PF Secretary General Davies Chama has reacted to the appointment of Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba as UPND Vice President by stating that this is part of a scheme by some Bembas to take over UPND.
Mr Chama who said that the PF is not shaken by Mr Mwamba’s appointment said he has been aware of such schemes for some time now.
He said Mr Mwamba is no longer a member of the PF because he was expelled adding that he is only clinging on to the party because of the ongoing court process.
“I don’t want to prejudice what is before our courts but I would like to state that GBM does not belong to the PF anymore because he was expelled,” Mr Chama said.
He added that some Bemba politicians have confided in him that removing Hakainde Hichilema from the UPND is the best solution because they feel Mr Hichilema cannot win the republican presidency.
“I was on a plane from South Africa with Mucheleka (Independent MP Patrick Mucheleka) and he told me that the Bembas who campaigned for HH in the January 20 election have realised that he is a liability and want to kick him out of UPND,” he said.
Mr Chama added, “Mucheleka told me that the Bembas will come together and take over the UPND using GBM’s money and influence in Northern Province because HH is not sellable and looking at what has happened now, it confirms what Mucheleka told me on the plane.”
He said the Bembas hope to use their influence to kick out Tongas from the leadership of the UPND by placing themselves in key leadership positions.
“This is just the beginning, you will see how the Bembas will infiltrate the UPND and take over the leadership and it is laughable that HH doesn’t seem to know what the Bembas are scheming.”
Mr Mwamba who is commonly known as GBM on Wednesday accepted the appointment as UPND Vice President but revealed that he will remain serving as Kasama PF MP.

He could just be taking advantage of having been on board the same flight with Mucheleka & conjures up an imaginary discussion in order to put Mucheleka in bad books with HH. He seems unhappy a prominent Bemba joining UPND. So the gist of his imaginary Bemba schemes is to alienate UPND bemba members so that they are expelled or they resign. Should Mucheleka disown UPND Chama wud hav scored a point cos that wud negate GBM’s appointment.
That’s why most often when things turn sour for my colleagues they even deny that a Bemba has ever ruled Zambia. They start to categorize who is Bemba & who is not. They can easily disown their kinfolks when it suits them. Chiluba is usually classified Ngumbo/Ushi, Sata a Bisa & Kaunda a Malawian.

Actually what Chama is saying makes alot of sense. I would not pass it beyond the grasp of the bembas. They did the same when Mainza Chona created ZANC, a splinter party of ANC. Kaunda and Kapwepwe forced Mainza Chona to surrender ZANC to Kaunda. They later changed ZANC to UNIP. In 1991 Arthur Wina together with Akashambatwa formed MMD and Chiluba kicked them out.
