Government has warned Copperbelt University (CBU) lecturers to return to work or risk their employment contracts terminated.

Chief Governments Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili, who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister, said government will not hesitate to fire any lecturer who will continue blackmailing government.

Mr. Kambwili said government has not found anything wrong with CBU management adding that any lecturer who has a problem with operations at the institution should resign.

“We will not start firing people under duress just because lecturers said we should fire them. We are not going to be blackmailed. We will evoke the whip, such people will be forced out,” said Mr Kambwili.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kambwili has urged Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation (ZNBC) workers who were on a go-slow this morning to return to work.

Mr. Kambwili said ZNBC workers should find a better way of airing their grievances instead of resorting to a boycott.
He further stated that there were many people looking for employment and that government will not hesitate to offer jobs to others if those who have them behave otherwise.

    • The end of PF on the Copperbelt. Please Zambians, let us organise and kill this chi Kambwili a useless chap from the zoo. He injuring alot of people’s feelings.

    • @Lasi, remember that they fired nurses with no regard to the negative consequences that the action caused to the hospitals.

    • Why is it that each time Mr. Kambwili communicates with citizens it is to issue threats. This smacks of his inability to engage and offer guidance to the governed; consequently the citizens should question whether he is suitably qualified for the task.

    • That is the way to go?? It shows lack of capacity to understand the underlying problem and find solutions. It will obviously be unfair to expect a dunderhead like Kambwili to comprehend academic related problems. Bullying tactics can never an answer.

  1. Thanks Chishimba fire them. The want other employees to be fired show them that their are many Zambians who need these jobs. Like the nurses go ahead and go show them the door.

    • What sort of government is this that takes more pleasure in opening shopping malls than in doing what is good for learning institutions? Imagining a whole bunch of grown ups calling themselves cabinet sitting to make a silly decision of using threats to make people resume classes in unfavorable conditions.

Ba kateka ba Lungu is this the best you can do for the Zambian people???

    • Yeah! They want to fire them and employ foreigners who they will pay much more with the still existing stupid arrangement in Zambia where foreigners with same qualifications and sometimes less get remunerated more than locals for the same job! Anyway fire them the repercussions among others will be recruitment of probably mediocre inexperienced staff and providing other countries in the region more personnel for recruitment.

  2. Yes fire the whole lot CBU lecturers and ZNBC workers because they serve and favour in covering the opposition better than PF the sitting government that offered them jobs. Many PF cadres do not have jobs and wil give their jobs to all cadres once fired. Go join the opposition and see if they will employ you arrogant workers.
You MUST all go back to work before you are fired.

    • serious boss you think cadres will educate us the zambians? what do they know? CBU will become a university of armed combats specializing in weapon handling and intimidating peace-loving zambians

  3. Namona kwati ifi bakambwili balelanda is not possible, Ok fire them…fire, fire we see, fire them

  4. The problem with bloggers is they think a cadre is any uncivilized illiterate political sympathizer who blindly supports a political party when the opposite is truth about the term.

    • And bloggers are 100%.
Just look in the mirror bob. What you see, uneducated, uncivilized and brain-washed jerk.

  5. The meaning of the word is different but the behaviour of cadres in Zambia is that of savages. In fact I find it stinking to be called a cadre my friend. 95% of the cadres are just a bunch of stupid fools.

  6. In future CBU should be careful in its recruitment drive for credible academics to advance the best quality of university education. It appears the group behind strikes could have been hired by unproductive politicians who safely send their own children to schools, colleges and universities in South Africa or abroad.

What kind of mindsets are these academics endowed with? What primitive village universities granted them MA’s and MSc’s yet blank at intellectual capacities?

It is shameful that they declared never to participate in the 24th Graduation Programme on 23rd and 24th July. What do they feel when the Graduation was successfully executed to award deserving graduants degrees that they had earned at CBU. What a crop of laughing stock masquarauding as academics.

    • You are so frustrated Ngoma sympathiser, unlike your bogus “professor” Ngoma and Dr. Chama who have zero puplications at their age….Show me one village university that awarded some of the top minds at CBU who are still in their youth (below 35 years) and I will show you Oxford, Manchester, Birmingham, MIT, Stanford, Melborne, Stellenbosch, Queensland Australia and the list goes on…what’s your take on this one… Google out you fake azz professor Ngoma and Frederich Chama…come back here and tell the bloggers what your hits are…!

