CAF snubs Bility’s FIFA presidential bid

Share

The Confederation of African Football will not endorse Liberian Musa Bility for the FIFA presidential candidacy.

Bility is one of early names to have officially put his name in the hat to run for the FIFA presidency at next years extra-ordinary congress on February 26 to replace Sepp Blatter.

CAF made its decision on Thursday during the ongoing executive committee meeting in Cairo on August 6.

“In view of the elections for the FIFA presidency scheduled for 26 February 2016, the Executive Committee also received a request from Mr. Musa Bility, president of the Liberian Football Association. The latter had the opportunity to explain the reasons that motivated his decision to run for the future election of the FIFA presidency,” CAF said in a statement.

“After a fraternal exchange, full of sincerity and cordiality, the CAF Executive Committee decided unanimously not to offer the requested support of CAF to Mr. Musa Bility, whilst wishing him luck in the continuation of his endeavour.

“To preserve the interests and unity of African football, it was agreed that Africa will give time to explore all options and decide.”

Meanwhile, CAF has unanimously proposed that its FIFA committee members Hani Abo Rida of Egypt and Constant Omari Selemani of DR Congo lead Africa’s interests on FIFA’s Task Force Reforms group.

  2. Africa should shun backing UEFA cartel’s Platini bid. Africa should back a candidate who’s going to have its interest at heart whether African, Asian or South American. Abash Eurocentric motives!
