cote d’Ivoire, who had TP Mazembe striker Roger Assale and PSG winger Méité Yakou amongst their seven foreign call-ups in the team could not find a way past Zambia’s backline before the match ended 0-0.

The two sides will meet in the final leg decider on august 1 in Lusaka.

Winner will qualify for the 2015 tournament to be hosted by Senegal from be held from November 28 to December 12 in Senegal.

The top three finishers at the second edition of the competition will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

    • Yes there is away goal rule. If cote de ivore will draw 1-1 on 1 Aug in Lusaka, they will qualify to the next round via away goal rule. If 1-0 or 2-1 the host will carry the day. Thanks for asking, knowledge is shared to avoid ignorance predominating : )

  1. Why cant the headline read “Cote d’ivoire Hold Zambia”? I guess we went into the match as underdogs as is always the case. Fact is our football is nowhere near the Western African game.

    • No no not that way. The visitors HOLD the host, hence the headline is OK. But I do not understand why you think west africa has the best footballers? Those are our products if you remember our export Alex Chola and Kaumba playing professional football in Cote d’ Ivoire which led to raise of those your players, the likes of Gogba, toures etc..

  2. Wat is required is strategy and hardwork avoid the past experience where nigeria beat us here folowing a draw in nigeria,this time no sily mistake like the boys lost concentration when the oponents equalised, serious can that be an excuse instead its lack of seriousnes