Or you should just find something else to do at Copperstone if you have none…loser

    • @Mphangwe,

For your information, the academic staff at CBU hold qualifications from good universities. It is wrong for the GRZ to treat such highly qualified staff with disdain. The boorish Kambwili thinks he can replace qualified and experienced academics with raw and at best half-baked cadres from pseudo universities such as Copperstone. It is amazing.

People with money (Politicians included) are free to send their children to universities abroad. Why should their children be the victims of frustrated and demotivated staff at UNZA and CBU?

  7. it’s okay people, i’m sure kambwili can manage to teach everything at the university alone, guys i mean isnt he that smart?

  8. Fire them Monsieur Kambwile.
Let us go back 100 years when a form 1 was a teacher.
This is the beginning of the end of education in Zambia.

  9. Well, at least the waiting for GRZ action is over..! PF has just opened another battlefront… Ba CBUAU the ball is in your court, let’s see how this will play out… Somebody told me that paZed there is never a dull moment.

  10. Teshibe efyo alelandapo uyu mambala. Prof Teloka, Pro Chilwa and others are very very valuable asserts world over. Copperstone kaya!!! Bushe ni calo cha Nyoko?

  11. The demands of the so-called lecturers are absurd and ridiculous.
Some of them report for lectures drunk and some moonlight in consultancies outside the institution and when management puts down measures to curb the indiscipline the management is condemned. Balderdash!
    Fire the lot.

  12. Kabwili has picked a wrong fight with very Educated people his appointing authority should this dull thing to limit damage control. Lungu’s leadership is very questionable because he seems not to have control over these fools who will cost him his job.

  13. Boss, there is enough resource around the country which ably take those jobs with easy. And I am one of them.

    • @ pipo

God help us if uneducated jerk like you (which cannot write one sentence correctly) will become lecturer.

  14. The lecturers joined CBU on an individual basis if they are not happy with the admin of the campus the wise thing to do is resign and move on let those who can work remain, this country has over 60% graduates unemployed. You ve been warned think seriously. Botswana stopped employing zambian teachers sometime back

    • @ Makandanyama

I can see your intellectual limitation…You have said it…Teachers…what else is more….my friend…with a correct education and an appropriate skill, you don’t need to suffer or wait for an election in order to be employed, like Kambwili does, and many the cadres blogging here like you..In my view, atleast according to what I have read on their demands and the information backing their arguments, it is clear to me that those Lecturers at CBU have the skill, the intellect and the love for better Zambia…in education, you do not have to under-train people like what is now happening…this is the same reason why international companies would rather outsource even a machine fitter at KCM, Mopani and Kansanshi…Zambian graduates are poorly trained currently.

  15. WE ASK AGAIN WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT? A LOT OF THESE LECTURERS CAN GET JOBS OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY OR IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. SOME OF THEM ONLY CONTINUE TO TEACH AT CBU BECAUSE OF CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS. FIRE THEM AND WATCH THE BRAIN DRAIN TO COUNTRIES THAT WILL APPRECIATE THIER PROGRESSIONS. ATI FIRE THEM? BRING OUT THE WHIP…? THESE PEOPLE CAN GET JOBS SOMEWHERE ELSE ITS THE STUDENTS WHO WILL SUFFER. THATS WHAT WE GET FOR HAVING A GOVERNMENT THAT HAS NO IDEA WHAT ITS DOING. NOW THE LECTURERS AT OTHER INSTITUTIONS WILL SHOW SOLIDARITY AND JOINTHIS STRIKE. GO AHEAD AND FIRE ALL OF THEM. SOUTH AFRICA MAURITIUS CAPE VERDE, NEW ZEALAND PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND CANADA ARE ALL COUNTRIES READY TO ASSIMILATE PROFESSIONALS. AUSTRALIA AND MOST OF THE COMMON WEALTH WILL TAKE THEM IN TOMORROW.

    • Foolish rants from a lecturer at CBU. Why cant you go to South Africa and behave childishly as you are doing? You think you are the only ones with Master degrees? No guys, there are so many of us who are willing to lecture but cant just find jobs in Government. We are ready to take over as we have been doing part-time lecturing for a long time now. So GRZ, be quick in firing that who will no resume work.

  16. The problem with Zambians is where they think they are paid for papers they have not for work they do. When they go to school you would expect change in quality of work but the opposite is seen. How can an educated stop working who can even project the damage? Zambians pliz change your culture. Those lecturers be disciplined

  17. I agree 100% with Kambwili on this one fire them the want others to go and yet the want to remain. The do not want even to dialogue let them go or better still why not just resign if you are unhappy.

  18. But guys seriously, i am anti PF but we cant have lecturers just waking up and say fire this one. If you have a grievance, you take it to somebody who metes out the punishment. You cant be the jury and the judge at the same time. The people you took your grievance to found no problem with the Proffessor. So why insist on one punishment only of fire the proffessor

    • True these guys are big headed. Kambwili, you have our support, please reduce them to their sizes. Advertise their jobs now and they will get back to lecture in no time. They know what they stand to lose but are just daring GRZ.

  19. I support the government . These lecturers are behaving childishly as if they are not intellectuals . There are so many people who want jobs , fire them .

  20. By insisting on one position of fire the Proffessor,The lecturers are behaving as if its in arabic country were every offence has one punishment- the death sentence

  21. This uneducated cadre thinks he can fire Lecturers in the same way one can fire Bus or Taxi Drivers, get it in your empty large shell of the head that you are talking about Professionals here who cannot be easily replaced. Management at CBU can easily be replaced like you will be easily replaced next year. Your ZNBC unionized employees are also protesting and because of your tyranny type of GRZ could not even report their own protest like the Post does. Are you sure you are normal?

    • man if you are not happy resign and see how many people will apply for that job. Man, Master degree is like a first degree in Zambia. There are so many people with master degrees so dont think you cant be replaced. I am very ready to replace you man.

  22. i think it would have come out better if it came from kaingu or shamenda. at least they choose their words carefully.

  23. what so you expect from a copperstone university graduate? kabwili can not reason he believes in useless threats and ultimatum.
pf dont seem to learn with making deciasions with out thinking. pf is renown for making u turns because of making decision on the spar of the moment.

  24. Got until it’s gone…..these people have a universal mind, they can be in any place on this earth trust me, this is the more reason l chose to be in diaspora cause no lesser mind appreciates the gods, they injected the Baye’s theorem , biases heuristics, godels incompleteness theorem etc in me, and now this is the thanks they get….first country in the world to do that probably coz it’s over developed.

  25. ITS EASY TO CONTRIBUTE ON THESE BLOGS AND BLAME THE LECTURERS FOR THIS IMPASSE WHEN WE ARE NOT THE ONES THAT ARE WORKING IN UNDER THESE STRENUOUS CONDITIONS. THESE LECTURERS ARE ALREADY UNDER PAID. THE ACADEMIC UNION DID NOT JUST AARBITRARILY WAKE UP AND MAKE SUCH SERIOUS DEMANDS WITHOUT REASON AND TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE USING LESS CONTROVERSIAL AVENUES. GOVERNMENT, UNIVERSITY COUNCIL AND MANAGEMENT ARE TO BLAME. IGNORE AND ISSUE TOO LONG AND YOU GET A STALEMATE. NOW THE LECTURERS CAN NOT BACK DOWN. IF THEY DO THEN THEY WILL FOREVER BE SLAVES. RESIGNATION IS BETTER THAN BACKING DOWN. THEY CAN GET JOBS SOMEWHERE ELSE. THEY DONT HAVE TO TAKE THIS NOT FOR THE SALARIES THEY ARE MAKING AND ALLOWANCES THAT ARE ALWAYS LATE IF THEY GET THEM AT ALL. TO THE WORKERS I SAY CALL THIER BLUFF.

  26. Some of these Lecturers teach such courses as communication skills and computer basics and most of them are well beyond retirement age. My point is most of them are very easy to replace and many will not manage to find jobs out there because they either too qualified or too old. It would be wise for them to swallow their pride and revise their demands. Surely should the government continue to pay them when they are not working? I feel for the students who the victims here.
